it really pisses me off that it is STILL ok to make people with ginger/red/titian/whatever the hell you want to call it feel like physical freaks.

Ginger 'jokes' aren't funny.

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 18:38

No, they're not particularly funny or clever - and that is exactly how to think about it when it happens to you - we were the same all 5 of us gingas, the way to deal with it is to laugh along, whether you agree or not; especially when you're a child.
I've just asked my dd if ginger people get called at her school and she just looked at me blankly; then again she is blonde!!

Gingerbear · 26/06/2007 18:41

Someone mention ginger?
There are lots of red-heads at DD's school. I think it must be a celtic/ catholic thing.

Oh, and gingercub is turning out to be an auburn boy

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 18:41

We're taking over the world.. didn't you know?

nomdeplume · 26/06/2007 18:44

it hasn't happened to me, I am a dark brunette but 2 of my kids are ginger and DS has had plenty of grief because of it over the years, he has now almost completely grown 'out' of it and his hair is pretty much a mousey colour and he is thrilled. It makes me to think he is so very pleased to lose his red hair.

DD is nearly 5 and is ginger, I don't think she will grow out of it as hers is a different tone to DS2's. The thought of someone, anyone making your children feel less of a person because of their hair colour makes my blood boil

Gingerbear · 26/06/2007 18:46

I agree NDP.
Never seems to be an issue at DD's school - as there are quite a few of them, guess it is regarded as the norm.

nomdeplume · 26/06/2007 18:49

I have had a terrible day today so I'm prob not being entirely rational on the subject

So is that old chestnut that redheads are a dying breed a load of old cobblers ?

wombat2 · 26/06/2007 18:57

Any minority seems to be persecuted at some stage - and redheads are a minority due to the recessive gene (to get red hair you need a red hair gene from both parents). Don't know whether it is dying out though...

Wisteria · 26/06/2007 19:00

I certainly don't think it's as bad as it was for redheads; not according to the children at our comp anyway, my daughter actually told me she'd love my colour hair and thought it was unfair that she was blonde.....

Tortington · 26/06/2007 19:02

re hair gene from both parents?

balls, i was utterly convinced i was going to have a veritable plethera of red header ginger grandkids.

am disspointed

paulaplumpbottom · 26/06/2007 20:48

I thought it was natural blondes that were supposed to be dying out
