Reports that all royal staff have been called to an emergency meeting and an announcement expected at around 8am UK time.

Queen is abdicating maybe or maybe not

farmerswifey2 · 04/05/2017 06:40

There was something very similar a few months back. Half of Mumsnet was glued to the 8 o'clock news - only for it to be an internet hoax - I'm hoping it's the same this time.

OnionKnight · 04/05/2017 06:41

It's probably going to be nothing.

WipsGlitter · 04/05/2017 06:47

A good morning Britain reporter (Richard Gaisford) has just tweeted pics of the media outside so something's up.

Engagement announcements are not given to the quality whole staff in advance.

HerculesMulligan · 04/05/2017 06:51

It's probably very prosaic - gathering all the staff made me wonder if they're going to have significant redundancies within the Royal household.

Heatherbell1978 · 04/05/2017 07:07

I call fake news. Seems to be doing the rounds in Oz and NZ but not so much in UK.

ememem84 · 04/05/2017 07:16

farmers if I recall correctly the last time this was all over the place it talked about big announcements being made around 27 Dec I think. This was when the New Years honours were announced. So a royal announcement just not what the internet was expecting.

Crankycunt · 04/05/2017 07:16

It's not the queen putting her foot down re brexit.

iismum · 04/05/2017 07:21

FFS the Queen's not going to abdicate. She made a vow at her coronation that she would serve till her death and she's always been very clear that she's going to keep it. Some countries have a tradition of older monarchs abdicating so their heirs can take over but no British monarch has ever abdicated for reasons of old age or infirmity and she's not going to be the first.

Snap8TheCat · 04/05/2017 07:26

Lots of newsreaders in black suit and ties.

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 04/05/2017 07:46

I've woken to Oz friends freaking out all over Facebook and and the Brits are having a cup of tea with a stiff upper lip

Tanith · 04/05/2017 07:53

"Why would they call people in in the middle of the night to tell them someone's pregnant? That isn't urgent."

It would be if it was the Queen... Grin

TheHaircutIsFine · 04/05/2017 07:55

QOD snap! I can't even find anything on the BBC so I figure it is either all a hoax or I will find out eventually.

SlaveToDisney · 04/05/2017 08:12

My signal isnt working on my Tele so i cant watch the news. Can anyone offer an update?

Dearohdeer · 04/05/2017 08:16

No news as of yet.

WipsGlitter · 04/05/2017 08:17

Nada.

I do think it is interesting how the royal family think they will be able to control this story in the new news cycle / with social media. If a staff meeting gets this much attention...

RJnomore1 · 04/05/2017 08:18

Not a mention on BBC breakfast.

Another hoax?

Snapespeare · 04/05/2017 08:19

Buck palace is on my walk to work. Flag is at full mast and no press to be seen at front of house

What's happening at the palace?
MyOtherProfile · 04/05/2017 08:19

I read that the meeting was called at 3am. That would be pretty serious.

MyOtherProfile · 04/05/2017 08:21

Snapespeare thats interesting because I saw pics of media outside the palace on twitter. I think they must be old photos rehashed to cause a stir then.

StealthPolarBear · 04/05/2017 08:21

BBC said there will be an announcement, referenced the meeting and said nothing to worry about

Mrsmorton · 04/05/2017 08:24

The royal standard doesn't get flown at half mast because there is always a monarch. The king is dead long live the king...
It's other government offices and other flags that would be half masting.

Monkeyinshoes · 04/05/2017 08:24

Some news person on twitter said we can't tell anything from the flag as the royal standard is never flown at half mast.

Snapespeare · 04/05/2017 08:27

Ooh good point. Hold on... min justice - union jack full mast..

Snapespeare · 04/05/2017 08:28

I'll report on treasury in a mo. (too many trees on birdcage walk to see DWP etc)
