I was watching the news last night re Kate McCanns requestioning by the Portuguese Police. I have updated on the events this morning and it appears she will be declared as a SUSPECT today. Im shocked about this, what do you all think? Surely she didnt have anything to do with it?

not you FA.

NKF corrected me yet again. I can only assume she hadn't read the handful of other corrections

flightattendant · 07/09/2007 10:26

oh

Looks like you were 'half-right' anyway!

sazzybee · 07/09/2007 10:26

Completely agree Issy

sweetcherrypie · 07/09/2007 10:27

I have had a funny feeling all along about this. Something just doesn't add up? Innocent until proven guilty and all that and i know everyone deals with grief differntly but i know how i would be if my dd was snatched and her reactions have been a little wooden imo.

Then again you don't know what happens in private so i am on the fence here.

NKF · 07/09/2007 10:27

Sorry.

WideWebWitch · 07/09/2007 10:27

Agree Issy. Absobloodylutely.

NKF · 07/09/2007 10:28

You can't say "innocent until proved guilty but...." and then list doubts. You either really believe in that tenet of law or you don't. And right now, nobody is guilty of a crime regarding Madeleine McCann.

RTKangaMummy · 07/09/2007 10:31

Piffle

I am exactly the same - I said to DH at the time that I feel it is sort of like munchausens {sp} the way they have continued with all the press etc.

I never dared to post on here cos I know people will hate me and I would be attacked

But I don't understand why other people seem so convinced that it CAN'T possibly be the parents?

I don't understand why people on here and on TV or radio etc. have seemed to be believing that the parents in this case MUST be innocent

{we don't have newspapers here so no idea what the various papers view is on this}

"In Siôn Jenkin's final appeal, when it was proved that the blood spots could have been caused from Jenkins' aiding Billie-Jo, the jury were unable to come
to a majority verdict after 39 hours of deliberating and the original sentence was quashed. Siôn Jenkins was found not guilty by the court."

ggglimpopo · 07/09/2007 10:32

"But it is well documented that it is in a vast majority of cases, the parents or another family member who is responsible for the death of a child."

I think you should add here - 'in suspicious circumstances'.

I went completely to pieces when I lost my child and was a jibbering wreck for a long time. I am still not "quite right" but have become very good at behaving normally and fitting in.

It is completely beyond my understanding how a mother (I cannot speak for the father but I think my dh is very similar to me in how he reacted) can lose a child (even if - or perhaps worse - if by her own hand) and then manage to hold it all together for so long, not crack up and say what happened. Unless she had more to lose by doing so and was staying strong for ulterior motives. A guilty parent not wishing to lose other children for example. Or a spouse defending the other and their family.

I suppose the precedents behind this are the two recent French infanticide cases (hidden pregnancies and disposed of babies) and the Smith case and of course, that incredibly bizarre murder of Jo-Benet.

I cannot believe and do not wish to believe that the McCanns did it. It is beyond me.

LittleBella · 07/09/2007 10:32

Jesus Christ when I read threads like this, it makes me think that maybe the jury system is a really crap idea.

Because critical thought is just so lacking.

"Ooh, there's blood in the apartment - they must've done it"

"Ooh there's a dead body. The person who was standing closest to the corpse must have murdered them."

No wonder so many innocent people go to jail with that level of analytical skill so prevalent in the general population.

sweetcherrypie · 07/09/2007 10:33

I wouldn't point my finger at her and say 'you definatly did it' but i do have mild suspicitions that she may have had something to do with it. I think she is innocent until someone can prove my mild suspitions as right.

DrNortherner · 07/09/2007 10:33

Do you really think if an accident occurred two intelligent people would fake an abduction and she would come out of the apartment screaming 'my daughters gone?' No sane person could ever do that imo.

I think she has been abducted, and because it is so rare, and because there is no trace of the abductor the police have nothing to go on so they are barking up the wrong tree. Some people can't believ she would be adbucted, but why not? She was unsupervised in an unlocked apartment, it would be easy to walk in, pick her up and walk out. They didn't hang around, they didn't leave any DNA as there was not struggle.

As for the blood, my ds woke up with blood on his sheets today - he was scratching his exzema in the night.

binkleandflip · 07/09/2007 10:33

This case has been thrust into the media spotlight and the media attention has been meticulously cultivated and continually refreshed over some months now - so it is open to discussion and ultimately dissection.

I see no issue at all in that.

That the media attention is becoming uncomfortable for the McCanns is unpleasant for them, clearly - the pressure was etched of Kate McCanns face as she posed with her lawyer at his insistence following her interview - but the media (and so discussion of the case) cant just be switched off.

Freedom of speech and all that.

RTKangaMummy · 07/09/2007 10:34

sorry just read my post back again

I meant munchausens meaning the attention NOT what they did at the time to maddie

Sorry for not making that clearer

SSSandy2 · 07/09/2007 10:36

where are you kanga that you don't have newspapers?

sweetcherrypie · 07/09/2007 10:36

Then you have to look at why she would have done this? Money? I don't know?

Snowhite · 07/09/2007 10:39

Madeleine's Aunt is now on this morning .

binkleandflip · 07/09/2007 10:39

I have no idea what happened. I take an interest in it unfolding because I have been invited to by the McCanns essentially, by their comandeering of the media for this case (which I understand under the circumstances).

haychee · 07/09/2007 10:39

ggglimpopo

You lost your child? Dont mean to pry or upset you but am curious.

OP posts:
miobombino · 07/09/2007 10:41

Issy's right. None of us is party to the truth, nor party to whatever evidence the police actually have to date.

This is going to go all round the houses again, just like when the poor child first went missing.

A lot of what is being said is either potentially libellous, or on the other hand potentially prejudicial to any trial that might take place. I'm not an expert in the field, but I'd have thought there's a chance at least that if either or both parents are charged, there could be an argument in favour of the UK courts having jurisdiction. Uk subjects, potential offence against a UK subject...

the friend that saw someone carrying maddy up the street- did they not think to run after them and take her back, why did it take so long for them to tell anyone- utter c**p!

BBBee · 07/09/2007 10:42

haychee - that is inappropiate

RTKangaMummy · 07/09/2007 10:43

I have no idea why she would have done it

It could have been an accident like giving her too much calpol {or something else that I can't think the name of} to get her to sleep so they could go out for their meal

I am in ENGLAND but I never believe the papers so we don't have them - they all have their own bias and slant on the news

So I watch the news on TV and radio as they are more unbias imho and it is easier to get a balanced viewpoint imho
