PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 19:54

lolol

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 19:55

eurgh, that is odd, cod.

I wrap alone.

SherlockLGJ · 03/12/2006 19:58

Ah yes but PPH Milady, you probably have a wrapping room to retire to.

Us mere mortals have to use one of our three receptions rooms, one wraps, one stands guard.

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 20:01

wouldn't that be nice.

I'd just be happy with having scissors, tape (in a dispenser, natch), wrapping paper, tags and a pen in the same place ALL AT THE SAME TIME without having to go on about 5 separate trips to locate/retrieve them.

And WHY do I always buy masses of paper and then about 12 tags (ie about 2000 tags TOO FEW grrrrrrrr)

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 20:11

5 separate trips down all those long draughty corridors with the ermine getting caught on the door knobs

Something tells me Noddy that you do think that there is something wrong with having nice stuff.

noddyholder · 03/12/2006 20:17

Absolutely not.Doesn't everyone think their things are 'nice'?

bettythebauble · 03/12/2006 20:17

Pph- I get the butler to cut pretty pictures from the front of the Smythson cards we are sent. They make darling little gift tags.

milge · 03/12/2006 20:19

PPH - do you not have staff to do your wrapping??

Standards are indeed slipping!

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 20:19

smythson cards do look a rip off are they 100lbs per gramme or something

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 03/12/2006 20:20

Another rip off.

I use a sketchbook as a journal - durable pages.

Buy them in art supply shops much more cheaply than Smythson.

Diary?

I use my mind for that.

northerner · 03/12/2006 20:20

This thread is hilarious. PPH your necklace is beautiful, I'd be showing it off to the world if it were mine. Lucky you

We are by no means poor but I do not have one piece of jewellry worth over £100, but am not at all jealous of folk who do.

It's not like she was flaunting it on a 'I can't afford to by my dd a christmas present' thread is it?

paulaplumpbottom · 03/12/2006 20:20

Yes this is true.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 03/12/2006 20:22

smythson stationery is gawjus, but unfortunately I own NONE

despite the fact that my sister's tres gorgeous and stylish friend (who also makes fab wedding dresses for society ladies - even though he made an exception and did both of ours) is in charge of 'social stationery' at Smythson's in London. He is in his element

I'm telling you, it's porn for us stationery fetishists. Where's Californifrau when you need her?

northerner · 03/12/2006 20:23

Sorry but those cards are for wankers. £55 fucking quid? You must be barking to buy them.

expatinscotland · 03/12/2006 20:23

Crane's is nice stationary and cheaper, but I haven't seen it in the UK.

I have quite a bit of jewellery, as my father likes to give it as gifts.

My mother has a LOT of very nice jewellery.

She's also got antique furs from her mother.

satine · 03/12/2006 20:24

Of course it's all madly expensive and entirely frivolous but I can't help but swoon at the sheer fabulousness of Smythson stuff and I go in to drool whenever I'm in central London. For example - only the Beckhams and Russian oliogarchs would buy those christmas cards, but I bet they are amazing quality. And those lined envelopes would impress the pants off me.

expatinscotland · 03/12/2006 20:26

I've never actually seen Smythson stationary except online.

I'm loyal to Cranes and get regular supplies of it .

I think some of that Filofax stuff is cool-looking, but I can't be arsed w/diaries of any sort. Just another thing to schlep about and worry about losing.

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 20:27

I must say the stationary does nothing for me

and I don't really see the point of lined envelopes

and £55 for 10 xmas cards is a shocking waste of cash which could more usefully be put towards a nice little ring

but I wouldn't behead anyone for buying the stuff if they want to!

northerner · 03/12/2006 20:29

I'd never heard of Smytheson till this thread

Puzzled as to how stationary can be stunning

It's paper, you write on it, then some ponce came along and prettied it up and decided to charge you ridicilous sums and some folk are stupid enough to do so

expatinscotland · 03/12/2006 20:29

PPH, though, can you find a nice little ring for £55?

If so, tell me WHERE!

You can get some charms in Tiffany's for that, I know, but not much.

I have the key fob in the shape of the state of Texas . Special edition.
