It isn't a job....there is no interview, pay, no career sructure and nobody can sack you,( well SSD sometimes do but that is rare..). Most human adults are parents and most have a job/occupation too.

Xenia - I believe those parents you describe are the minority though.

I meant to add that I do consider parenting to currently be my occupation. It is what I do. I guess it depends what your interpretation of the word job is.

I disagree that most parents know what is best for their children. When my DS had colic as a baby, I had no idea what to do. Over the years other problems & issues have cropped up & I have had to consult experts, take advice or read up on things. I class myself as an absolute amateur at this parenting business.
One only has to look at rising levels of childhood obesity to wonder whether parents know or are able to feed their children properly any more.
I do not dispute that most parents have the best intentions for their children but that doesn't necessarily translate to doing the best.
