Reports that all royal staff have been called to an emergency meeting and an announcement expected at around 8am UK time.

Snape.... what a nice walk to work Smile

Imbroglio · 04/05/2017 08:33

Peter hunt has tweeted that the meeting is happening at 10am.

Snapespeare · 04/05/2017 08:35

It's lovely, but I did divert a bit so I could let you know.
Treasury is at full mast, but birdcage walk shut to traffic. That's because the barracks marching band is doing a practice. (music not unduly solem.

Would flags be changed before the meeting/official announcement? Bit of a giveaway.

MackerelOfFact · 04/05/2017 08:40

Barely a week goes by without MN trying to kill off one of the HRHs!

Snapespeare · 04/05/2017 08:41

Just now.

thats interesting because I saw pics of media outside the palace on twitter. I think they must be old photos rehashed to cause a stir then.

That's exactly what happened with a previous "palace announcement" social media frenzy. MN having Londoners, they pointed out that London was in the middle of peasouper with visibility of 10 m, so the pics of media vans on a crystal clear night/day were obviously old.

Whoever's circulating today's fake pics, mark 'em down as stirrers.

meladeso · 04/05/2017 08:48

Yeah as pp said, bbc radio have now mentioned it, said they've been told there's no cause for alarm or something.

Scribblegirl · 04/05/2017 08:50

The Sun accidentally published their Prince Phillip dying article with the headline 'Prince Phillip dead, what did he die of, etc etc' 😂

Been pulled down now but half of twitter has screenshots.

Hope it's nothing bad. I'm kind of ambivalent about the royals but think as old aristos go they're among the best ones.

elephantscansing · 04/05/2017 08:50

A storm in a tea cup. These meetings take place every year, and the meeting is at 10am, not 3am!

See www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39801908 for less hysterical reporting.

FrenchLavender · 04/05/2017 09:00

There was a load of fuss like this between Christmas and NY will everyone speculating that her maj or Philip had died, talk of dark somber suits on the Telly etc., and it turned out to be nothing.

steppemum · 04/05/2017 09:19

BBC radio 4 news had the official royal reporter on 9 am news
he has confirmed that no health issues and that the meeting is not unusual. Reason may be released later.

Bolandsbiccies · 04/05/2017 10:09

Prince Philip stepping down from royal duties. Fair dues, he's 95.

CBeebiesaddict · 04/05/2017 10:10

Prince Philip is retiring from royal duties.

StealthPolarBear · 04/05/2017 10:11

Yes think he's done his bit!

marthastew · 04/05/2017 10:14

It will be strange to see the Queen without him at her side.

FrenchLavender · 04/05/2017 10:18

Not sure why that announcement necessitated an emergency meeting in the dead of night though? Confused

redshoeblueshoe · 04/05/2017 10:25

French maybe they wanted a quick whip round to get him a retirement present Grin

stolemyusername · 04/05/2017 10:34

Anyone else thinking PP quite fancied seeing what would happen if people thought he was dead? Seems a bit of an extreme reaction.

diddl · 04/05/2017 14:04

Seems a lot of fuss about nothing!

He's had a few bouts of ill health recently, so it's no great surprise, is it?
That & the fact that he's 95!!

Doubtless she'll miss him, but at least there are plenty of others who can accompany her if she wishes-& he'll still be there at the end of the day!
