Watching the news just now and I can't believe my eyes. It looks absolutely horrific.

I want to think everyone got out safe, but sadly I just can't.

Some of the news reports are about alleged poor safety standards and dangerous living conditions. If that's true it just beggars belief.

From
What I've read it won't make much difference to drop water on the top of a fire like that they have to fight it from the base

Spudlet · 14/06/2017 06:24

If there was anything else they could do, they'd be doing it. Sad

The eye witness reports are awful, I'm in tears reading them. Dear god.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 14/06/2017 06:27

It's horrific news to wake up to. Those poor people, I just can't get my head around it.

I too am completely horrified by how a whole tower block can just be consumed in flames so rapidly, it is just so shocking.

DogStrummer · 14/06/2017 06:31

The stuff of nightmares! If the reports on the building are even half-true, someone needs to be doing time for this.

Zampa · 14/06/2017 06:31

Hoping against hope that most people made it out.

Very likely that some people will be going to prison over this.

Samoyedydog · 14/06/2017 06:31

This is horrible to read. I've just read they are treating 30 people for injuries so this must mean that more people got out than the 7 the witness saw. So so sad for those poor people Sad

Tiredemma · 14/06/2017 06:34

It's inevitable that there will be people inside won't it? Tragic

MrsExpo · 14/06/2017 06:34

Just woken up to this horrendous news and wanted to add my voice to the horror being expressed. This is something out of your very worst nightmare. My heart goes out to the people affected. I see that many people are in-accounted for: dreading the news of how many people have been lost. Appalling ....

Samoyedydog · 14/06/2017 06:34

Oh also just read that there is 120 flats in there, so 30 doesn't sound a lot at all Sad

FreakOfNurture · 14/06/2017 06:36

There is someone alive in there still, waving out of a window in the least damaged section.

VanillaSugar · 14/06/2017 06:37

I agree that people need to be prosecuted over this. I dread to think what the death toll will be. Those poor people Sad

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 14/06/2017 06:38

It's absolutely terrible. Massive Fire service cuts will also have played a part.

IrenetheQuaint · 14/06/2017 06:39

Anyone remember the fire at Lakanal House in Southwark a few years ago, which killed several people? The local authority had to pay a large fine for not acting on serious weaknesses that had been identified several times. Utterly disgraceful. Fire safety has to be no. 1 priority for anyone responsible for tower blocks.

MakingMerry · 14/06/2017 06:40

It has 120 apartments. There is only one stairway exit route. The council say 100s of people live there. Thirty reported people treated for injuries, another seven to have escaped. I'm afraid from the above, it looks like a death toll in the hundreds.

From the many residents' group blogs on the fire risk, this possibility has been predicted for years. What a horrible thing.

LotusBomb · 14/06/2017 06:43

Horrifying. I've just taken a look at this blog. The fallout from this is going to be colossal. If what is being said is true, KCTMO should be charged with murder. They have blood on their hands and I hope it haunts them for life.

FreakOfNurture · 14/06/2017 06:46

Is the new MP Emma Dent Coad? She's an architect I believe. I hope she cuts through the KCTMO and councillors' bullshit very very quickly.

HoldBackTheRain · 14/06/2017 06:48

Latimer Road is relatively near to me and and very near to my nan. Not that it makes a difference, we're all horrified wherever we live. It's just so awful. Feel so, so sorry for all those that live there, and their families and friends. Have no more words at the moment Sad

ilovesprouts · 14/06/2017 06:51

Shocking to see hope everyone got out 😢

NormaSmuff · 14/06/2017 06:52

So very upsetting Sad

eternalopt · 14/06/2017 06:53

Oh that blog is heartbreaking.

SquirmOfEels · 14/06/2017 06:56

I've woken to this news.

The whole area has been evacuated, as they think the tower might come down. Cordon has been pushed back to radius of 500m+

There are reports of people seen trapped, and of people jumping.

30 patients to 5 hospitals according to Londin Ambulance Service. No word on number of walking wounded.

RhythmAndStealth · 14/06/2017 06:56

Shocking it spread so quickly and so comprehensively. In the first footage I saw it had gone up like a torch. The eyewitness accounts are just heartbreaking. Now it's a burnt out husk.

OP posts:
dontbesillyhenry · 14/06/2017 06:57

Horrendous those poor people and their loved ones Sad

jaffacakefan · 14/06/2017 07:00

People told to put a towel by the door and wait...... disgraceful and tantamount to murder Shock

FreakOfNurture · 14/06/2017 07:00

Rythym Yes, it went up like a torch. I was awake from 2am and saw the early news.

It should have been impossible to spread like that unless corners were cut and possibly unlawful materials used, surely?
