Maddy seen in Holland?

Have not really been commenting on the Maddy stories very much on here, but I thought you guys might be interested to know that the Dutch press is carrying an article today saying that she has allegedly been seen in a cafe in the south of the Netherlands with a DUtch guy and an English speaking woman.

You'll have to excuse me as I'm translating from the DUtch here, but it appears the police were called and they took away the glass and straw she had been drinking from to do a dna test on, and that the people in the cafe got part of the number plate of the car she was driven away in, as well as a decent description of the people she was with.

I hope, hope, hope and pray that this is a real lead and that she is alive and well and that she can be tracked down....

I don't see that Madeleine's blood being found in the McCann's apartment automatically proves that she is dead. Traces of my blood, that I have forgotten to clean up, might be found somewhere in my house, but that does not provide a justification for my family phoning the undertaker and writing my obituary. I will believe that Madeleine is dead when her body is found. Until that sad event occurs, I prefer to remain positive.

kookaburra · 06/08/2007 18:25

Wow- they sound very definite, don't they? I wonder why they didn't use the technolgy the day after, rather than several months later ???? And just from bood stains, how could they know it was an accident rather than murder??? Weirder & weirder

kookaburra · 06/08/2007 18:27

Also, quiet plausible that Madeleine , say cut her foot on the beach & bled in the house? Presumable the McCann's could clear that question up straight away?

lucykate · 06/08/2007 18:46

there would be traces of dh's blood all over our kitchen floor from when he cut his head open on the cooker hood a couple of weeks ago, it shocked me how much blood there was. but i can assure you he is alive and well, and doing the washing up!.

salsmum · 07/08/2007 00:55

The DNA testing is going to take a week???? my god wouldnt you think they could have rushed it through quicker? when every second counts a week must seem like forever for the Mcanns.
Anyone who had half a brain cell if they had maddie and were taking her out in public would;

  1. dye her hair black.
  2. dress her like a boy.
  3. cut her hair to a crop. If you'de take her out in public you're not going to take her out without a heavy disguise. The kidnappers are not foolish idiots who would be able to afford to get complacant with half the entire universe trying to 'find' this little girl and unfortunatly as time goes on the chances of finding her lessen, 4 year olds change so much as most mums will know. I even thought the little girl who was in the finals of 'Britains got Talent' show looked like Maddie. Sad as it is i think too much time has passed, although i hope with all my heart that she will be found.

There is a suggestion last night that the "blood evidence" was found during the early invetsigation in May and has already been eliminated. It may not even have been hers

wannaBe · 07/08/2007 08:19

apparently the DNA result is due back today.

But i still don't understand why the woman didn't confront the people if she was so sure it was Madeleine. It was a public place, yes of course there are risks but if these people were violent anyway Madeleine is already at risk. And by confronting them she could be more sure that they wouldn't leave, as opposed to calling the police, waiting for them to arrive, these things take time, and people finish their meals and go on their way..

forsale · 07/08/2007 10:57

are there now 2 trains of thought - one that says she could have been seen in Belgium/Holland and dna is being taken from straw/bottle and the second is that the police say she was murdered in teh apartment on the night she went missing?

im really losing track here

expatinscotland · 07/08/2007 10:59

Sals, harvesting DNA from a very small sample can be VERY tricky and sometimes doesn't work. Often this process can involve culturing in a lab and this takes time. There's no way to speed it up.

LIZS · 07/08/2007 11:04

and the Swiss paedophile who apparetly committed suiicde afetr the disappearance of a child looking very similar and was on the Algarve at the time ... There is little point speculating on all this "evidence" sightings and theories really. Fact is only Portuguese police know what lines of enquiry they are actively pursuing.

wannaBe · 07/08/2007 11:07

this from reuters

Thing is, if they've "known" this for a month now, then why would the parents at least not have been told? Obviously due to the secrecy laws etc there's no need for the media to have been told, but the parents have been campaigning, with trips planned to the US/spain etc, surely it would have been fairer to at least have told them the police don't believe she's alive? or even that she was abducted?

And investigating the friends.. how as a family do you ever come to terms with the fact that someone you trusted could have been involved?

binklehasflipped · 07/08/2007 11:12

everyone's a suspect I guess until the guilty party is confirmed. Perhaps the police have been observing the actions of those close to Madeleine in the light of this new evidence and that is why they havent told the parents (if thats the case)

wannaBe · 08/08/2007 10:24

according to five live/news 24, the DNA results are back and the child seen in Belgium was not Madeleine.

expatinscotland · 08/08/2007 10:24

I've got a sad feeling this wee girl is no longer living in this world .

wheelsonthebus · 08/08/2007 10:46

sky says the dna belongs to a man, and that the girl did not drink from the bottle, but that despite blanket tv coverage of incident in belgium/germany etc, no family has come forward to rule themselves out,and the car cannot be traced so probably had false number plates

TinyGang · 08/08/2007 11:04

Does anyone else find it odd that the apartment has been used by holiday makers since all this happened? I'm sure I read this somewhere.

I know the holiday company would use it again at some point, but who on earth would want to stay in that particular one with things still as they are.

Especially strange as the police as it turns out are still checking it over for any evidence.

wannaBe · 08/08/2007 11:17

I actually think the media should stop reporting on this now. I don?t think that all the reporting achieves anything other than to increase the speculation as to what may/may not have happened. And I think they should stop interviewing the parents/friends considering as there are some sources that are claiming that the family/friends are potential suspects.

Just let the investigation run and when a conclusion has been reached then tell the world about it.

Why did they only test one glass from the table? When they left, why did they not test all the glasses?

AttilaTheMum · 08/08/2007 11:45

DNA didn't match

binklehasflipped · 08/08/2007 13:16

I do wish that these people who are "100% certain they have seen Madeleine (and then do nothing whatsoever to intervene anyway ) would stop intiating these witch hunts - must be torture for the family. Am also very suprised the apartment being rented out - surely it is still a crime scene?

LIZS · 08/08/2007 15:34

Unless a particular witness had met and knew Madeleine personally they could never be 100% sure.

grumpymoaner · 08/08/2007 15:48

I hope this doesnt cause a riot but i feel that im entitled to my opinion. I feel that maddie may be laying with the angels now as if someone wanted to kidnapp her for a childless couple or something its got to national now so it would be too risky for anyone to walk around with her. But I truly hope im proved wrong i really do!

nappyaddict · 11/08/2007 12:08

there was that girl who was loked up for 8 years though wasn't there.
