Chancellor George Osborne will introduce his eighth budget at lunchtime today - he's expected to announce fresh spending cuts of £4bn, as well as a radical shakeup for schools in England, with every school becoming an academy by 2020, effectively ending local authority control. He'll also announce new funds to finance a longer day for secondary schools, with heads able to bid for funds for additional school activities and overtime pay.

Join us here to watch live at 12.30pm - and do let us know what you think of his announcements here on the thread.

A billion more for the disabled? Eh?

coffeeisnectar · 16/03/2016 13:33

Apparently people in their 20's and 30's aren't taking out pensions and aren't saving enough.

Probably because they have no money if they are paying extortionate rent.

ISA limit increased to £20,000

New Lifetime ISA Under 40's only. Every £4,000 you put in the Government will give you £1 a year. This is to be the new pension alternative.

SiencynArsecandle · 16/03/2016 13:34

Yay, increasing the amount I can save in an ISA. Just a pity I barely have enough to live on, let alone save anything. What a fucking cock garage

VertigoNun · 16/03/2016 13:34

So the pension pot is to be used instead of JSA?

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 16/03/2016 13:34

20k isa plus 4k lifetime isa.

I have never earnt £24k

coffeeisnectar · 16/03/2016 13:34

Personal Tax allowance raised to £11,500 from next year.

coffeeisnectar · 16/03/2016 13:36

Higher rate tax threshold to rise to £45,000 in april 2017

wheelofapps · 16/03/2016 13:36

Yy Theresa May.
Don't care what she wears at all - but I do wonder if she is one of the only 3 female MPs who replied to the Salvation Army? The Darlington SA had sent a letter to 191 MP's detailing its concern about some women in poorer Northern areas being reduced to using hankies and newspaper instead of tampons that they cant afford?

'all in it together' my arse.

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 16/03/2016 13:36

Oh fuck off. Working people, working people, long term plan

I honestly would poke him in the eye if i saw him in the street.

RoseDog · 16/03/2016 13:36

Dp and I are in our 30s I'm not sure where the £4000 a year will come from to put in a fancy isa, if we could afford it we would have savings already!

People who live at home save though. My 20 something son lives at home and that savings thing could help him.

coffeeisnectar · 16/03/2016 13:38

Budget finished. Rather odd. Lots of giving away of money. No clue where it's coming from.

I predict a move to cut tax credits or disability payments through the back door while we are all still celebrating our free £1 a year for the £4k ISA.

VertigoNun · 16/03/2016 13:38

I am sure the pension isa will have to be used if you go on JSA as it will be savings.

PixieChops · 16/03/2016 13:38

Well it all sounds fantastic. If you have money that is. I can barely save £10 a month due to extortionate rent prices. What a joke!

BeyondTellsEveryoneRealFacts · 16/03/2016 13:39

Yep, i reckon so too vertigo.

BungoWomble · 16/03/2016 13:39

So basically a contiuation. Tax cut bribes, more money given directly into the private hands of those who can afford to save. Public services somehow have to continue producing more and more with fewer and fewer resources despite them and their staff already being on their last legs.

A reminder, people: tax provides communal resources and communal spending, hence negotiation, power far in excess of what each of us can buy individually. Together we stand. Divided, individual, we fall. With this budget, the fall is coming very soon.

feellikeahugefailure · 16/03/2016 13:40

I agree nun the pension ISA will make many people unable to claim any benefits if they do actaully use it.

Letustryagain · 16/03/2016 13:41

I quite like the sound of the lifetime ISA. Even if you can only save £400 a year, you still get £100 a year from the Government I believe or have I misunderstood? I think it is up to £4k a year to a total of £20k over 5 years.

Oh goodness, that useless bloody JC bloke has got up...

feellikeahugefailure · 16/03/2016 13:41

"unfairness at the core, people that can't afford it are paying for it"

Couldn't agree anymore.

seasidesally · 16/03/2016 13:42

i just lost an hr of my life i will never get back Smile

megletthesecond · 16/03/2016 13:42

coffee you just made me laugh in public at the pig comments Grin. Now the other people in the park think I'm odd.

BungoWomble · 16/03/2016 13:43

The misappropriation of public funds into private hands was strongly implicated in the fall of Rome and Byzantium. And Osborne is supposed to be a history graduate. Obviously not much cop in his own area let alone any others.

seasidesally · 16/03/2016 13:43

did i miss the £4billion welfare budget cut ??

i dont get it

ChemistryHunt · 16/03/2016 13:44

I really don't see how the fires in his budget match up. I certainly will be going over the document later with a fine tooth comb.

I expect we are going to see some pretty ugly hidden cuts under the guise of "reform".
