Chancellor George Osborne will introduce his eighth budget at lunchtime today - he's expected to announce fresh spending cuts of £4bn, as well as a radical shakeup for schools in England, with every school becoming an academy by 2020, effectively ending local authority control. He'll also announce new funds to finance a longer day for secondary schools, with heads able to bid for funds for additional school activities and overtime pay.

Join us here to watch live at 12.30pm - and do let us know what you think of his announcements here on the thread.

'value for money' plus 2nd reference to last Labour Government

Disability budget will still rise by £1bn. Doesn't specify where.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/03/2016 12:50

Will he dare to suggest that we're all in this together?

Cinderbloom · 16/03/2016 12:50

Oh God, I remember IDS and his foul little jig last time.

CamboricumMinor · 16/03/2016 12:51

more money for disabled people, less international aid in 3 years.
Just waiting for tax credit cuts.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 16/03/2016 12:51

If he dies allmybest , i might throw something at my TV! Angry

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 16/03/2016 12:52

Ha, freudian slip. should be "does"

CamboricumMinor · 16/03/2016 12:52

bingo - budget for the next generation. We all believe that don't we?!

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/03/2016 12:52

Why would we believe your forecasts on debt and deficit George? You cannot deliver on these promises.

seasidesally · 16/03/2016 12:53

ha ha,well if claims for uemployment are down he can stop the cuts to disability claimants then, just like he done with TC,as if unemployment is down that means less paying out on JSA,HB etc and more revenue for the Goverment as people will have more money to spend

couldnt be that easy though could it

Cinderbloom · 16/03/2016 12:53

Tax credit cuts will effectively come in next year as part of U.C - as I understand it they have just been postponed.

ThomasRichard · 16/03/2016 12:53

I think I must be exceptionally thick as I haven't seen anythign yet to be angry about. The increase in funding to support disabled people is a good thing, right?

I'm not sure about the cuts to international aid though. Seems a bit stingy.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/03/2016 12:53

I'm watching on the laptop, I'm less likely to throw things at my tether to MN that Grin

coffeeisnectar · 16/03/2016 12:54

Target for debt was missed. However he's now set a new target which will probably also be missed

bimandbam · 16/03/2016 12:55

The school day is to be extended by an hour? Wtf is that all about? Hope they are going to do away with bst then, we get little daylight as it is over winter to do stuff outside after school.

coffeeisnectar · 16/03/2016 12:55

But they have already cut ESA by £30 a week and PIP rates are lower than DLA and it's harder to get. He doesn't specify where that money is going or who will get it. It could be going to SEN schools for all we know. It was a very vague 'look at us and how caring we are' comment that didn't make any promises.

coffeeisnectar · 16/03/2016 12:56

He said it!!

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!!

BINGO!

YakTriangle · 16/03/2016 12:56

Dreading what he's going to say about tax credits.

Toofat2BtheFly · 16/03/2016 12:56

Il be honest .... I'm finding it difficult to hear anything GO is saying ,I'm so full of hatred for DC I cant concentrate on the words coming out of GO gob.

RoseDog · 16/03/2016 12:58

My dds high school has just changed their school week/timetable!

The budget has never affected us as a family ever, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing!

On another note is it Hear Hear or Here Here?

I thought the cuts to tax credits were passed through parliament on Monday night without it being widely reported?

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 16/03/2016 12:59

FFS George I don't care about political points scoring. This is not a fucking game.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 16/03/2016 12:59

Same, toofat, just their mere presence makes me angry, but either way i know in a few hours i will be either livid or terrified, so i might as well watch it.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 16/03/2016 13:01

Hear hear, rose, as in "yeah, i hear you!"
