I missed his mum and dad too, had to leave for work, but was absolutely thrilled to see him safe and well. Unexpected good and uplifting news at a time when there is a lot of debate about political and religious difference between the West and the Middle East.

So amazing - Im very moved by it all. He is absolutely inspirational, his professional integrity is astonishing under such circumstances. Hard to express without seeming trite, but I am blown away by him and his family - so dignified.

It's great to hear some good news, and all the BBC presenters have a right to be a bit biased today.
I watched a bit of an interview with Alan, just after he had been released. He came across so eloquently - if that was me I'd be a crying gibbering wreck!

His poor parents have been through the mill - including hearing reports that he had been killed. I'm just so happy for them and blubbed away when I saw them on telly this morning. They're so sweet and it was so touching that everyone in their village had held a vigil every week and stood by them so strongly.

I'm thrilled for him too of course! (but at least he knew he was alive...)
