one cute Vietnamese boy - aged 3, she has changed his name, he speaks no English but she was able to just take him away anyway, allegedly...

She didn't say she didn't love or have time for Shiloh, rather that she feltmore empathy towards her adopted children because they stated life under incredibly difficult circumstances.

I also think it's a shame she changed hisname.

However, I think that having been in an orphanage for 3 years, it's no bad thing that he has been adopted into a large family who will no doubt give him more love and attention than he would otherwise receive.

ComeOVeneer · 16/03/2007 12:50

I did wonder wether that was the case re america being a quicker process. So did Madge adopt through America or UK, as that seemed to happen pretty quickly too?

suejonez · 16/03/2007 15:52

Madge adopted through US and there was a great deal of debate about whether she should have gone through UK being resident here however I'm sure for tax reasons at least she is unlikely to be truly resident here.

I personally wouldn't have changed the name of a child that age but as I said it's not uncommon in the US.

FYI there has been a two year gap between each of her adoptions which would be pretty standard in the US (and in fact here if our system moved a bit faster), however it isn;t considered "good form" to adopt a child older than your current existing child.

Bucketsofdynomite · 16/03/2007 15:57

On a completely shallow OT note, doesn't she look frighteningly thin in that photo!

God that site is addictive

americantrish · 16/03/2007 16:08

while i think its great she's adopted another child, i guess it bothers me that it wasnt a child from the country she lives in.

suejonez · 16/03/2007 16:16

Califrau - I know it isn't always that quick and I remember your friends story well. However its very common that you can adopt in less than a year (except China) in the Uk thats impossible, average is about 2.5yrs

AmericanTrish, why does it bother you that she has adopted from a non-american country? Without overseas adopters children in overseas institutions really have no future at all and suicide/crime/prostitution rates are hideously high in these children.

suejonez · 16/03/2007 16:18

PS Califrau - children living in the same place but not biologically related are known in the UK as "social siblings" and are the only kind of multiple adoption apart from bio siblings that are generally allowed now in the UK.

quietmouse · 16/03/2007 16:18

I can't stand Angelina. I think she hand picks her kids on looks alone (notice she's chosen the pretty one)

Out of order to chang his name imo.

If she really wanted to help she could donate some of her millions to help all the other children left behind, or even better, invest some money into the communities so that these parents can actually afford to raise their own children.

snowleopard · 16/03/2007 16:19

I want to think she's a good person but, changing his name... that makes me think she must be really heartless. The poor little love, I just want to give him a big hug (though I'm a stranger too )

suejonez · 16/03/2007 16:27

how do you know that she doesn't give money? How much money does she have to give to allow every poor parent in the world who gave up a child for monetary reasons to keep them? How do you know that he was given up for financial reasons? He was abandoned at 1 month and has lived in an institution ever since, no amount of her money was going to change that situation.

I think the comment that she only adopts pretty children is outrageous when you have no idea about her motives. Don;t you think your child was beautiful at 3yrs old? Most of them are - the photo in the link showed several children, which one do you think she should have picked? Could you choose? Please don't make value judgements about things like this which are purely conjecture on your part.

Debate on some of the practical things she has done eg the name change are valid for debate but guessing what her motives might be are, in my opinion, not.

Adopting a child is hard an even with her money and help I take my hat off to her doing it at all. More people should.

Angelina in the top three Hollywood philanthropists - she does give a great deal to charity.

When my dbro adopted his ds, his name was changed (although he was only 1 at the time) for security reasons, as the birth mother lived not that far away and it was felt it would be too obvious if she saw the kids when they were older and both had the same name as her two kids who were taken away (dbro having previously adopted the older sister of this little boy).

NorksBride · 16/03/2007 17:16

I had my name changed by UK adoptee parents - but only because it was the same as my fathers !

Also I was only 3 months old.

Bucketsofdynomite · 16/03/2007 18:21

PMSL I think 3 adopted children is a bit too small a sample to conclude she only goes for good looking ones.

ScoobyDooooo · 16/03/2007 18:34

I have to agree with Sue.

I think it is great that she has adopted another child & there is no doubt the little boy will now have a happy, healthy life ahead of him with his other siblings. I don't know why people have to be so fast to put these celebrities down, i don't look at children & think they are "ugly" i think every child/baby is beautiful in it's own way, but then that is just me as a person.

I would love to adopt myself but at this moment in life it is not something i am able to do.

misdee · 16/03/2007 18:40

well done angelina and brad. i wish them all the best.

monika11 · 16/03/2007 18:41

i dont like anjelina jolie.
she stole brad from jennifer. she was angry to her father-doesnt speak to him- when he left her mother for aother woman, she did the same, strange.
and now she is adoppting children and travelling all the time. what a life.
what a strange woman. and cold faced. big strange lips.
i dont like her cold face on the pictures, and she is tooo skinny.

TaylorsMummy · 16/03/2007 18:46

I don't like her one bit. She did nick Brad off Jen and she's so brazen about it. The woman has no shame.

And he's like a bloody spare part, hanging off her all the time. I don't think she even wanted to have her own baby and she didn't want to get tied down with him.

She wants to adopt all the time (on her own) and make herself look like bloody Mother Theresa.

She's trying to fill a gap in her life I think

monika11 · 16/03/2007 18:48

i agree with you TaylorsMummy

Boobsgonesouth · 16/03/2007 18:49

...she seems to have some sort of "compulsive adoption disorder".

I think it's a really great thing but what about giving the other children in her household time to adapt to the dynamics of a changing family...and when will it stop ?? will she just keep on adopting more and more children to satisfy something that's clearly missing ????

She doesn't strike me as a naturally nurturing mothering kind tbh...

Just hope it's not an obessession phase that she's going through as she seems to be able to pick these little ones up very very quickly.......

monika11 · 16/03/2007 18:51

"compulsive adoption disorder"
very good

monika11 · 16/03/2007 18:52

now its madonna's turn to adobt.
i wonder which country she will choose.

dabihp · 16/03/2007 18:53

don't you think she is doing a nice thing? giving these kids a much better life?

Maybe the kids name was too ahrd for her/her other kids to pronounce and she wanted to make his/everyones life easier?

and tbh I don't think you can 'steal' a man. If he didnt want to leave Jennifer he wouldn't have.
