I was watching the news last night re Kate McCanns requestioning by the Portuguese Police. I have updated on the events this morning and it appears she will be declared as a SUSPECT today. Im shocked about this, what do you all think? Surely she didnt have anything to do with it?

Unfortunately Doodle as soon as you invite the press and the public into your personal affairs you are opening yourself up to speculation & fabrication - im not saying its right but its a fact of life the same thing which may have helped them find their daughter has now run out of mileage on that story and has decided to turn its attention to the parents.

Everyone has different opinions on this - I may look at someone elses and think "you are a complete F*ckwit" (and I have a few times on this thread) but at the end of the day everyone is free to put forward their opinion and I wouldnt want to live in any country where that was not the case.

This is too much really.
Do some of you ever even read, or does all of your info come from The Sun???
Munchausens by proxy is what you are describing.
It is extremely rare, usually involves feigning an illness, not causing one, and there are only a few documented cases where it has ended in a death.
The Sixth Sense was a FILM

It is very serious and should not be thrown around.

sharklet · 07/09/2007 11:20

Understood Kanga, It just reminded me of Bunglie's situation and how powerless she was in the face of this speculation and what it led to (Prof Roy Meadows has a lot to answer for!)

OneTrickMummy · 07/09/2007 11:21

I don't think a child disappearing is 'inviting' the press in, is it? The press cover events.

The McCanns were advised by American experts that initial intense media coverage can save abducted children, and you are right, it is people's right to speculate, even if it does them no credit at all.

But whether the McCanns had launched a publicity campaign or not, this spotlight and speculation would still be turned on them at this point. It isn't the same as saying celebrities have 'invited' publicity so should be prepared for negative coverage.

JudgeJudyAndExecutioner · 07/09/2007 11:22

I think commenting on anyone's guilt or innocence until they have had a fair trial is pointless.

poor woman. just seen her on the news going into the police station. People were jeering her. There was a massive crowd. How awful

I just have an awful feeling the Portugese police are desperate to frame someone.

RTKangaMummy · 07/09/2007 11:24

Sugarmatches

I DON'T mean that

i mean the attention seeking part afterwards I don't mean they hurt her cos of it

I mean the sort of attention they have been getting themselves into with tours and pope etc.

I am getting myself all confused now cos I can't put into words what I mean or if I do it doesn't come out right

But it si obviously coming accross really wrong on here although in my head I know what I am trying to say

Sorry guys sor not explaining properly

LaCod · 07/09/2007 11:25

areyu lto STILL ON ABUOT THS
d clean your bthrooms fgs

wolveschick · 07/09/2007 11:26

Fur Real-get real. Like a parent in the middle of a missing child enquiry could just happen to go off and hire a boat without anyone a. wondering where they had gone for a long period of time and b. no one later recognising them and reporting it etc. I think you have been reading too many detective works of fiction

LaCod · 07/09/2007 11:26

GO ADN CLEAN

cushioncover · 07/09/2007 11:27

Bloody hell women, get a grip!

I totally agree with pagwatch that nobody should comment on how someone is expected to behave in grief.

BBC news clarified earlier that if there is even a shread of evidence that could suggest that someone may be guilty of a crime then they have to be declared a formal suspect. The family and friends actually asked for themselves to be declared suspects early on so they could answer direct questions.

They must be frustrated out of their minds knowing that the police are no longer looking for their child as a living person.

How convenient for this to happen after the McCanns issue a writ against the newspaper.

Mumsnet has gone absolutely mad over this story! It reminds me of all those crazy people who cried over the death of Diana. Yet the story of a young boy shot whilst coming home from playing football in the park received nominal posts.

sharklet oke oke thanks for understanding my ramblings

TigerFeet · 07/09/2007 11:28

Cod, can you get them to go to my house and clean bathroom?

This thread is ridiculous in the extreme

How can anyone know what happened? How can anyone know what the McCanns should/shouldn't behave like?

Bonkers.

sugarmatches · 07/09/2007 11:29

That is another thing.
Why should they not get an audience with the pope?
They are devout Catholics. His job it to see them and pray for them...they pay his wages (so to speak).
I know I am too emotional about this.
I see a very damaged woman whose life and reputation have been destroyed by people who have only read about it in the papers or seen it on the news. BBC tells you what to believe.
Are you lemmings??
Shame on all of you.

Pitchforks at the ready.

DrNortherner · 07/09/2007 11:32

No one knows what happenned, but people are speculating all over England. In the office, the hairdressers, the coffee shop. It's a high profile case so it's bound to happen.

It's bound to be discussed on a parenting forum. If you don't like it stay off teh thread imo.

elesbells · 07/09/2007 11:32

Jo71 · 07/09/2007 11:32
