this story reminds me of a film i watched last year. the mother claimed her child had been abducted. it turned out that the child had overdosed on cough mixture and she and her partner had buried the body in the woods. very similar!! has any one seen it

Confirmado ADN de Maddie

Decisive results
DNA of Maddie confirmed

Fluídos biológicos de Maddie foram encontrados pelo laboratório de Birminghan nas amostras enviadas pe-la Polícia Judiciária para Inglaterra.

Biological fluids of Maddie were found by the Birmingham lab in the samples sent by the PJ to England

The newspaper CM knows that these traces ? residues of blood not visible to the naked eye which were found in the Ocean Club and the rented car of the McCanns ? already in the possession of the PJ should determine immediate developments of the case. Most important of all will be a new interrogation of Madeleines parents and some friends of the couple who were on holiday in the Algarve when the child disappeared.

These developments based on the results of the biological samples were also highlighted in various English newspapers who indicate there will be arrests in the next 48 hours. The most important samples, of the dozens sent to England, are the ones collected in the apartment of the McCanns at the Praia da Luz, especially samples from the floor and the cupboard in the house where the family lived afterwards and in the car which they rented after the child disappeared. These samples were collected after the specially trained dogs from England signalled biological traces of blood and the odor of a cadaver on the clothes of Kate McCann.

dellgirl, I saw that film. I found it very upsetting

HorribleHorace · 07/09/2007 19:32

does anyone know which kind of sedatives the children were given? Proper full on prescribed ones? Just curious.

dellgirl13 · 07/09/2007 19:32

the police would know if the blood in the boot was from a dead body or a live body. there fore if it was stale it must have come from her after she died.

TraceyTwo · 07/09/2007 19:33

Were the children given sedatives? I haven't heard about that.

LeilaAndLeo · 07/09/2007 19:33

Did you notice some of the crowd booing when Kate was making her way into court? The Journalist said that the people booing were Portugese not British. The Brits were supporting her etc.

I think the Portugese find it very difficult to understand how anyone could possibly stay so calm in a situation like this case - the Mccans have always remained so calm. I know I personally wouldn't be able to remain calm at all, however I appreciate they are Doctors and trained to remain calm in stressful situations but when it comes to your own child would you be able to? This I think the Portugese find hard to believe.

TraceyTwo · 07/09/2007 19:34

Maybe they are numb.

debgronow · 07/09/2007 19:35

There is a lot which has not been fully reported in the british press. Apparently a syringe and sedatives were found.

NadineBaggott · 07/09/2007 19:36

really, where did you get that from?

HorribleHorace · 07/09/2007 19:36

I can't remember the name of it but isn't there something available over her over the counter for children which could be called a sedative? begins with a p, I think

NAB3 · 07/09/2007 19:36

Phenagan

noddyholder · 07/09/2007 19:37

why would they frame them rather than just admit they have no clue what happened. All the in depth evidence from the cadaver dogs and the labs has come from the uk forces.

HorribleHorace · 07/09/2007 19:37

that's the one, thanks. I'm just wondering if it was something like that they had, which many parents do give children over here, I think (i don't but know others who have)

dellgirl13 · 07/09/2007 19:37

sorry i have been told different by my dh although i am pretty certain they can tell any experts on the subject?

TraceyTwo · 07/09/2007 19:37

yeah, but why would they hide a body but not evidence like a syringe? None of it makes sense and it's not worth trying to make up your mind from bits in the newspapers that we don't know if they are true or not.

wheresthehamster · 07/09/2007 19:37

What made them look for DNA in a car hired a few weeks after the disappearance?

kerrykatona · 07/09/2007 19:38

but is it really classed as a sedative if you can get it over the counter.

i give my pair medised to knock them out when they are ill and i dont see anything wrong with that

debgronow · 07/09/2007 19:38

I visit www.mirror.co.uk forums and a large number of ex pats and portugese people post extracts and translations from the newspapers

RTKangaMummy · 07/09/2007 19:38

What is the name of the drug used to sedate children on long plane flights

That you can get from GP for children

NadineBaggott · 07/09/2007 19:38

not only is it not worth trying to make up your mind from bits in the newspapers it's not worth just making it up!

kentgirl73 · 07/09/2007 19:39

Quite right traceytwo

sazzybee · 07/09/2007 19:39

Roll up, roll up, trial by MN. All lurid postings and wild speculation welcome!

HorribleHorace · 07/09/2007 19:39

i do find it very alarming if it was acurate that the children were being given full on sedatives

TraceyTwo · 07/09/2007 19:40

Phenagen isn't given in a syringe anyway. And lots of people use phenagen, it's for hay fever.
