Madeleine McCann investigation

I saw today that possible excavations are to start in the resort where MM went missing.

Does anyone think the progress The Met have made is astonishing given the length of time that has elapsed? I can't help but wonder what progress could have been made if they had been involved at the start.

I really hope that somehow they can find out what happened and give her family some sort of closure. I know the ins and outs of what happened and her parents leaving her have been discussed at length on MN but from a crime point of view I would be very interested to see if the Portugese police had done enough or not.

Didn't there used to be a calpol night, it was a bit like medised?

Yy Costa, there have also been dogs trained to smell cancer! Amazing!

Costacoffeeplease · 09/05/2014 22:28

Because as I said near the top of the thread - I'm not getting into specifics - there is a lot of info online but be specific with your google terms and you will find the information more easily - as my teachers used to say, it will mean more to you if you find it yourself - I won't be accused of leading you or spinning the info

Adrian Prout - murdered his wife in gloucestershire November 2007 and was convicted in January 2010 despite her body never being found.

There were no traces of blood, or signs of a struggle, but the cadaver dog (Eddiec- one of the dogs used in the McCann case) indicated to police that a dead body had been in the living room.

Gloucestershire Constabulary drew together a mass of circumstantial evidence that pointed to Prout having strangled his wife with his bare hands and burying her body.

Always protested his innocence and claimed to have been set up.

In 2011 he finally confessed to her murder and her body was eventually found in nearby woodland.

The dog who "smelled cancer" on This Morning was discredited - but I do agree that dogs are amazing things.

The McCanns used calpol - not medised. Medised, I think, is not even on sale any more for small children. I'd never heard of it before MN.

nomorequotes · 09/05/2014 22:31

Unfortunately there are no straight answers. The only straight answer would be what happened to her and nobody knows that.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/05/2014 22:32

Calpol night is not the same as normal calpol

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/05/2014 22:33

Again, MyRed - is evidence that "some other guy did it" evidence that the McCann's did?

Cadaver dogs are useful in investigations are useful, but not infallible. They are not an iron-cast indication of guilt. Don't you think that the McCanns would've just STFU if they were guilty? The case was closed until they campaigned to re-open it.

AnyaKnowIt · 09/05/2014 22:33

No but calpol did their own version called calpol night iirc, it was the same just made by calpol

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/05/2014 22:34

Do you know they used calpol night?

MrMcGintysGoat · 09/05/2014 22:35

Where is the proof that they campaigned to reopen the case Sabrina?

AnyaKnowIt · 09/05/2014 22:35

Then people should be saying that they must be hiding something as they are not out looking?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/05/2014 22:37

By the way, medised not being for sale now is irrelevant anyway.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/05/2014 22:41

Your words sabrina...

If you watch the video you'll see that Almaral believes the McCann's "regularly using" Calpol was something suspicious -he speculated that they used Calpol to make her sleep.

At the time there was a calpol product on the market that helped with sleep. Its not a huge leap to think that is what he meant, is it?

If you watch the video you'll see that Almaral believes the McCann's "regularly using" Calpol was something suspicious -he speculated that they used Calpol to make her sleep. We know different, I think

You brought up calpol, I was just saying that there use to be a calpol night that, as a side affect makes a child sleepy

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/05/2014 22:46

By the way, you said about blood upthread - i didnt say blood, i said dna. Google it, the forensics report is online and showed it was mms dna, but the sample got contaminated so couldnt be used as evidence.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/05/2014 22:47
  1. They successfully sued on a story that suggested they drugged their daughter to sleep.
  1. They campaigned for David Cameron to reopen the case - and he did.
AnyaKnowIt · 09/05/2014 22:47

Its amazing how much mis information there is out there

ExcuseTypos · 09/05/2014 22:48

Calpol Night wasn't released onto the market until Sept 2007. So it wasn't used in this case.

The twins' hair was tested and it was found they hadn't been habitually medicated with calpol, as some suggest.

MrMcGintysGoat · 09/05/2014 22:49

Did they?
So then you will be able to provide an interview where they actually state that.
Or shall I just take it as hearsay on your part?

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/05/2014 22:50

Thank you, excusetypos.

This is like banging your head against a brick wall. There is an awful lot of misinformation out there.

ExcuseTypos · 09/05/2014 22:51

Who are you talking to MrMc?

MrMcGintysGoat · 09/05/2014 22:52

Sabrina, sorry Excusetypos

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/05/2014 22:52

My ds1 has antihistimines at bed time, thats not to say i drug him to sleep, one does not equal the other. It is a side effect of the medication. If i said they gave calpol night (which i didnt, almaral did), that doesnt mean i think they were drugging her up!! Just that its not neccessarily the huge slur on Almaral that you are making it out to be.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/05/2014 22:52

I would imagine they administered calpol just as we do - for teething pain, temperatures and the like. I always take some on holiday with me.

Costacoffeeplease · 09/05/2014 22:53

Excuse the twins hair was tested months after Madeleine disappeared, any traces would have been long gone
