His behaviour was picked up at the time it happened by both sides of the press. It wasn't hidden. So 2 years after these articles were first published and just as the man may be thinking on running for president, the far right start a smear ampaign.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/11/2017 09:16

Of course.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 19/11/2017 09:27

It would be different if any of these girls had complained.

But that’s it isn’t it? He knows full well they won’t complain because they’re young kids, all excited to be there, on their best behaviour, and scared not to mess things up for their parents by being rude to a man their parents think is great.

This is how the silence begins, by training girls to smile and be pleasant.

differentnameforthis · 19/11/2017 11:26

Because if the clips are being circulated by Republican activists then they may be not at all what they seem

ALWAYS has a young girl in front of him
ALWAYS touching her hair/face
Always hands on shoulders, and/or waste, holding her in front of him

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 11:31

I really can’t believe that those posters on here who are attempting to minimise this behaviour (many of whom are posters on the feminism board!) have actually watched the videos. Have you? Because if you have, it’s obvious that no editing is required at all to make JB look beey very creepy in his interactions with young girls and women.
I can’t help thinking that by saying that this is a right wing conspiracy, you are using EXACTLY the same arguments that have been used recently by a derailing posted on a trans thread this week!
JB’s behaviour doesn’t mean he’s a paedophile or sex abuser, but it’s creepy as fuck and actually even watching it is upsetting because most or all women have had that kind of experience of being touched when they didn’t want to be and feeling the hot breath in their neck of some man who doesn’t respect their boundaries.
I can’t believe what I’m reading here. Shame on anyone who attempted to minimise this without even bothering to watch the videos (of which there are many)

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 11:32

And I’m not in any way right wing and don’t read breitbart FYI

QueenLaBeefah · 19/11/2017 11:37

I can't stand Trump but I also think Joe Biden is very creepy around young girls. I just don't think that these videos can be misconstrued.

NannyOggsKnickers · 19/11/2017 12:00

I’m not saying it is not uncomfortable. It is obvious that these are all awkward encounters. But I think it is hysterical to take the step from him being a bit touchy freely to him bring a paedophile in private. Which is my main objection to what happened on the first page of this thread.

I agree with innocent until proven guilty. I’n Not into trial by internet or mob mentality. Which is what is being whipped up here.

Let’s be clear. It is not ok to make people feel uncomfortable, especially on purpose. But there is a wide gulf between being overly friendly and s bit of space invader (with everyone) and being a sexual predator. I have an uncle who is the former. He is not being creepy nor is he a sex offender. He just comes from a family of huggy people and often forgets himself. Everyone has a different level of comfort with physical contact.

Joe Biden needs to think about his boundaries but he is not molesting those girls. He needs educating about personal space. But there is no evidence in those videos that he is a sex offender. Unless you read into them through your own warped view of the world.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 12:04

You don’t need to have a warped view of the world to find a powerful man sniffing the necks of women and girls quite disturbing, surely. I can’t really imagine that he does this to men, but you may be right.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 12:06

The faces of the girls and women involved tell a story too. He’s making them feel extremely uncomfortable. I really hope it is just that he’s never been told and doesn’t realise how polite we generally are about stuff like this. Hopefully there’ll be an improvement in his behaviour now.

QueenLaBeefah · 19/11/2017 12:08

He knows exactly what he is doing. He knows it makes them feel uncomfortable and is why he keeps doing it.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 12:08

But it’s a bit shitty to dismiss these videos out of hand just because we like the man involved, imo.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/11/2017 12:09

I dislike the phrase "touchy feely" being used almost as an excuse here too. Touching and feeling. Not appropriate.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 12:09

If it was someone else then I think the reactions on this thread would have been very different QueenLaBeefah

QueenLaBeefah · 19/11/2017 12:11

We need to stop giving men we like a free pass.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/11/2017 12:14

"Biden being Biden" seems to be the line.

noblegiraffe · 19/11/2017 12:14

Why has no one said to him 'Joe, you need to stop stroking and kissing young girls'?

Even if it is totally innocent (and I hope it is), it is entirely inappropriate and, yes, creepy.

The vast majority of MNetters don't have a vote in the US so talking about right-wing smears or whatever is totally pointless when watching those videos.

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2017 12:20

There are two issues here. Joe Biden's possible inappropriate touching (and I wouldn't condemn anyone on the strength of those videos but further investigation obviously needs to happen) AND the fact that the videos are being spread by right and extreme right sources at this particular time. Sources which have been remarkably silent on the accusations of sexual abuse made against Trump.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 12:26

The issue for me is that many powerful men can do as they please to women and children and get away with it. Hopefully he’s “just” an unwanted toucher/touchy-feely/handsy etc, but minimising it and saying there haven’t been any complaints is just beyond the pale imo.

TheFallenMadonna · 19/11/2017 12:27

What form do you think that investigation should take?

picklemepopcorn · 19/11/2017 12:34

The Washington Post article given below as evidence that he is sleazy says this:

"Biden is a creature of his time; that's not so much an excuse as it is context. He is folksy and always (overly) familiar, the kind of guy who name-checks somebody named "Mouse" at an NAACP convention.

Those personality quirks have typically been viewed as part of his charm and political strength. But the recent display does, as York and others suggest, raise the specter of sexism.
....... He is given a pass because he is from a different time. There are plenty of older male politicians whose frame of reference in greeting the opposite gender is far too 1960s rather than 2010s; almost none of them are on-camera nearly as much as Biden is.

But as a man who prides himself on his work on women's issues, Biden might heed his own advice. He said that attitudes are changing about what "constitutes appropriate behavior." That should probably apply to Joe Biden's interactions with women too."

I agree with this completely. It’s not sleazy as such, it’s sexist and old fashioned and not at all unexpected in a man of his age and position.

I very much hope that the next generations will behave very differently, but I don’t think he is a predator.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 12:39

It should be quite easy for him to stop doing it then Smile

TheFallenMadonna · 19/11/2017 12:40

I linked that article, not as evidence that he is "sleazy", which is not a word I have used, but to counter the suggestion that this is a brand new information led by the alt right. The word I have used throughout is "inappropriate". And I think that is gist of that piece too. Which I did read before linking.

SlowlyShrinking · 19/11/2017 12:43

Also, how is it that no one’s told him to stop? And if they have, why hasn’t he? If he genuinely gives a shit about the rights of women and girls then he would. If he’s just paying lip service then he’ll carry on doing it.

"Brietbart posted an article 4 days ago called the Adventures of Creepy Joe Biden Serial Young Girl Toucher. I'm not posting a link because I refuse to click on that website. It was then picked up by the person you cite in your original post. Feel free to google. "

Let's see shall we:
