Saw this coming for a while!

Stupid move if you ask me! The press didn't leave Diana alone when she took a step back, they hounded her even more. It's history repeating itself.

SouthWestmom · 08/01/2020 19:04

Hasn't Harry always wanted some freedom from the constraints of his family and obligations? Meghan is just the right person to do it with rather than someone leading him astray, surely.

I really hope it works out well for them and I have nothing but good wishes for them all. (Not a royalist, pro republic, pro people though)

Strawberrycreamsundae · 08/01/2020 19:05

That firmly dumps all the Royal workload on William and Catherine doesn't it? Hardly fair or right in my opinion. It's looks like he's shirking his responsibilities to HMQ and the Royal family and buggering off to do his own thing.
And I bet the taxpayers end up funding the pair of them.

Iloveacurry · 08/01/2020 19:07

Perhaps they should of decided this before they spent £2 million of tax payers money on renovating Frogsmore Cottage ... ‘financially independent’ oh please.

IpanemaGallina · 08/01/2020 19:07

I feel so sorry for them that they need to leave the country. The criticism Meghan has faced has been awful, unjustified and constant.

workffs · 08/01/2020 19:08

I think it's really sad, Harry and William seemed so close before he got married, was looking forward to seeing the families grow together. Guess that won't happen now!

pantsville · 08/01/2020 19:08

Honestly I don’t fully understand the announcement. What’s the difference between a senior royal and a non senior royal? Are they essentially saying they will no longer be performing any royal duties but will take a pay cut in exchange?

ShirleyPhallus · 08/01/2020 19:08

@MustardScreams what did that poster say was wrong?! She was quoting Piers Morgan....

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2020 19:09

Am I the only one who is secretly hoping suits comes back with her (and Mike) in it?
In reality I wish them well and hope any rifts can be repaired.

shrill · 08/01/2020 19:10

RF could have done lots to support them publicly but chose not to. If they had they would have shared some of the media hounds too and that would never do!

Trewser · 08/01/2020 19:10

This isn’t anything to celebrate. The British public and media have been absolute cunts. I’m glad they have their privacy and lives back. And they should never, ever have had to endure the disgusting media and comments people made

I agree 100%

StealthPolarBear · 08/01/2020 19:10

Yes it would be lovely for the cousins to be close. Hopefully that can happen behind the scenes.

Engard · 08/01/2020 19:10

Gonna miss them but totally understand their reasons! They've been driven to this. Good luck to them ❤️

Theworldisfullofgs · 08/01/2020 19:11

The royal family will need to shrink and its Charle's intention.
There's quite a big movement to abolish the monarchy together.

yellowallpaper · 08/01/2020 19:11

Can only wish them peace and happiness. Harry's mother wanted and more normal life, so maybe he feels the same. Good on them.

Peterspotter · 08/01/2020 19:11

Tbh I think it suits Harry perfectly. Why should Megan be broken down to do what every other woman who joined the royal family did?

She was famous before she even met him. Yeah she works the camera but don’t all actresses? Would people prefer he married an English rose or some one docile to nod smile and get in line?

I knew they eventually leave as Kate will always trump her, Megan probably prefers to be queen of her own castle and who blames her!

Engard · 08/01/2020 19:12

@MustardScreams 🙌🏻 yep! Who can blame them for wanting to leave 🤷🏻‍♀️

AndWhat · 08/01/2020 19:14

I don’t understand all the fuss Harry is currently 6th in line to the throne, has at best been 3rd in line.
Prince Edward (3rd) and Princess Anne (4th at one time) have never had this much press or media unrest at not being seen every week.
Harry was always going to be relegated to minor royal status no matter whom he married surely. He is highly unlikely to ever become King anyway.

TwentyViginti · 08/01/2020 19:17

I wonder if Kate's feeling a little envious of Meghan's relative freedom.

noodlenosefraggle · 08/01/2020 19:19

This isn’t anything to celebrate. The British public and media have been absolute cunts.
This.

TheMemoryLingers · 08/01/2020 19:20

Let's hope this is a first step towards abolishing the monarchy entirely.

TwentyViginti · 08/01/2020 19:20

#Megxit on Twitter Grin

TwentyViginti · 08/01/2020 19:22

January is quite the month. WW3 fears, Megxit, Brexit, what's next? The month is still new!

Selfsettling3 · 08/01/2020 19:22

Good for them.

I’m no royalist but I feel particularly for Megan, new job, new country, new Mum and short maternity leave before you add in the issue with her family and then the horrid women hating media. She has had a tough couple of years.

Charles wants to slim down the monarchy so this is a good president to set for other to follow. I don’t think a large royal family will be tolerated in the future.

Womenwotlunch · 08/01/2020 19:23

I predicted months ago that they would do this I think it’s quite sad tbh
However, I don’t blame them . I think that if their marriage would have destroyed if remained in Britain
The irony is that they made the Royal Family a bit more interesting
