So Donald Trump will be the Republican nominee.

Is this real life? Is this my country?

What is happening? I know one person who supports Trump. ONE.

OP posts:
claig · 06/05/2016 09:18

It is set to be the highest trunout US election ever and the debates will be the highest viewing figures ever.

There has been record turnout in Republican primaries with turnout up 60% (with independents and Democrats registering as Republicans to vote for Trump) and Democrat turnout down about 20%.

The left will activate all their MoveOn etc agitators in order to disrupt events and to try and energise their base but this will backfire as seen in Chicago and California when the violence led to increased support for Trump. Trump intends to bring in millions of voters who have never voted before, people who had given up on the rigged system.

"#NeverTrump is a total failure: Donald Trump set to smash record for most popular GOP candidate in modern history

Trump's 10 million votes have already surpassed Romney's and McCain's totals -- he's now poised to crush Bush, too"

CheerfulYank · 06/05/2016 17:10

LOL at the violence at rallies being caused by the left! You can't be serious.

OP posts:
claig · 06/05/2016 17:12

It's all over alternative media. The left wing billionaires who back it etc.

the nice thing about Claig is that she/he makes everything Xenia ever said seem utterly reasonable.

Article in The Hill

"Cruz condemns Trump protesters: These are tactics of left-wing agitators
...
these protesters appear to be trying to use violence and threats,” Cruz said in an interview with DailyPolitics published on The Blaze. “These are the strategies of MoveOn.org, of the left-wing agitators who try to silence a voice they don’t like.”

thehill.com/blogs/ballot-box/presidential-races/278237-cruz-condemns-trump-protesters-these-are-tactics-of-left

claig · 06/05/2016 19:29

As the UK's Spectator magazine says, these left wing protestors just drive more support towards Trump and so turn out to be counter productive.

"Last night in Chicago, a mob of progressives shut down a Donald Trump rally.
...
As lots of conservatives on social media have already said, just imagine if a bunch of violent Trump fans had disrupted a Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton event. They would be called fascists, and the condemnation would be global. Politicians across the world would issue statements expressing concern.

When the same thing happens to a Trump rally, however, the reaction is strangely mute. This unfairness causes resentment which causes Trump to win more votes.

In fact, lots of people who previously might have not voted for Trump will now do so precisely because they don’t want to be told what to do by a bunch of snarling, smug left-liberal millennials. If there was any chance of stopping Donald Trump becoming the Republican nominee, it was shut down last night in Chicago."

I was leaning towards Brexit until Trump backed it. Now I want to vote in just to spite him!

I'm wondering if the whole Trump thing is a set up to get Hillary in. Presumably it'll be an either/or situation between the 2 of them so she'll get votes from people who just want to stop Trump, rather than them actually wanting her. Pretty sure the entire world is doomed whichever one of them gets in! Wink

claig · 06/05/2016 20:05

'I'm wondering if the whole Trump thing is a set up to get Hillary in. '

A lot of conservatives, who dislike Trump, and others have thought that. I don't think that is the case, but we will have to wait and see. Trump is not a traditional conservative, as Newt Gingrich said on Fox last night. Newt said "he is a businessman, who is ant political correctness, anti bureaucracy and anti free trade deals" and anti foreign entanglement and that is as good as it gets for now.

I think this will be the most brutal election campaign ever, since the 1700s and 1800s because Trump has said he would prefer not to go there but he will if Hillary starts. We saw how Trump brought up Cruz's father and Lee Harvey Oswald after which Cruz withdrew from the race quite quickly. Trump is prepared to tell the truth, the whole truth andnothing but the truth if he has to and it will be astounding and will make him President.

BrandNewAndImproved · 06/05/2016 20:11

I did see somewhere That trump said if he runs for president he'll run as a republican and say loads of white power shit to get the votes even though he doesn't think that way.

claig · 06/05/2016 20:15

Trump is not about "white power". Trump has black pastors who have endorsed him, Ben Carson who has endorsed him, Mike Tyosn who has endorsed him, I think Don King likes him etc etc and the African-American Stump for Trump sisters are his biggest fans.

The "white power" smears are part of the left wing tactic, along with the protests, to try and paint Trump as a violent racist. Registered Democrats like Geraldo who have known Trump for years say that he is nothing like that and Trump was friends with Hillary and donated to Democrats for years.

candykane25 · 06/05/2016 20:21

Well, as a Brit observer, this is interesting to read from American voters perspective.
We were a bit gobsmacked that Bush was voted in so have no idea what will happen with Trump. I would have thought many republicans will stay st home, enabling Clinton an easy walk in.
The fact that even Bush is not endorsing him says a lot.
We kind of watch with alarming horror here. Really hoping Trump doesn't end up any near the red button.
But we have our own alarming politicians here too so will just carry on watching with interest.

claig · 06/05/2016 20:29

'The fact that even Bush is not endorsing him says a lot.'

The Bushes are frightened of Trump. Trump said in a live debate that George W Bush knew that there weren't any weapons of mass distruction and that he lied. Trump has also said that he wants the 28 redacted pages of the 911 report opened up and he wants to possibly reopen the investigation into what went on on 911. The Bushes don't know how far Trump will go and what he will do. That is one reason why one faction of the senior Establishment of the Republican party is so frightened of Trump.

claig · 06/05/2016 20:40

Half the entire Establishment is terrified of Trump and what he might do to them. There is unlikely to be any escape for a lot of them if Trump gets in.

"Mega-donors shy away from fight with Trump

Fearful of counterattacks, rich conservatives and their allies are mostly holding their fire.
...
“We would totally donate to you if we could do it anonymously; we’re worried about Trump taking reprisals against us for donating to this,” Mair said, parroting reactions she’s heard from donors."

www.politico.com/story/2016/02/donald-trump-megadonors-219690

The stakes are also huge for Hillary because Trump has said "I'll prosecute Hillary as President".

None of them really knows what Trump will do to them, but they are all frightened as can be.

claig · 06/05/2016 20:47

claig · 06/05/2016 20:58

All of them listen to every word Trump's insider advisers, such as Roger Stone, say on US talkshows and have read the books that they publish. They are under no illusion of what Trump might do to them and they are petrified.

Roger Stone has said who he thinks the financial backers of the left wing rioters in Chicago were and no one knows for sure what Trump will do to sort things out when he wins. All we do know is that Trump does not mess about.

candykane25 · 06/05/2016 21:13

That sounds like conspiracy theorem from afar.,
Trump gets a lot of bad press here and the quotes we read appear to very offensive.
He seems to contradictory and to say what je thinks each particular audience want to hear. In tne UK we would call him a bullshitter.
But I'm not a US citizen, just curiously observing from afar and slightly worried.

candykane25 · 06/05/2016 21:15
  • there's a couple of missing be's in my above post, not sure why!
claig · 06/05/2016 21:21

'That sounds like conspiracy theorem from afar.,'

Not if you follow what Trump and some of his advisers actually say. That is why the Establishment conservative intelligentsia are all against Trump. This is from the Establishment conservative National Review. They know that Trump represenst a revolutin and a oomplete overthrow of the past and that it is likely that some people may be doing jail time for what they did.

"The party of Lincoln is in ruins. A minority of its primary voters have torched its founders’ legacy by voting for a man who combines old-school Democratic ideology, a bizarre form of hyper-violent isolationism, fringe conspiracy theories, and serial lies"

www.nationalreview.com/article/434952/donald-trump-nomination-conservatives-must-react-how?target=author&tid=1048

The media distorts Trump's image because they are Establishment and protect the Establishment against what Trump will do to them. But yes Trump is a bullshitter to some extent and his grasp on policy is not all that great, but his core direction is clear and that is why the Establishment and world "leaders" are all frightened of what Trump will mean for them.

GingerIvy · 06/05/2016 21:26

Trump is all sound bytes and no substance (other than sexism, racism, and pretty much every other "ism" around Hmm).

I'd be happy to see almost ANYONE as president instead of him, but I actually favoured Clinton anyway, so here's hoping she wins.

claig · 06/05/2016 21:37

Hot off the press, Jeb Bush says he will not vote for Trump in November. I don't think Trump cares one jot. It is all over for the old guard.

candykane25 · 06/05/2016 21:45

Well if he doesn't win, it'll be interesting to see what republicans do next.
He is a more extreme politician and we are seeing that in the UK too with the rise of UKIP and the new leader of our Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn.
There is a reason for that I suppose.

claig · 06/05/2016 21:51

'Well if he doesn't win, it'll be interesting to see what republicans do next. '

A lot of the really senior ones are so frightened of what he will do to them that they are trying to get a third party candidate to stand to challenge him. Trump is their worst nightmare and they will go to extraordinary lengths to try and stop him, but most of the Republican Party will follow Trump because he has nothing against them and of course, he will win.

'There is a reason for that I suppose.'

America is in a bad way. The deficit has doubled under Obama and is set to keep increasing. It can't go on because China and the BRICs countries will eventually want to come off the dollar as they fear they will lose their money. If that happens, then all hell breaks loose across the world. It has to be avoided and Trump will fix it. He will be tough but he will prevent calamity and save America and the world from the chaos and turmoil that would otherwise ensue.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that is why Trump is here now. He has no fear, he challenges the entire Establishment and some of them are terrified of him, but he will solve the crisis and some of them will probably go to jail.

GingerIvy · 06/05/2016 22:03

Get a grip before you hurt yourself. You sound like you're lining him up for sainthood... or to replace God.

The man is a maniac, and if he becomes President, he will embarrass the US on a daily basis.

claig · 06/05/2016 22:07

' he will embarrass the US on a daily basis'

Watch and see. As he says "other countries will respect America more", world "leaders" will apologize for what they said when they thought he had no chance of winning and their grovelling, bowing and scraping will be a sight to behold as they seek to ingratiate themselves with Trump.

Trump is rewriting the rules and the world "leaders" will have no choice but to follow them.

GingerIvy · 06/05/2016 22:28

The word "delusional" comes to mind.

Let me know when you set up the first "church of Trump" so I can avoid it. Hmm
