Maddy seen in Holland?

hecciesmum · 02/08/2007 12:54

Have not really been commenting on the Maddy stories very much on here, but I thought you guys might be interested to know that the Dutch press is carrying an article today saying that she has allegedly been seen in a cafe in the south of the Netherlands with a DUtch guy and an English speaking woman.

You'll have to excuse me as I'm translating from the DUtch here, but it appears the police were called and they took away the glass and straw she had been drinking from to do a dna test on, and that the people in the cafe got part of the number plate of the car she was driven away in, as well as a decent description of the people she was with.

I hope, hope, hope and pray that this is a real lead and that she is alive and well and that she can be tracked down....

Tbh I think that the woman?s occupation is highlighted more by the media because it makes the story seem more credible iykwim. A ?child psychologist? saying a child was acting strangely sounds far more credible, and gives much more hope than a ?unemployed former circus performer? for example.

Similarly the Mccanns? occupations are constantly highlighted to reiterate to the public that they are upstanding/intelligent/well educated members of society. ?doctors Gerry and Kate? commands far more respect among readers than ?unemployed teen parents? would.

news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6929467.stm

is the BBC report. Interestingly, I still can't find it on the main Beglian news website VRT, which is the equivalent of the BBC

wannaBe · 03/08/2007 12:20

it was on gmtv this morning, and bbc news aren't really reporting anything about this at all any more anyway.

wannaBe · 03/08/2007 12:21

ah x post

belgo · 03/08/2007 12:23

but I have found this
here

which basically says that there have been quite a few sightings of Madeleine in Belgium, half of which are impossible to check out

expatinscotland · 03/08/2007 12:25

There are a lot of white little girls who look like Madeleine.

belgo · 03/08/2007 12:25

exactly expat. Especially in Holland/Belgium.

flumpybumpy · 03/08/2007 12:28

The thing i always think though is, if this was Madeleine and if they get dna and prove it, she'll now be long gone or hidden again due to this story already being public surely.

belgo · 03/08/2007 12:35

I wonder what a children's therapist is exactly? Is it an educational profession or a health profession? I've never come across it in the Belgium healthcare system.(but then I didn't work with children)

wannaBe · 03/08/2007 12:37

would a children's therapist be like a counsellor or psychologist?

LIZS · 03/08/2007 12:41

probably meaning lost in translation - could be anything tbh!

belgo · 03/08/2007 12:42

kindertherapeut= literally child therapist, which doesn't really tell us anything

wannaBe · 03/08/2007 13:14

but if this woman waw "100% sure that it was madeleine", why didn't she just walk over there and confront the couple and talk to the little girl? Surely if she was that sure, there would be no chance she would make an idiot of herself, and making a public scene would have resulted in the police being called and attending quicker anyway. Walking away to ring the police would surely runn the risk that the people would leave the restaurant and that you wouldn't be there to witness it.

KitsAndBits · 03/08/2007 13:17

b ecuaew if they have kidnapped a little girl then their obviously nutters and if she went over there and confronted her they couldve done anything.

stabbed her, stabbed maddy.

its best to get the police.

am not convinced it is her though, i thinks shes 'gone'

tiredemma · 03/08/2007 13:19

The sky news report also says that someone reported seeing a child looking like Maddie near a cathedral in Belgium.

Im so not convinced by these reports, I really do doubt that someone holding her would take her sightseeing and for a drink in a coffee shop.

Its good that people report these things, but im afraid its pointless as I genuinely believe that she would be kept hidden away somewhere

wannaBe · 03/08/2007 13:32

tiredemma I agree. And tbh I think that people have been so blinded by all this publicity that if people want to see Madeleine, then they will, iykwim. And I do think that there are people who are the type to look for her, if that makes sense, and it wouldn't be hard to see a child matching her description and convince yourself that it was her.

Tbh I think it's highly unlikely she's even still alive, unlikely she was even still alive the day after she disappeared.

kookaburra · 03/08/2007 14:54

There was a poster of her in the back window of a car in front of me today at traffic lights as I was struck by just how much 3 year old girls look alike, and how it could have been any of a number of little blond girls, and without being close enough to identify the eye idiosyncracy, it would be impossible to give a definite identification if she was seen in a cafe etc.

flumpybumpy · 03/08/2007 15:08

I was told in Sainsburys how much my DD looked like Madeleine (although my DD has brown hair).

You can have a look for yourselves on my profile.

A lot of 4yr old girls do look look similar the eye thing is what sets Madeleine apart but unless you were very close to her you wouldn't see it.
