Maddy seen in Holland?

Have not really been commenting on the Maddy stories very much on here, but I thought you guys might be interested to know that the Dutch press is carrying an article today saying that she has allegedly been seen in a cafe in the south of the Netherlands with a DUtch guy and an English speaking woman.

You'll have to excuse me as I'm translating from the DUtch here, but it appears the police were called and they took away the glass and straw she had been drinking from to do a dna test on, and that the people in the cafe got part of the number plate of the car she was driven away in, as well as a decent description of the people she was with.

I hope, hope, hope and pray that this is a real lead and that she is alive and well and that she can be tracked down....

You deserve everything you get. In a good way.

Aaanyway..do you look like Maddilyne as much as I do?

Desiderata · 03/08/2007 17:02

Well, no. That portrait looks like a bloke with tits. I look like a gal with tits!

jimmyjamas · 03/08/2007 19:12

what do you think about this new lead on the madeleine case? I think it is just another false lead.

I was shocked this made news headline on BBC, so fingers crossed for some good news.

That child psychologist/therapist could have just been interested in the money she will make through all the press don't you think?

I know this sound awful but I think Madeleine isn't alive, and probably hasn't been for a very long time. I hope I am wrong.

Pan · 03/08/2007 19:16

yes, there are way too many vested interests in more 'sightings', and if there is a slow news day, stuff like this gets bumped up.

For us 'consumers' of media output, I don't think there is any use giving any stories credibility until she actually surfaces at some time. The rest is just speculation.

wannaBe · 03/08/2007 21:13

a bbc correspondent was saying on 5 live this afternoon that police have said they've had over 300 reported sightings in belgium alone since Madeleine disappeared, and that this one isn't necessarily any more signifficant ahan any others but that they have to investigate all. He did say that this "witness" is deemed to be credible because she is known to the police and has worked with them and appeared as an expert witness in trials etc.

I was being silly. Silly old saucepan!

sauce · 04/08/2007 09:49

Yet sillySaucePan aside, dh mentioned this "sighting" of Madeleine & I can't help but get my hopes up. any more news?

Pan · 04/08/2007 10:04

Hello.

wh does DNA testing take such a long time?? It's miraculous and a wonderful thing, but it takes ages...

Reallytired · 04/08/2007 11:21

I hope its true. It would be lovely if Madeline and her parents could be reunited.

However I fear its just a cruel false lead.

I hope that they catch whoever took Madeline so that this person cannot wreck another family.

paulaplumpbottom · 04/08/2007 16:48

Can't this be speeded up a bit?

lyrasdaemon · 05/08/2007 15:14

An article in today's Sunday Post says that a retired woman in France claims to have seen Madeleine in Dijon on 13 May with a couple fitting the description of the two that were spotted in Belgium. When the woman spoke to the child in French, the only response she got was "mummy, mummy". The woman that the child was with then said to the child "I am your mummy." The sighting was reported, but it was not followed up. Could this have been an early sighting which slipped through the fingers of the authorities?

TwoIfBySea · 06/08/2007 00:04

You would reckon if your child was missing and there was a sighting somewhere, would you not head there immediately. (Once it was established rather than rumour?)

MummyPenguin · 06/08/2007 09:42

I didn't pay too much attention to the 'Madeleine seen in Holland' headlines, as what sprung to my mind was the '6 sightings in Malta' thing. I have read some of the recent posts here, and agree, there are lots of little girls who look quite like her. I've seen a couple myself, I found myself getting quite worried soon after her dissapearance as I was in one of my local parks with DC and saw a little girl who was really like her, or should I say really like one of the pictures of her, that's the other thing, in the pictures of Madeleine that have now become so familiar, she actually looks quite different. For example, the close up 'look into my eyes' one is really different to the one where her hair is longer, blonder and she's wearing a blue football top. Those two pictures are again different to the one where she's on the tennis court. So taking all the publicly released pictures into account, anyone could be forgiven for thinking they've 'seen Madeleine.' Unless you got right up close to a child you thought may be her, and saw the 'black flash' in her eye... well, what's the chances of that? Sadly, it's all terribly needle in a haystack. Like everyone else on here, I hope that the Holland sighting was her, which would mean she's alive, but if so, where is she now? The hunt goes on.

LIZS · 06/08/2007 10:06

It is interetsign that this "family" hasn;t come forward to be eliminated from the enquiry as that would seem the more logical thing to do since the details are so specific. However the whole sightings thing is taking on echoes of Lord Lucan, with lots of dead ends and speculation. Chances are she is/was much closer to where she disappeared

wannaBe · 06/08/2007 10:31

would you? with the Brittish media ready to "print" your story? the story of how your daughter was suspected of being MAdeleine Mccann and you were suspected of being child abductors/linked to paedophile rings? Because that's how the media operate, and if this family wer to come forward, then the media would be all over them - there's just no way...

GreebosWhiskers · 06/08/2007 10:50

I haven't read the whole thread but I skimmed a bit of it & saw some posters (I think one was belgo) saying that their dd's resemble Maddy. My dd3 looks a bit like her (same hairdo as Maddy had when she went missing) & we were at the bus stop outside our local cinema last week when a woman came up & started talking out of the blue about 'that wee girl who went missing in Portugal', all the time staring at dd3. Then she says 'How old is your wee one - about 4?' and I said 'no, she's nearly 2 and a half'. The woman gave me a funny look & said 'oh she looks about 4 to me'. I just turned the buggy around so she could see {ginormous) ds & said 'well 8mo ds here is bigger than his 16mo cousin - I guess it's 'cos their dad is 6 foot 4' (I'm not exactly short either).

I totally understand that people want Maddy to still be alive so badly that they 'see' her all over the place - I'd love to think that it was Maddy who was seen in Belgium & that she is being looked after. Thing is though, with all the publicity it's hardly likely that whoever has her will be taking her to cafes (or the cinema) & when I realised what that woman was thinking it left me really shaken.

LIZS · 06/08/2007 13:11

Surely the Belgian police would not have to make their identity public, simply state that that line of enquiry has been exhausted.

LIZS · 06/08/2007 13:16

and rather that than have would-be sleuths tailing my car and family. tbh each pic of M looks differnent to the next , hair, expression whatever , so almost anyone accompanied by a fair haired 4-6 year old girl could be put under scrutiny depending which one you have last seen. People will see what they want to see a lot of the time, even eyewitnesses to the same incident regularly contradict each other.

wannaBe · 06/08/2007 17:24

according to

metro
the portuguese police seem to believe that Madeleine died in the apartment, but that her death was accidental and not murder.

Puts a bit of a different spin on things doesn't it?
