they are mean, nasty aggressive. We used to live near a canal and they always went for children or anyone, really. Esp. if they thought you had food. I know they're pretty to look at + good parents, but not nice aniimals at all!

noddyholder · 23/11/2006 21:48

We are all 'just'something but we don't deserve that violent treatment

WideWebWitch · 23/11/2006 21:48

lol at this thread and at Janh wondering about the recipe!

southeastastra · 23/11/2006 21:49

they mate for life, does anyone remember that story where the male swan fell in love with the fibreglass swan boat! it was depressed when they took it away and they had to bring it back to cheer it up.

cyrilsquirrel · 23/11/2006 21:49

ok, maybe people think they are not nice animals.

There are lots of animals that people would not describe as 'nice'

It does not mean they deserve to die terrified at the hands of some sicko imo.

JanH · 23/11/2006 21:51

The whole "hungry because it's second day of Ramadan" is a complete red herring though, isn't it!

Ramadan doesn't sneak up and surprise Muslims, they know it's coming, they make arrangements to have food ready at sunset, they don't rush out with a knife and kill the first animal they find! This bloke has a problem of some kind but what...???

7up · 23/11/2006 21:51

cyrilsquirrel, youve summed up exactly why alexa put the thread on here. the fact is that to kill an animal like that is not nice quite sick

noddyholder · 23/11/2006 22:00

He is using ramadan as an excuse as he knows in the current political climate no one would dare challenge that theory

themoon66 · 23/11/2006 22:01

JanH... LOL at Ramadan sneaking up on people. And don't muslims slaughter a goat at a massive party at the end of Ramadam? How do they kill that? Slit its throat without stunning it I'll be bound... and in front of a baying crowd too!!

flack · 23/11/2006 22:14

The man is obviously unwell. We shouldn't be talking as though anything he said was remotely credible or truly has anything to do with his religion. We shouldn't even be discussing Ramadan in the context of what he did. It's not actually relevant!

I imagine any sane Muslim person reading about his antics is going to think he's bonkers, too.

colditz · 23/11/2006 22:15

It was only a bird. A chicken is only a bird, as is a goose or turkey. I'm surprised he isn't being lauded here for his free range propensities.

flack · 23/11/2006 22:15

Actually, I'm pretty sure that the mentally unwell are excused from fasting during Ramadan, and this type of bizarre behaviour is exactly why.

themoon66 · 23/11/2006 22:25

Psychiatric reports were done for the courts, which found him to be not suffering from any mental illness.

southeastastra · 23/11/2006 22:44

maybe he was under the influence

themoon66 · 23/11/2006 23:08

Well... my muslim friends assure me they do not drink alcohol.. ever, and certainly never touch drugs.

southeastastra · 23/11/2006 23:10

some of them...

alexa1 · 24/11/2006 08:49

Muslims DON'T do booze or drugs.

OP posts:
schneebly · 24/11/2006 09:18

He doesnt look that hungry tbh...

joelallie · 24/11/2006 10:08

I don't think you can describe any animals as 'nice' can you? Or 'violent' either. They just are the way they have to be in order to live their lives.

But I agree that I wouldn't annoy a swan. Apart from anything else they are big and strong and do seem to have a short fuse when there are young about.

tarantula · 24/11/2006 10:14

Well that solves my dilemma on what to have for Christmas anyway......and free as well. we were thinking of the nice plump wood pidgeons that pop into the garden everyday but I'm not too keen on pidgeon TBH. I'll add it to the foraging list ...............sidles off to look up recipies.

MascaraOHaraIncredibleSheHulk · 24/11/2006 10:17

yes the queen can eat swans (don't think that question has been answered yet) and i think it is still an unchanged law(?) that the queen owns the swans.

cowmad · 24/11/2006 10:24

she dosnt OWN the swans per say but protects them

fasting in ramadan...hhmm.. was this at night then?
also..what about the halal method of death for the meat that goes in their mouths?what was he gonna do about that then?I thought they needed a "mullah" or something to say a prayer whilst doing the act? thought that was the whole point of halal?
in fact i thought muslims wernt s`possed to eat meat?

Callisto · 24/11/2006 10:37

The Queen and the Swan Sheriffs or whatever they are called can eat swan.

Tarantula - you can send the pigeons my way, I love pigeon breast, sliced and fried hot so it's still pink and bloody in the middle served on a bed of green leaves. Mmmmmm.

cowmad · 24/11/2006 10:39

pigeon is lovely!!!

cowmad · 24/11/2006 10:39
