Watching the news just now and I can't believe my eyes. It looks absolutely horrific.

I want to think everyone got out safe, but sadly I just can't.

Some of the news reports are about alleged poor safety standards and dangerous living conditions. If that's true it just beggars belief.

It's just awful, worst nightmare scenario. I can't stop thinking about the families and children that must be in there. I live in a block myself, on the ground floor thankfully. But the thought of all the different types of residents we have, from babies to very elderly.

Does anyone know what time the fire started?

AnnetteCurtains · 14/06/2017 07:01

Those poor poor people

HoldBackTheRain · 14/06/2017 07:03

MrsMcGregor I think it was just after 1am.

Mrsemcgregor · 14/06/2017 07:05

Thank you holdback. It went up incredibly fast then. Awful, just awful.

CaveMum · 14/06/2017 07:05

First call to the Fire Brigade was 12.54am according to the BBC.

RhythmAndStealth · 14/06/2017 07:05

This is just such a tragedy.

If even half the things mentioned in eye witness accounts are true, the repercussions of this are going to massive. And rightly so.

:( Those poor people.. I just can't imagine.

AppleYumYum · 14/06/2017 07:15

Oh this is truely awful, I'm terrified of the news updates as it just can't be possible that everyone got out. This is horrifying for those poor people and the friends and relatives who can see this on every tv but can't find out any news.

Children being thrown out windows Sad Do the firefighters still use those big trampoline things that everyone stands around to allow people to jump? I hope they had a massive one and surely there are ladders or cherry picker things that go higher than the fourth floor?

NorthernLurker · 14/06/2017 07:15

How terrible. Thoughts with the fire brigade too, they must be beside themselves trying to help in such awful circumstances.

Soubriquet · 14/06/2017 07:16

Sad this is shocking

I'm feeling traumatised and I'm no where near.

I dread to think how many fatalities there are..and it will be the very young and the very old more.

Thinking of parents throwing their kids out of the window just to give them a chance of survival....heartbreaking.

It's one of my worst fears...a fire in the night. And I live in a house. I'm speechless...I really don't know what to say

But if the landlords knew something like this was at risk and didn't do anything, I hope they feel the full wrath of the law Angry

RainyDayBear · 14/06/2017 07:17

This is just horrendous. Those poor, poor people. I don't mean this to sound insensitive, but I hope it was a genuine accident and not deliberate. I think that would just make it even worse if someone did this on purpose. Thinking of all those affected Sad

Saucery · 14/06/2017 07:17

Just horrific. How could it happen in this day and age. It shouldn't.

BaffledMummy · 14/06/2017 07:18

So so sad. An utter tragedy. Thoughts are with all those affected Sad

Handbag101 · 14/06/2017 07:18

Poor poor people. So upsetting. Just terrible news.

cherrychop · 14/06/2017 07:18

This is truly horrific. My thoughts and prayers with all those affected.

Orlantina · 14/06/2017 07:22

Awful images. I do wonder what the building regulations are for such blocks. Thoughts with everyone affected.

Bananamanfan · 14/06/2017 07:22

Such awful news to wake up to. I cannot believe that the block did not have a centralised fire alarm. People didn't have any idea there was a fire until it was too late.

Firenight · 14/06/2017 07:24

It's rare I have to tell my husband not to put the TV news on in front of the kids. This was one of those times. Awful awful news to wake up to - those poor poor people. Surely there's a corporate manslaughter charge here, from the accounts we are getting.

Horrific. Those poor people.

Adviceplease360 · 14/06/2017 07:29

What caused the fire? I can't bare to watch the news and see pictures. Horrific

WellThisIsShit · 14/06/2017 07:30

Oh God. Am crying in the bathroom seeing this news. Hiding from DS. Am in west London, I can hear sirens and silence. Those poor poor people.

MercuryMadness · 14/06/2017 07:31

Jesus, this is horrific.
Those poor people.

I cannot believe this. Shocked.

If i was religious I would feel like the end of the world was coming at the moment and that the four horsemen of the apocalypse were in our midst. Every day there is another tragedy.

EdithWeston · 14/06/2017 07:33

"What caused the fire?"

No word on that - I don't think they know yet.

Only official statement is the number taken by ambulance to hospital (not clear if that's people from inside or casualties from jumping or from falling debris outside). No word on walking wounded or numbers who made it out OK.

Reception centres for displaced locals are a nearby Christian centre and a mosque.
