Starting a new thread as part 8 is nearly full, here - www.mumsnet.com/Talk/in_the_news/2080468-Oscar-Pistorius-Trial-Part-8

OP posts:

Does anyone know if sentence will be passed today? Will he go straight to jail?

member · 12/09/2014 09:08

I concur with Looking's summing up having had time to think about proving OP's intent. I think she is shutting down grounds for appeal as much as possible i.e cautious but safe verdict.

LookingThroughTheFog · 12/09/2014 09:08

Acquitted on the holding the ammunition. Remember, it is not the Black Talons that are under debate here - it was the 35m, rounds.

Mama - no, no sentence today.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 12/09/2014 09:11

I heard 3-4 weeks before any sentencing and that they can reapply for bail if necessary.

Redcoats · 12/09/2014 09:11

Mama - no sentencing today. Could be another month.
But if found guilty of CH he will have to reapply for bail. Journo on twitter suggested that off judge doesn't allow bail application today then he'll have to go to jail tonight.

IPityThePontipines · 12/09/2014 09:12

Marking my place.

Mama1980 · 12/09/2014 09:14

Thanks all

mumtosome61 · 12/09/2014 09:15

So OP is guilty, as it stands now, only of firing the gun in the restaurant? Murder charges, and other gun charges are acquittal?

(CH to come)

Mama1980 · 12/09/2014 09:15

Does anyone know what sort of sentence the restaurant incident could carry?

Mama1980 · 12/09/2014 09:16

Yep the gun in the restaurant is all he is guilty of so far, the ch charge is being discussed now.

Mama1980 · 12/09/2014 09:17

Judge now saying he acted promptly trying to get medical help, cites the objective nature of the phone records in support of this.

member · 12/09/2014 09:19

Has the Judge actually said he is guilty of culpable homicide?

mumtosome61 · 12/09/2014 09:21

Verdict being read...

MajesticWhine · 12/09/2014 09:21

Guilty of CH

mumtosome61 · 12/09/2014 09:21

Guilty of culpable homicide - not surprising.

scarletforya · 12/09/2014 09:21

Guilty of culpable homicide!

Nerf · 12/09/2014 09:21

Culpable homicide guilty
Fire arm in a car not guilty

Nerf · 12/09/2014 09:22

Tasha - guilty of something
Ammunition storage not guilty

WannaBe · 12/09/2014 09:22

None of this shows the SA justice system in a good light at all.

Whether he intended to kill Reeva is sort of irrelevant here- obviously it is relevant in the scheme of the trial and the punishment which should be given, however anything less than culpable homicide with a jail term sets a huge precedent for blindly firing a gun at whatever you see fit and then claiming fear as the motive.

Op may not have intended to kill Reeva, but I don't believe for a second he didn't intend to kill whoever was on the other side of that door. Just because he may have thought it was an intruder rather than his gf doesn't make shooting someone through a closed door (where they were not in a position to either attack or defend themselves and thus the motive could not have been self defense) any more acceptable.

R4roger · 12/09/2014 09:23

i thought sentencing was today

WannaBe · 12/09/2014 09:23

xposts.

I hope they throw away the key.

scarletforya · 12/09/2014 09:25

Seemingly sentancing could take months.

Redcoats · 12/09/2014 09:25

No sentencing could take another month.

Nerf · 12/09/2014 09:26

Mr fresco could be charged - is that Tasha's ?

WannaBe · 12/09/2014 09:26

during which time he'll probably be doing press interviews and appearing on chat shows.
