Anyone else feel Madeline Mccann story overplayed?

Tragic for her family and others who loved her.
I would never blame her parents for efforts they made to keep this in public mind.
The story obviously touched a lot of hearts.
But does it deserve so MUCH attention? In playgroups, schools, cinema, supermarket and street-corner notices a thousand miles away from where she disappeared?

Not trying to get on Sky news, nor am I a heartless b*tch. But I do get upset that so much attention and energy has been devoted to this topic when much worse and more important things are happening in the world.

Even among us parents, surely we should put this in more proportion?

Am I the only one thank thinks like that?

there is always one......

Pondi · 03/07/2007 11:55

I have just joined after reading all your comments, I think the thing that everyone must think about is just exactly how do you go about carrying on with your life after your child had been snatched?

I am astounded by the courage and faith that the Mccanns have shown, their perseverance in having no leads has only driven them on further, there are some people missing the relevence of having Madeleines face everywhere, just one person who doesn't watch the news or read a paper or perhaps have friends to chat to just might have seen a blonde child somewhere that she shouldnt be......

Kewcumber · 03/07/2007 11:56

They live near me, thankfully they were spared hideous speculation on whether they were involved despite there being many "strange" things about that case too. Kidnap and murder are often pretty strange. I personally won't be pointing any fingers at the McCanns until there there is at least a little speck of evidence (vs speculation).

I shall now bow out gracefully with Rhubarb and leave you to speculate as you are obviously entitled to do.

Kewcumber · 03/07/2007 11:56

the Lamplughs live near me that is...

hippipotami · 03/07/2007 11:57

Rhubarb - it is not about taking it up with people, and about being offended. It is about the campaign to find MMC. To find her they need to keep the public on side. To do this they need to pick the places to publicise and amount of publicity in each place.
The agency dealing with this has got this wrong, gone overboard, and now has started to alienate people. (and not just me, and not just on here, just listen when in bus queues, in doctors surgeries or any other public place where poeple are talking)

To sustain a long term campaign you need to pace yourself. This campaign has been too much, too much. It is not sustainable as unfortunately a large proportion of hte public is now starting to 'tune out'

JoolsToo · 03/07/2007 11:57

so are they back home?
genuine question, I've not been following it on the news

hippipotami · 03/07/2007 11:57

Oh, and rhubarb, please don't blow a bloodvessel - it is not good for your health!

furReal · 03/07/2007 11:59

our local shop have taken down the posters because of the number of complaints received.

LucyJones · 03/07/2007 12:00

at this thread.
The police have said there is nothing suspicious whatsoever about the McCanns and yet posters on here still think they know best. ffs

Electroma · 03/07/2007 12:01

oh my goodness no no no

i am sorry i didn't mean that at all. I am actually really upset that my comments have been taken in that way

I mean - i think something strange has happened.

I really, really didn't mean to suggest her parents did it.

I think there is more they know, but i think the police know things we dont as well. I think there is something more to it thats all.

Pondi · 03/07/2007 12:01

Im guessing no one thats ponficating on here can actually answer my question..?

the police have also said (apparently) that there was no forced entry, and that they can't be certain that Madeleine was actually abducted. But that's something the media haven't been so quick to report

binkleandflip · 03/07/2007 12:03

You look for that child, Pondi, you do everything you can to help the police solve the case.

Beyond knowing what she looks like (which we do), why does the public need to be involved?

LucyJones · 03/07/2007 12:03

Electorama - your post is nosensical. So you don't think they did it, but you think they know who did? Are you a police officer? The only thing 'sttange' is that someone took their daughter. What is it you think they know?

LucyJones · 03/07/2007 12:05

furReal -they can't be certain because they have no evidence.
They're was no forced entry because the door was open or the shutters, I can't remember which.
So are you saying you think they did it?

TaylorsMummy · 03/07/2007 12:05

i can't believe that anyone can seriously believe the mccanns had anything to do with this or that they know who do it's just stupid.someone explain this theory to me cos i just don't get it.

Pondi · 03/07/2007 12:05

Because as I pointed out, you only need one more person to actually recognise her and she could be found.....!! unless you have a crystal ball there is no time limit on that happening therefore she needs to be kept in the public eye.

Electroma · 03/07/2007 12:05

Lucy - if i knew that i WOULD be a police officer!

Of course i dont know, i just think it has been strange. I get a strange feeling about the whole thing.

there has been information covered up so far - which has eventually got out.
I am sure there are things that have not yet come out.
(this happens in every case - the police dont release all info for a reason, whatever it may be regarding sepcific cases)

Noone can argue with that - it is a fact.

furReal · 03/07/2007 12:05

likewise, and I have said on this and other threads that I don't believe the McCanns were involved but that I do believe that they know more about this than they've said. There are just too many things.

Taking a child from an apartment would be extremely risky, you couldn't even be sure that the child was alone there surely, you couldn't know when the parents would go back to check, the risk of being seen would be so great. And why only Madeleine, why not one of the twins? A smaller child would be far easier to pick up and carry away, and far less likely to talk and reveal their identity to anyone.

Plus Kate McCann calling out "they've taken Madeleine" who are "they"? it's a very strange thing to say.

LucyJones · 03/07/2007 12:08

This is unbeleievable.
So you think her mother knows who has taken her.
The only reason all the informarion hasn't been released is because that is the way the Portugese police work.
I'm going to have to parp myself and let you ghouls work on your conspiracy theories.

binkleandflip · 03/07/2007 12:09

Sorry, Pondi but statistically, there is very little chance of anyone seeing Madeleine after all this time. The pictures must have gone round the world twice over by now. We've all seen it, we can't do anymore for the Mccanns. I would say the only people in a position to offer assistance in finding her are the perpertrators or those in their circle. Very little chance of a member of the public just coming across her.

Electroma · 03/07/2007 12:09

sorry specky, its not shite.
its facts that dont necessarily add up.

A friend of mines wife, who is a senior police officer, said the same.

It is THE most unusual abduction case she has heard of, some of the events are almost unfeasible.
