BBC link Blimey. I'm shocked but not really surprised as American police shot (apparently) 506 people to death in 2015, and another two this week.

But hey, good guys with guns will always stop bad people with guns killing good people, if the NRA are to be believed...

For those who say now is not the time to politicise, we do not need your permission to point out the injustice of it all. We do not need to wait to say 2 wrongs dont make a right. Have you watched the videos of the black men being killed? Not just the recent ones, but the ones from last month and the month before and the month before and before......

The police kill unarmed black men and some then plant weapons on them to claim they were in danger so therfore they shot them.

The US police would love to continue in the way that they do, they would love to maintain the status quo. It is up to us all to take a stand and say that black lives matter and that time is NOW.

LostQueen · 08/07/2016 10:46

No scarf, I think it's a case of an attack on the establishment rather than the specific police officers themselves

Agreed NoGood and I'm praying that the Philando Castile case is the beginning of then end of this disturbing spate of murders- I cannot call them anything else. That officer cannot in any way shape or form claim to have been in any kind of danger and he STILL shot that man. It is disgusting and it has to stop.

LostQueen · 08/07/2016 10:53

I agree Scarf, it is completely counterproductive to the cause and particularly sad to have happened during a time where people were protesting peacefully. However, I am not surprised and I'm not sure what else America expected. Did they honestly think they could continue to turn a blind eye and protect murderers without there being a huge backlash? My only surprise is that it didn't happen sooner.

achildsjoy · 08/07/2016 10:55

I'm disappointed in Barack Obama tbh, considering he is a black male himself I would have thought that he would have done everything in his power to address the unlawful killing of black people in America, it has been going on for years. I watched the video on Twitter of the mans girlfriend sitting in handcuffs in the car next to the body with his daughter, it's horrific. Considering I have black sons myself I am terrified of them growing up in the world in which I have brought them in to. It got to me that on the news these police officers were described as fallen heroes, that justice must be done and the chief was saying how proud he was of the police force, what about justice for these innocent black men?How can you be proud of a police force that intimidates and kills innocent people? It smacks of that white police officers lives are more important than a black persons.

Vixxfacee · 08/07/2016 10:55

Now there's a UK police officer on this morning who killed a man years ago giving his perspective.
He said video recordings can often not tell the true story.

Vixxfacee · 08/07/2016 10:57

If black lives still do not matter under Obama then there is no hope unless something happens now.

Just being black can get you killed. Police officers do not care if they are filmed. They get away with it anyway.

Clayhead · 08/07/2016 11:00

When those 2 black men were murdered by the police this week I didn't see any mention on the news outlets in this country. I read about it on blogs.

I read about it in the papers (Guardian and Times), heard about it on radio FiveLive and saw about it on TV. It wasn't hidden at all.

Clay well I didn't see it. Whereas this is everywhere. This is seen as more important than black people being murdered.

One of my nephews has recently bought a new expensive car, he has already been stopped twice, once with his baby ds in the back for no apparent reason other than to 'check his details' do you think if he was white then he would have been stopped? We can't ignore that racial discrimination goes on even here in the UK.

LookAtMeGo · 08/07/2016 11:08

Come off it, Clay. What is your point exactly?

This is front page news. I hadn't heard of the black killings. They would have been forgotten about by the weekend as well.

LostQueen · 08/07/2016 11:09

I didn't see the guy on This Morning Vixx I've heard that argument about video recordings before and I call bullshit on it. It seems that when it comes to defending the officers, the video evidence is taken as gospel but when it comes to video evidence in defence of black victims "recordings don't always tell the full story".
The recording of Alton Stirling being shot to death in cold blood is cut and dry to me. He was already restrained by two officers, it was completely uncalled for.

buffyajp · 08/07/2016 11:12

Not true vice. It was top story on my bbc news feed app and also saw it as one of the top stories on news channels.

Vixxfacee · 08/07/2016 11:13

Why are more people disagreeing with me saying that I didn't see it rather than the actual issue?

buffyajp · 08/07/2016 11:16

Clays point is that it most certainly was reported all over here. If you didn't see it then obviously you didn't read any newspapers, watch any news or read any news apps. It was the first thing I saw on bbc news app when it happened and there were several discussions about it. Just because it wasn't on mums net or you personally didn't know about it that does not mean it wasn't given plenty of attention.
