I am.

One of my oldest friends was elected to his local council on the first count. I am so pleased I started crying when he rang me.

I'm just ticked off that we are stuck with our useless sack of a Labour MSP for another term. It was a close run thing, probably just as well for her that ballots were "spoiled" but she can now spend another few years letting the SNP list member do all the ground work so she can step in for the photo opportunity when whatever project is successful.

I am so glad Labour have been given a kick up the backside, they so deserve it. I just wish they had done worse and the other parties had gotten seats that Labour deserved to lose.

SherlockLGJ · 04/05/2007 20:03

He took it from Labour in a by-election following a Lab Cllr's untimely death.

He only won it in September 2006 so has only held the seat for 7 months, and he topped the poll.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooo bloody proud of him.

pesme · 04/05/2007 20:04

gutted for the greens, as usual the environment gets ignored.

MrsCurly · 04/05/2007 20:33

Hey not at all Pesme. Something really interesting is going on. Sure they've gone down from six seats but they now hold the balance of power IF the SNP and Lib Dems do a deal. They will have to get the Greens on board too to getthe magic 65 seats they need. Quite incredible really.

pesme · 04/05/2007 21:01

well the mood amoungst the greens is decidely blue.

SherlockLGJ · 04/05/2007 21:02

It shouldn't be, you could be looking at a rainbow coalition.

Kevlarhead · 04/05/2007 22:01

Found a website, The Daily Mash . Looks like Scotland's answer to The Onion .

Particularly like
ALEX SALMOND KILLED YOUR GUINEA PIG, BLAIR TELLS SCOTS CHILDREN.

"Do you remember your guinea pig? Do you remember how much you loved it? And do you remember waking up one morning to discover that it had died, for no reason, during the night?"

"The fact is, Alex Salmond, the leader of the SNP, crept into your house and strangled your guinea pig. And if your mummy and daddy vote for him, he'll kill your cat, your dog, your goldfish and your hamster, because he can't stop himself."

and JESUS TO CAMPAIGN AGAINST SCOTTISH CHRISTIAN PARTY

GiantSquirrelSpotter · 04/05/2007 22:09

Oh Blimey

I feel like packing my suitcases and rushing up to Inverness.

If Scotland goes independent, will that mean that England will be Tory for the rest of history? What are the current figures?

Macdog · 04/05/2007 22:11

PMSL at the ballot papers in microwave
Thanks Kevlarhead

I think it is a retrograde step!

I think that the Scottish Nationalist movement brings out the worst of the Scottish psyche. The introvertedness and dourness, suspicious of anyone new in the village/twon/city.

I am rightly proud of being Scottish, but I am prouder still that I can be so and still integrate with teh world at large!

TwoIfBySea · 04/05/2007 22:28

Kevlarhead, that is hilarious!

Dogsbollox that description is straight out of the Labour textbook (right under the bit about the hamster.)

Aefondkiss · 05/05/2007 23:23

I just wish Labour had a bigger defeat, I was really hoping they would've had a really embarrassing defeat, it was a fiasco, over 100,000 ballots "spoiled" , very convenient, if Scotland gets independence, I will vote green, need independence first, I do not want to be associated with Labour government after Iraq.

not sure I fit the "worst of the Scottish psyche. The introvertedness and dourness, suspicious of anyone new in the village/twon/city. "

I like my Polish neighbours,

"I am prouder still that I can be so and still integrate with teh world at large!" - when I think about this I think about what Iraqi people think of our integration with the rest of the world, i am ashamed to be assocciated with the uk government, if Scotland gets independence I don't think we will be fighting such wars.....

GreebosWhiskers · 05/05/2007 23:29

I'm with you Aefondkiss

louii · 06/05/2007 00:22

shrerlock, think we have a mutual friend

suzycreamcheese · 06/05/2007 01:19

its great news!
... labour were kept alive in the dim and dark and long thatcher years by scotland (and wales) only to be rewarded with her spirtual succesor in bliar...am so glad they can not take these votes for granted anymore...

i think alex salmond would make a good first minister and they really cant ever do any worse than labour administration...

alipiggie · 06/05/2007 02:20

Well an English woman who lived in Scotland and voted SNP - strange but true. I for one am truly delighted by the result. Alex always struck me as being a man who could lead Scotland forward. So the results get a huge congrats from Colorado. Way to go SNP. And Jack - switch the lights off on your way out

Aefondkiss · 06/05/2007 13:52

I agree with you suzycreamcheese about Alex Salmond. I do hope it will be a positive thing for Scotland, and a chance for maybe more interest in how this country is run.

suzycreamcheese · 06/05/2007 15:12

aefondkiss....i think he is dignified and eloquent and opposed this bloody war so if i was there would have supported him...

from what i can gather i dont think the nationalist issue is really as big as before - in 70's / 80's with the westminster administration waste of oil revenues to the distant governance imposing poll tax before the rest of the uk...
..the scottish parliament and eu take the sting out of westminster a bit now...but in saying that there is just so many layers of government to support that thinking about independence if / when SNP take control (and if dont make an arse of it) ...would not necessarily be a bad thing for scotland...

Aefondkiss · 06/05/2007 17:02

it is great to see an english person supporting snp ali!

I agree Suzy, did you ever see the alistair grey book - "why the scots should rule scotland" ?

a good read, I am not eloquent in political argument, but I think scotland would be better governed locally ,and I think we will get there one day.

SherlockLGJ · 06/05/2007 17:07

Louii

really.

Start putting down very broad hints on here.
