Not sure what it yet...

OP posts:
IvorHughJarrs · 25/02/2018 20:43

I agree it's helpful to post about events unfolding as long as it is factual, as this post has been and not the "Oh dear Lord not again" that was posted last week when City Airport shut

taffett · 25/02/2018 20:44

Thoughts are with everyone affected by whatevers happened, hopefully no fatalities Thanks

EdithWeston · 25/02/2018 20:47

There's a brief article on the front page of the BBC News website

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-43192909

Explosion in the Hinkley Road area and search&rescue operation underway

AnnieAnoniMouse · 25/02/2018 20:50

Thank you for posting. I’m now going to check the news.

NorthernLurker. You’ve been unusually grumpy lately. Hope you’re ok 💐

Creambun2 · 25/02/2018 20:54

who made northern the thread police? this is on all the news sites so why can't people discuss it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 25/02/2018 21:13

Well I don't appreciate it either. I have family in Leicester and this is on 'trending' now for the voyeurs. It's one thing to read/hear it on the news but not for here and there's no information anyway.

It's scaremongering and as pp said, a 'race to tell' (nothing).

Hiding the thread now but I really wish MNHQ wouldn't let threads like this be on 'trending'.

Viviennemary · 25/02/2018 21:15

I must say when I saw the title I thought the very worst.

GreenSeededGrape · 25/02/2018 21:19

How the fuck is reporting actual news scare mongering. This is a very weird thread.

Lying maybe you need to step away from the internet.

Its on all the news channels, and the home pages of a lot of the servers.

Its a news event, people will talk about it. That's life.

Sallystyle · 25/02/2018 21:23

There is nothing wrong with this thread OP.

Reporting news, as it is currently stated is not fear mongering.

NorthernLurker · 25/02/2018 21:23

I'm not grumpy. I am fed up of people posting without information though.

The declaration of a major incident reflects the amount of units involved. The emergency services may declare but the local hospitals may or may not. The distinction isn't particularly well known however and after last year's incidents there are plenty of people who are very anxious about further terror attacks. (I'm not one of those btw)
If the op had waited a few minutes then posted about what looks like a gas explosion I would have said nothing. Worst case is a thread like a few weeks ago when city airport was closed. The was one reasonably informed thread and one hysteriafest which practically had a #prayforthedutyfree going before anything at all was known.

NorthernLurker · 25/02/2018 21:24

The ops first post was saying she didn't know what it was. That's absolutely NOT news.

Rachie1973 · 25/02/2018 21:26

A 'Major Incident' posted on the 'In The News' section.

I'm not sure why it's even being questioned.

As you were OP :)

kalapattar · 25/02/2018 21:28

But then there are early reports - such as the Manchester bombing. No one knew what that was but people knew something had happened and it was trending on Twitter.

Should people stay silent on Mumsnet even if it's being mentioned elsewhere on social media?

SunnySeaShell · 25/02/2018 21:33

Oh gosh, all I meant was that I heard there was something happening in Leicester, I didn't know what it was but maybe others did or wanted to discuss.

It was obviously badly worded but I definitely didn't mean to cause any issue or upset people, argh! Lesson definitely learnt. Sad

OP posts:
dinkydoodah · 25/02/2018 21:34

Nothing wrong with OP 's thread. It was initially reported as a major incident and continues as such, regardless of precise facts. Why some folk feel the need to invent bizarre thread 'rules' I'll never know 🤔

Livelounge · 25/02/2018 21:36

Nothing wrong with this thread OP. Hope everyone involved (in Leicester) is ok.

Some people are twats on here- want a "trigger warning" just because you have family in the area? DFOD.

Babyroobs · 25/02/2018 21:38

Four people critically injured being reported now .

Petalflowers · 25/02/2018 21:40

OP - you haven't done anything wrong. The first reports said 'major incident' and to avoid the area. Not scaremongering, but informative.

LondonHereICome · 25/02/2018 21:42

Meh northern.... offended for the sake of it I think!

kalapattar · 25/02/2018 21:44

If there was a large explosion in any UK city, the chances are it would trend on twitter and appear on MN.

That's the reality nowadays. The issue is speculation, not reporting facts.

The OP reported facts. No speculation.

Babyroobs · 25/02/2018 21:46

Four critically injured. Really hope children not involved as sounds like it could be a family in the flat above. Thoughts are with all affected.

Wellysocksbox · 25/02/2018 21:47

Well, I’m offended by people being offended TBH.

kalapattar · 25/02/2018 21:50

Twitter has certainly brought out the racists.

Pipsqueak11 · 25/02/2018 21:51

i live in Leicester and was pleased to be alerted to this by OP as would have got stuck in horrible traffic around that way later tonight when i pick up dd2 otherwise. I therefore am pleased that this was posted as an alert and struggle to see why anyone would find it odd as it is breaking news at the top of the BBC website . Hardly scaremongering in my book.
