Brokenbiscuit · 25/02/2018 20:12

Shit, I live very near Leicester. What's happening?

NorthernLurker · 25/02/2018 20:13

Well why not wait till it is known before spreading alarm in the race to post first. AngryI will be reporting this.

LondonHereICome · 25/02/2018 20:13

Yes dd just read that out! Could be anything

SunnySeaShell · 25/02/2018 20:13

It seems to be an 'explosion' and a fire but I don't think it's sinister...

OP posts:
mercurymaze · 25/02/2018 20:13

an explosion near a londis, on twitter

SunnySeaShell · 25/02/2018 20:14

Yes I'm sorry, will report myself

OP posts:
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 25/02/2018 20:14

Gas explosion in a commercial property, apparently. Stand down, to some extent at least...

mercurymaze · 25/02/2018 20:14

why report the thread? it's okay to talk about things as they happen surely

NorthernLurker · 25/02/2018 20:15

Sure, if something has happened. The op doesn't know what, why or where. All this will do is scare the crap out of people.

LondonHereICome · 25/02/2018 20:17

I think there are far worse threads on MN which will 'scare the crap out of people' Hmm

SunnySeaShell · 25/02/2018 20:17

I've reported, the last thing that I wanted to do was cause alarm, sorry folks Blush

OP posts:
MollyHopps · 25/02/2018 20:18

"Please avoid the area"

.......so everyone and their gran pops down to the police cordon to have a look Hmm

MollyHopps · 25/02/2018 20:20

And OP, you are't scaring the crap out of anyone. You are informing them.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 25/02/2018 20:22

It’s fine OP. I hear more about world events on mn than anywhere else, don’t feel bad.

GreenSeededGrape · 25/02/2018 20:24

Ffs Northern you don't get to decide who can post what Hmm

Wellysocksbox · 25/02/2018 20:26

I don't have a news app on my phone so I rely on Mumsnet for news! Flowers for you OP, some people get a bit snippy on here. No need to take the thread down.

taffett · 25/02/2018 20:32

Thanks for informing op, no need to worry about reporting the threadThanks

Wellysocksbox · 25/02/2018 20:33

And to be fair to the OP, something HAS happened.

AlexanderHamilton · 25/02/2018 20:34

Dd just ran downstairs to tell me this. Hope there are no fatalities. Sounds like a gas explosion but very little details. Search & rescue underway.

AlexanderHamilton · 25/02/2018 20:35

and it’s breaking news so why shouldn’t there be a thread.

Asiaticlily · 25/02/2018 20:36

It looks like this was the building there before.

(no idea how old this google maps image is so it may have changed)

£5 says it's a gas leak

Babyroobs · 25/02/2018 20:41

Supermarket and flat above have been obliterated. Really hope no-one is hurt after . If this is a gas explosion then it will be the second in Leicester area in a couple of months . One in our village in December killed an elderly lady and has left many other families temporarily homeless.

AlexanderHamilton · 25/02/2018 20:41

Gas is always my first thought.
