Issues raised by the CG case 11

Venusflytwat · 17/07/2017 18:30

This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

this is getting beyond sad now

he cant see gosh have no reason to lie about that did hirano say he coul see? this is all in their heads now

poor judge will have to make the decision now and it wont be easy

sashh · 19/07/2017 08:47

I'm torn on right to die. I agree with sos about the potential for abuse, but I can see why people want to leave it to the absolute last minute rather than kill themselves while they are still physically capable

I think, someone correct me if you know better, under Dutch law you have to be with your GP for 2 years and both be in agreement for you to be able to ask to die.

I'm not sure the GP is the one to do the assisting. Just thinking Harold Shipman have liked that.

friendlysnakehere · 19/07/2017 08:49

@online the account that was first mentioned was definitely a parody one. I posted a screenshot.

That has no bearing on whether the news is legitimate or not.

friendlysnakehere · 19/07/2017 08:50

Telling everyone you think a discussion they're engaged in is pointless/pointless at this point borders on the rude

Incredibly rude, I agree.

muckypup73 · 19/07/2017 08:59

I think the judge will be aware that if he rules against Gosh that then everyone will think Gosh were liars after all.

GabsAlot · 19/07/2017 09:09

tru mucky but either way gosh cant win

treatment goes ahead gosh are liars

treatment denied it was their fault in the first place

Butterymuffin · 19/07/2017 09:12

And again the majority of the Daily Mail comments are saying let Charlie go. Even in places where you might expect support for the 'rights' of the parents, people can see how sad it is to keep Charlie suffering.

lynsey91 · 19/07/2017 09:14

My heart breaks for Charlie. He looks so sad in the pictures and there is no life whatsoever in his eyes. I dont have children but I know if my husband, mum, sister etc looked like that I would want to let them go and be at peace and I hope they would do the same for me

oakleaffy · 19/07/2017 09:18

I wish the papers which print defamatory stories about GOSH could be sued.
There is no way GOSH would gain by 'lying'.
Charlie's Circus has tried to denigrate the hospital at every turn, especially the 'God botherers' from America.

GOSH could have appeased ''the mob'' and the Parents by allowing Charlie to leave the hospital weeks ago but they are acting on what they rightly believe is the rights of the child in their care.

Sandthefloor · 19/07/2017 09:22

I think that posting a picture of a toilet - mocking that's it's lit up blue for Charlie too is a bit sick! This thread spends a lot of time sneering at the CA posts, when posts like that are no better. Let's not forget that Charlie's mother could read this at any time and would find it very distressing.

Sostenueto · 19/07/2017 09:23

The sun newspaper has stated the expert failed to convince gosh he could help charlie.

Sostenueto · 19/07/2017 09:25

And I don't know what's up with this thread, I can only get on it via thread 10 link. It is not showing up on I'm on or watching or news thread?

GabsAlot · 19/07/2017 09:25

i dont know how thy would know that sos unless c and c told them as noone else is allowed to

muckypup73 · 19/07/2017 09:26

Sostenueto, I have had no problems and good morning.

Sostenueto · 19/07/2017 09:27

Got to say thread is going down a bit. We need to do what we usually do and not sink down to CAs level. The toilet picture was not on really.

muckypup73 · 19/07/2017 09:28

Sandthefloor, I have to beg to differ on the sneering part, its just crazy someof the stuff charlies army are comming out with that is not helping the parents, had you had a look on charlies army I think you would probably feel different, how can threatening to muder doctors and nurses, threatening to go into the hospital with a bazooka, saying that Gosh are lying and poisining charlie and tonnes of other posts help charlie or his family?

Sostenueto · 19/07/2017 09:29

Maybe as not much is going on till Tuesday that we tone down a bit or open a new thread nearer the court case so as these threads don't go down the way of CA and get pulled?

friendlysnakehere · 19/07/2017 09:29

no humour allowed on this thread

Sostenueto · 19/07/2017 09:31

Morning mucky xx yes I posted on suns fb to say no one knows the outcome till court hearing including the sun! (Grin).

muckypup73 · 19/07/2017 09:32

Sostenueto, they are not going to go down the way Ca have, we have managed 11 threads without stooping that low.

Sostenueto · 19/07/2017 09:33

The toilet picture was precisely that... Toilet humour no appropriate for situation IMO.

GabsAlot · 19/07/2017 09:33

i dont see why we cant discuss still as its a massive case-ethically morally it will set a precedent

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/07/2017 09:33

I have not looked on CA, but rehashing it all on here isn't going to help Charlie's family either.

Sostenueto · 19/07/2017 09:35

Anyways hope all slept well through horrendous thunderstorm?

friendlysnakehere · 19/07/2017 09:35

Sostenueto the key phrase here is 'IMO'.

I thought it was funny, a laugh at the ridiculous behaviour of some on social media, nothing to do with the case.

Just some people chatting in the late evening.

Let's not focus on that to cause a bun fight.
