I was watching the news last night re Kate McCanns requestioning by the Portuguese Police. I have updated on the events this morning and it appears she will be declared as a SUSPECT today. Im shocked about this, what do you all think? Surely she didnt have anything to do with it?

How about a year long membership to Historic Trust, or membership to an art gallery or that?

I'm getting DH a tranger for his Xmas in Lidl next week. He saw it in the sale photos and wanted one.

mytwopenceworth · 07/09/2007 14:41

disagee with cod, myself. Don't consider discussing an event like this makes me a vulture.

expatinscotland · 07/09/2007 14:41

And stop using bleach, cod. It's really bad for you.

MrsMarvel · 07/09/2007 14:41

Yes a child is dead. So have some respect for people who are concerned and find somewhere else to talk about christmas presents.

Past Times are still trading marthamoo - there's one in the town where I live

My Mum loves it

orangehead · 07/09/2007 14:42

if there is evidence pointing to that the person is dead you can be charged with murder/accidental death even without a body

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 14:42

I thought when they said partial DNA results, that was weeks ago when they had only received results to parts of the tests (the rest of the results were back this week).

lilibet · 07/09/2007 14:42

What's a tranger?

expatinscotland · 07/09/2007 14:42

How do you know the child is dead?

FFS!

It's all speculation just now.

She hasn't been formally charged. NO ONE HAS. And even they had, that does not mean they are guilty.

mytwopenceworth · 07/09/2007 14:43

Not that I've posted on one of these before, but this is a significant turn and discussing it does not make someone a sad middle aged vulture!

LaCerbiatta · 07/09/2007 14:43

Horsey: my calculations were to make it comparable and illustrate that a lot more children, proportionately, go mising in the UK than in Portugal. But if you want the percentages:

150000 out of 60 million is 0.25%

500 out of 10 million is 0.005%

50 fold difference, as the figures in my previous post showed.

donnie · 07/09/2007 14:43

like I said, carrion.

expatinscotland · 07/09/2007 14:44

Whatever.

Issy is right.

This is libellous in some places.

I have asked MNHQ to pull it and others, especially as the McCann's are currently suing a Portuguese paper for libel.

orangehead · 07/09/2007 14:44

mrsmarvel, i agree

marthamoo · 07/09/2007 14:44

They don't send me a catalogue anymore Thanks TigerFeet.

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 14:45

In MY original post I said I agreed with you re the fact child crime is rarer there, but that saying 150000 is a lot compared with 500 is a misinterpretation as the population of the UK is 6 times greater.

HorseyWoman · 07/09/2007 14:46

At the end of the day, they are both 0.something, but that's of the whole population. I wonder what it would be of the whole child population. I know ours is 10% of the child population, but I can't find the child population of Portugal anywhere.

whiskeyandbeer · 07/09/2007 14:47

"I don't understand how anyone can be charged with any sort of murder/accidental death without a body. "

not sure about in portugal but under irish law (and i'm assuming english as much of our common law is shared) you don't need a body to bring a charge of murder.

dellgirl13 · 07/09/2007 14:47

just been told not in a pet.

TigerFeet · 07/09/2007 14:47

here y'go moo

Neverenoughhandbags · 07/09/2007 14:50

I haven't seen anywhere report that the full DNA results are back, nor that there is definite evidence that Madeleine is dead.Confirmation of her blood in the apartment does not prove death. Just that she was there and that she bled.
Confirmation of her blood in the car does not prove death-although obviously would take some explaining by her parents. Did anyone else have access to the car?
A mother and daughter have identical mitochondrial DNA . See this link if interested.

LaCerbiatta · 07/09/2007 14:50

Well Horsey, 0.25 is very different than 0.005! Assuming that the number of children is comparable in both countries (can't see it being that different) we can say that the number of chidren going missing in the UK is 50 fold greater.

Enough of this maths now!

lornaloo · 07/09/2007 14:51

She's been released now. Not a suspect just a whitness!

krang · 07/09/2007 14:52

Innocent till proven guilty is a pretty good basis to build a justice system on. I shall continue to support that basis, therefore there is no more to say about this case then there was yesterday, or the day before that, or the day before that...
