Met Office Warning Of Heavy Snow Thursday March 15, 04:07 PM

The Met Office has issued a warning that heavy snow falls are on the way for parts of the UK, starting on Sunday and persisting until the middle of next week. The blizzards will be driven across the country by cold northerly winds and disruption to roads, rail and air travel is likely.

The first significant snowfalls are expected overnight on Sunday and during Monday.

no i remember it snowing at easter in the 70s

Tutter · 15/03/2007 17:20

Environmentalists are warning that the cold snap could prove fatal for many animals that have emerged early from their hibernation because of the mild winter.

Moles, squirrels, dormice, bats and hedgehogs are all at risk.

awwwwww

It'll be that global warming, innit.

oxocube · 15/03/2007 17:22

Have also just read this! Am mightily pissed off as it was 21 deg here on Monday. I was in a short sleeved tee shirt outside and could feel the beginnings of sunburn! Poor hedgehogs and other hibernating things

shonaspurtle · 15/03/2007 17:22

Was the same last year, no? My nephew had his first birthday last week - we couldn't visit this time last year as the snow in Glasgow was v heavy.

I remember going for a walk in Kelvingrove Park instead and everyone was building snowmen and sliding down the hill

exbury · 15/03/2007 17:23

Where? Everywhere, or just the frozen North? Do you mean that I spent 30 minutes deflating DS's snow-tube sledge thing and putting it away last night and now I have to get it out again? DH can blow it up this time, then!

That'll teach me!!

pussycatmomma · 15/03/2007 17:24

Guess I will be sticking to the opaque tights and boots for a wee while longer!

OrmIrian · 15/03/2007 17:28

Marina · 15/03/2007 17:31

Oh my poor magnolia

rowan1971 · 15/03/2007 17:33

Oh no! I have a magnolia that's just about to go bananas (in a flower-related way). Will it suffer, doctor?

bundle · 15/03/2007 17:33

marina, there was a lovely picture in the journal metro today of (allegedly) the country's biggest magnolia, in full bloom which has obviously got a ltd life..

hotandbothered · 15/03/2007 17:37

Oh no Just had plumber out to look at our not working heating. He needs to order a part - it'll be about 5 days

Marina · 15/03/2007 17:38

I saw that bundle
It's a magnficent Grandiflora from the looks of it
The burbs are full of magnolias - there's a similar traffic stopper in full bloom on my walk to the station
Ours is a small but perfectly formed stellata with diddy strappy flowers, but so pretty
Have always photographed the dcs under it every year, better get my skates on, and then my bobble hat etc
Rowan, soft snow on its own, no probs. If it freezes hard that's probably the poor buds done for for this year
