THat's the one, zippitippitoes. Yes, I guess they're not exactly the sort of place to buy Smythson stuff.

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 16:50

I do like the way he used words ..thoughI was brought up with him so have a strong feel for him like part of my family sort of absorbed into my imagination

he is very easy to copy though

JackieNoHoHo · 03/12/2006 16:52

The Bulgari Connection by Fay Weldon.

SantasFattymumma · 03/12/2006 16:53

FFS, i can barely afford Elizabeth Duke!

PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 16:53

poo, you can't do links from the bulgari.com site

anyway it is under new collections - parantesi - explore collection - necklaces - no 3

if you can be bothered!

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 16:54

sometimes think I should shed some of this useless info from my brain

it was fay weldon sponsored by Bulgari

she was contracted to mention it 12 times ""The casual reader might pick up the odd clue in the text to the Bulgari link. In a scene set in the Bulgari jewellery store in London, with its dazzling decor, a mogul buys his wife an £18,000 sweetener, "a sleek modern piece, a necklace, stripes of white and yellow gold, but encasing three ancient coins, the mount following the irregular contours of the thin worn bronze".

Bulgari jewellery was contracted to sparkle on at least a dozen occasions, but in fact once Weldon got going - Mr Gordon said "she had a few problems with the tone at the start" - Bulgari became the hub of the plot. Her sponsors, who were delighted with the romping tale of love, lust, covetousness and gold, got at least three times the contracted number of mentions. ""

my god I thought fay weldon was a serious writer!

they must have given her some serious rocks to persuade her to do it

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 16:58

didn't she go off her head when her husnabd lkeft her?

I looked at your necklace...very necklassy

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 03/12/2006 16:59

did she? that would explain it then.

lovely isn't it? ahhhhhhh

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 17:05

very nice

Hope you have a nice chest to show it off on!

I though fay weldon wrote a book called kinflicks but that was actually someone else

OP posts:
JackieNoHoHo · 03/12/2006 17:06

Lisa Alther.

JackieNoHoHo · 03/12/2006 17:06

(how do I know this stuff?)

moondog · 03/12/2006 17:07

Kinflicks is one of the funniest books EVER!!!!
Fay Wheldon is a bore.
She always seems to write in the present continuous which is disconcerting.

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 17:07

I can't remember it but it was all the rage when it came out..so what idid fay write at about nthe same time?

OP posts:
JackieNoHoHo · 03/12/2006 17:09

Kinflicks apparently published in 76, so which of these are you thinking of?

zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 17:13

praxis

can remember the name but not the plot but i think it was similar to kinflicks

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 03/12/2006 17:15

maybe it was the Birghton connection I lived there then

tempting to read them again

NoddyHolder? Overpriced tat for the Boden wearing masses? Because if we own a smythson diary or buy clothes from boden we must be mindless cattle? A tad judgemental don't you think? It just so happens I think Boden's clothes are lovely and A smythsons diary is a lovely thing to own. I was given my first at the age of 16 and its nice to own something of quality.

NorksBride · 03/12/2006 18:16

DH is a Christmas present-buying God. He usually puts a small leather Smythson diary in my stocking, last year he also bought me a big brown calfskin purse. He goes to the store on Bond Street. [note to self: must shag DH more because he's so fab]!

Smythson stationery is gorgeous and the quality excellent but I only buy small A5 notepaper. I certainly wouldn't buy cards at £55, splutter splutter.

NorksBride · 03/12/2006 18:19

And I dress the DCs in Boden too.

Ner ner na ner ner.

SantasFattymumma · 03/12/2006 18:26

i think the money that is charged for some of these items is obscene.

Its not meant as an insult to anyone who does buy it, if you can afford it then by all means spend on what you like. but when one diary is the eqvuivelant of what some families of 4 have to live on for a week....kind of seems ridiculous, no?

no, nobody needs jewellery.

your point?

mousiemousie · 03/12/2006 18:58

am of the opinion that purchasers of Smythson products have lost the plot...materialism gone mad and bad for the soul

surely there are better things to do with money than buy diamonds you are scared to wear and have to keep locked away and which need an £800 box to live in locked up in your safe in turn locked up in your bank/house/fortress...
