I was watching the news last night re Kate McCanns requestioning by the Portuguese Police. I have updated on the events this morning and it appears she will be declared as a SUSPECT today. Im shocked about this, what do you all think? Surely she didnt have anything to do with it?

SSS - it depends whether the accidental death occured as a consequence of their negligence or abuse.

charged? .

if I'm right in my understanding of portuguese law, arguito status is like when someone is arrested and then released on bale/arrest is made when there is enough evidence to charge, so if she's been charged then there's more than just a speck of blood.

bobbysmum07 · 07/09/2007 23:34

And for what it's worth, I think she looks as hard as nails. Not in the least bit fazed by the jeering outside the police station.

Accidental death of a child does not make her body to disapear!!

kerrykatona · 07/09/2007 23:34

has she been charged then, im just going on chiikens post

SlightlyMadSCAREYthing · 07/09/2007 23:35

I dn't think she has been charged. The media is suggesting she has been told to expect to be charged by her solicitor...but it is all via the media...

wannaBe · 07/09/2007 23:35

maybe accidental death is the portuguese equivalent of manslaughter

dellgirl13 · 07/09/2007 23:36

maybe its the way she 'accidentally died' (speculation) they may have panicked and thought they would be arrested for murder. people cover up things for all sorts of reasons. if any of you have read any of torey haydens books you will not be shocked at anything

At first when this all came about I felt sympathy as a new mum and willed Maddie to come home. But now its been so long and the police are looking closer to home at the parents it is making me think twice i'd like to think that no parent would do anything to hurt there child but from what I have seen on the tv makes me feel wary, and I dont know who it is more to mother or father Please let Maddie be safe no matter what x

chikenmother · 07/09/2007 23:37

"Arguido" means she must defend herself of the suspitions araised. It means there are strong suspitions about her but not enough certains to arrest her.

wannaBe · 07/09/2007 23:38

slightlymad I think that chikenmother is in portugal, so news comes through there quicker?

dellgirl13 · 07/09/2007 23:38

bobby-yes thats what i mean if it made them look like bad parents they would want to cover it up

bobbysmum07 · 07/09/2007 23:39

Look, when the police try to get suspects to confess, they use all sorts of different tactics. The most obvious is the "gently gently" approach. They put it to the suspect that the person may have been killed accidentally as a way of getting them to confess. Doesn't mean they really think the person was killed accidentally.

Perhaps she died as a result of an accidental sedative overdose? or reaction to a sedative? (could forensic testing on the blood have highlighted this?)

This would no doubt mean the end for either or both of their careers/livelihood etc... so they felt they had to cover it up?

chattychantelle · 07/09/2007 23:41

trying to make a deal with kate if she confesses? Has anyone heard?

dellgirl13 · 07/09/2007 23:41

tmb-ditto you read my mind

wannaBe · 07/09/2007 23:43

joanne lees was bloody odd. obviously she wasn't a murderer but that doesn't change the fact she was odd. which just shows that if you're that kind of person, then people will make assumptions..

bobbysmum07 · 07/09/2007 23:43

Honestly? She just looked pissed off to me walking in and out of that police station today. I didn't see any grief on her face at all.

chikenmother · 07/09/2007 23:43

There are no dealing in Portuguese law, PJ just denied it. I just can´t believe this parents did it, call me nuts or naive, just can´t. It is too hard to me.

wannaBe · 07/09/2007 23:46

I find it very hard to believe that the pj would have offered a deal, given how involved the media have been, it would almost certainly get back to them.

but of course, if Kate Mccann could have lied about her child's death, then she could lie about anything, no?

kerrykatona · 07/09/2007 23:46

i cant see how they would have the chance/time to do it if other people were also checking on the children during the night, if they did just come across the body i dont think anyone would have time to come up with a plan to get rid of a body etc.

even if it did happen before they went out for the night no way could any parent act as if everything was normal

wannaBe · 07/09/2007 23:47

chiken so has she actually been charged? cause they're not saying that here yet
