Madeleine McCann investigation

I saw today that possible excavations are to start in the resort where MM went missing.

Does anyone think the progress The Met have made is astonishing given the length of time that has elapsed? I can't help but wonder what progress could have been made if they had been involved at the start.

I really hope that somehow they can find out what happened and give her family some sort of closure. I know the ins and outs of what happened and her parents leaving her have been discussed at length on MN but from a crime point of view I would be very interested to see if the Portugese police had done enough or not.

Oh and now if you're supporting the McCanns- you must know them.

That comment shows the level of intelligence common sense we are dealing with here.

I'm off.

TheLateMrsLizCromwell · 11/05/2014 09:07

I assumed that the most likely (as simplest - Ockhams razor) was that a 3 year sold woke up, went looking for her parents - and then something befell her - fell in a open roadworks trench..? However we were repeatedly told this was impossible why? Were the doors locked? If the reason for the parents' insistence that she could not wander were made known this might encourage people to turn to the abduction theory.
Why could she not wander off? Since some were talking about 'normal' behaviour - that is pretty normal for a three-years olds, as witnessed by tragic events every year when they wander into swimming pools etc when parents backs turned for a minute..

Fuckalella · 11/05/2014 09:10

Janey, I agree with you on many points.

70hours, the Mccanns did many things that could be considered as 'not normal' behaviour. I don't understand how anyone can face their 3 year old daughter asking where they were the night before when they were crying, yet still think it's ok to go out and leave them again that night. Their behaviour in the aftermath could also be considered by some as 'not normal'. And the fact that the priest refused any more dealings with them as he had been 'deceived'.

Fuckalella · 11/05/2014 09:11

Massive x-post there!

janey68 · 11/05/2014 09:11

Ok, I'll try to explain in simple words the lack of logic on here.

Several people have said that if we don't believe the abduction theory as fact, then we are implying that the mccanns and their friends had a hand in the disappearance

One theory which has been explored is that MM disturbed a burglary and was killed in the apartment.

This is a simple example of how it's possible that she wasnt abducted but neither were the parents/ friends responsible.

70hours · 11/05/2014 09:15

So what happened to her body ? why not leave it there ? Someome still carried it out right ? So we are still looking for those people - ? I don't get it Jane -

janey68 · 11/05/2014 09:15

The latemrscromwell- KM states in her book that the doors were left UNlocked. (This does of course conflict with the evidence GM first gave -that he entered through the front door and had to use a key...)

ssd · 11/05/2014 09:16

Sabrina "What ssd said on previous threads made this thread look light-hearted."

my first MN stalker, am chuffed Grin

janey68 · 11/05/2014 09:18

Christ 70 hours, you're getting carried away!!
No one is saying the disturbed burglary is FACT. I am pointing out that it is a THEORY, just as abduction is a theory. And yes, a body would have had to be removed from the apartment if it were true. But that's not abduction.

I am simply pointing out (again ) that abduction is one theory; it doesn't make it true, but sadly people who have already decided it is, can't entertain any other possibility

noddyholder · 11/05/2014 09:19

No need for the patronising tone I have no theory but pretty much agree with mrscromwell about simplicity usually the key. I am just closer in my overall thinking to how the Portuguese concluded than any other. This is nothing to do with intelligence I am not going to stoop to insulting others intelligence because they disagree with me. I am educated run my own business and still I cannot get that she was taken in the way that is described

HavannaSlife · 11/05/2014 09:20

I would say that comes under abduction theory janey

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 11/05/2014 09:20

No I don't know them, noddy. Wasn't aware that the word "campaign" was "lingo" either. It's just a word. I just don't understand why people are so eager to believe and repeat the lies and half-truths that surround the case.

People say they haven't won a libel case: "surely it would be front page news if they'd won a libel case" It is documented that they have, I link to the front-page apology, and a report of the High Court case presided over by Justice Eady, and people still don't believe it.

HavannaSlife · 11/05/2014 09:21

And if thats what you believe to be the case why not just say it

janey68 · 11/05/2014 09:22

Havanna- your lack of basic criminal knowledge is a bit scary then

janey68 · 11/05/2014 09:24

And no I didn't say I believe they theory. I've said about 25 times that I don't believe in any particular theory because NONE OF THEM ARE PROVEN.

News flash- some of us don't buy into any theory, we are keeping an open mind until there is proof. Let that blow your mind!

HavannaSlife · 11/05/2014 09:26

Yes janey of course it is, really scary Hmm she was still taken from the apartment in that case, alive or not. You are just being daft now

70hours · 11/05/2014 09:28

I agree with Havaan Janey - one other explanation that you choose to share with us - would still be (IMO) classified as abduction - ?

I think lack of proof of anything else points to abductiion or her wandering off (I still think that could have happened too)

ssd · 11/05/2014 09:28

janey68, your posts make a lot of sense to me, but unfortunately they seem to be confusing to others.....I wouldn't bother trying to explain what you mean, its quite obvious you have an open mind about all this and you've repeatedly said as none of us were there how can we possibly know what happened.

noddyholder · 11/05/2014 09:29

The significance of her having not left the apartment alive means that all these years they have been looking at the wrong theory as the mccanns have been running a fund to find a child living somewhere in the world and now they are back in the town. This in itself shows that there are different scenarios being looked at just as there are here.

LaVolcan · 11/05/2014 09:30

Sabrina - it's not documented anywhere that they have won a libel case, because they haven't. They have won a contempt of court case, details of which can be found on the web and presumably if anyone was so minded they could go and look up the case.

IN THE HIGH COURT OF JUSTICE QUEEN'S BENCH DIVISION Claim No: HQ09D05196

This didn't address the issue of libel.

The only ongoing libel case is against Amiral in Portugal, which is still unresolved.

TheLateMrsLizCromwell · 11/05/2014 09:33

Noddy thanks - I have not read Mrs McCs book, or indeed any book about the case. So - if Mrs Mc says the door was unlocked, why could MM not have wandered out?

noddyholder · 11/05/2014 09:35

The burglary scenario isn't abduction as abduction is a live person. It would be a totally different crime which is what SY said. No one is saying any one version is what happened if anyone knew they would have solved it by now. The fact that 7 yrs on they are still considering different things indicates the complexity which makes it unsurprising that threads like this crop up

noddyholder · 11/05/2014 09:37

She couldn't have wandered out as the windows at he front and shutters were open and too heavy for a child plus patio door shut and curtains drawn and gate outside closed.mand she said Madeleine couldn't have done any of these things

janey68 · 11/05/2014 09:40

Thank you ssd.

I agree, it's a bit difficult trying to have any kind of debate with people who say 'oh well, abduction is the same as murder and removal of a body - in my opinion!!!'

Good grief, I'm not a lawyer or a police officer but I can tell the difference not only in law between those two scenarios, but in the massive differences in how an investigation would proceed for each theory.

70hours · 11/05/2014 09:40

I don't mind other theories being looked at - what I don't believe is any involvement from the McCanns because of where they were, the time frame and how they behaved - So I am happy enough for other theories to be looked at - I just think unnecessary finger pointing st the parents is just that - unnecessary
