So sad. Whatever happened to lose your child in this way is heartbreaking. As mine are heading towards adulthood and their own choices it's so upsetting to read.

Oh finally I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't imagine the pain of letting other people near your child, even if there is a purpose. I hope there is some peace for you, although that's probably meaningless in words.

Wrt to Otto Warmbier it is just horrific what happened to him. I don't for a second believe he stole or tried to steal anything. That story about doing it for a car and a secret college is so ridiculous that it could only be expected to be believed by people who had no concept of what life in America and Otto's world was like. It's like a lie a child would make up about what he imagines his day working at the office/in an adult role would be like. He was released before he died because NK anticipated action from the US if he died on their soil. He was kept in that state for so long because they needed time for the evidence of what caused that state to disappear. Like others I also suspected water boarding leading to the respiratory issues.

My heart goes out to his parents. Nobody deserves what happened to him. I hope they take some comfort in the fact he was with them in his final days.

I think his family refused autopsy on religious grounds.

I don't understand why they would decline an autopsy?

I think they are Jewish, autopsies are not welcomed although I have forgotten the reason why.

I read an article by someone who had been on a similar trip with the same company. The tour company encouraged them to drink and then run through the staff only 'secret corridor' - madness.

I think I must have read the same article Kitty - just dreadful. Poor Otto and his poor parents. What an incomprehensible pain they have to try and live with.

I read that - they did an interview with Fox News I think? So heart breaking for them, their poor boy slipping away so far from them.
