Whilst I'm not surprised (there have been rumours about his extra marital behaviour for a while) I do feel for his family. Waking up to conclusive proof that he not only had sex but unprotected sex is beyond awful. He's an complete w*er.

Makes you wonder if this is why Dame Lowell Goddard resigned from chairing the historic child abuse inquiry, and why she refused to be called by Vaz to explain anything to him and the Select Committee he used to chair.

This was the best bit of news I've had in a while - finally, he has got his comeuppance. Though I note he has only announced his intention to stand down from his position as chair of the HASC (the committee that looks after policy issues such as drugs, prostitution...) and is waiting to see what support he gets from the other committee members.

Meanwhile, another headache for Jeremy Corbyn...

If the footage and audio published by the Sunday Mirror are undoctored then Vaz ought to be finished (simply for being prepared to pay for and supply cocaine, if nothing else) but he's got more staying power than Ebola, so we will see.

Peter Tatchell has just been on Radio 4 saying that, as Vaz is pro the decriminalisation of prostitution, there is no conflict of interest in him remaining as Chair of the Select Committee. Hmm

This makes me think of Christopher Hitchens' comment about those preachers who give fiery sermons denouncing homosexuality as a 'disease'. The Hitch said, 'I have a rule of thumb for such clerics and have never known it to fail: set your watch and sit back, pretty soon they will be found sprawling lustily on the floor of the men's room.'

Not exactly the same situation here, but similar.

Agreed about Guido. The comments are disgraceful and shouldn't be allowed. But the site has a good history of outing hypocrites and corruption.

Yes I think they've got Vaz over his hypocrisy on drugs use and drugs policy.

The Guido comments are dripping with hate speech. They really let the whole site down.

Nothing would surprise me about this revolting excuse for a human. I also suspect (having had the misfortune to meet them and knowing people that know more of them) that the wife will be more concerned by the embarrassment that what he actually did. I'll save my sympathy.

He admitted having gay sex without a condom, and apparently was prepared to pay for hard drugs. That makes him totally unsuited for the HASC.

He is well aware of the risk he took that the media might find out he is on the HASC a senior role with far
more influence than a back bencher.

This isn't simply about a public figure caught with his pants down its that he is paying for sex, drugs that are illegal he was happy to pay for and allow in his property, and his terribly poor judgement of the situation he was getting himself into was lead by his desire for paid sex

He has been on the committee that is looking into drug and prostitution laws what was he doing some practical research. it's a conflict of interest and he took that risk

I really feel sorry for his wife and children

I would guess that the reason he thought he could get away with it is that politicians do get away with it all the time. And not just politicians - look at Jimmy Savile, who abused at least 1,000 women and children over a 40-year period.

Classic narcissist behaviour - thinking that the rules don't apply to you, that you'll never get caught, risking your wife's health for a cheap sexual thrill, etc etc.

I suspect a lot of people in positions of power are narcissists.

What he did wasn't abuse I really would not compare him to Savile

I was referring to his lack of judgement about the situation and the press being tipped off I don't believe for one minute he threatened these men in any way there was consent

What Savile did Is completely different he abused and raped and threatened people. Vaz has been foolish, stupid and arrogant
