I saw today that possible excavations are to start in the resort where MM went missing.

Does anyone think the progress The Met have made is astonishing given the length of time that has elapsed? I can't help but wonder what progress could have been made if they had been involved at the start.

I really hope that somehow they can find out what happened and give her family some sort of closure. I know the ins and outs of what happened and her parents leaving her have been discussed at length on MN but from a crime point of view I would be very interested to see if the Portugese police had done enough or not.

Me neither, it was extracts from KM's book.

Do you mean not what you believe mrred!?

MrRedAndBlue · 09/05/2014 21:00

it is certainly ISN'T what i believe.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/05/2014 21:00

Copyright? Confused

EffectiveCommunication · 09/05/2014 21:01

Though Mrredandblue's statement she posted may be from a different person to the one KM is referring to in her book.

MrRedAndBlue · 09/05/2014 21:02

to reiterate - i do not believe that Mr and Mrs McCann murdered their daughter and whatever happened I'm sure they wish they could turn back the clock.

TheLateMrsLizCromwell · 09/05/2014 21:03

Having recently read the official files there is no suggestion of murder.

EffectiveCommunication · 09/05/2014 21:04

I think Helen just made a booboo and needs to post something now, to end all the Taggart quotes.

MintChocAddict · 09/05/2014 21:04

Costa
I get that you have strong opinions and believe certain things to be untrue given your close proximity to the scene etc, however what is the point of all the PM me stuff?
It just serves to feed the amateur detectives, when the reality
of the situation is that no-one, unless they were actually there, has a clue what happened that night. Picking over statements online and analysing evidence? Is anyone on here actually qualified to do that?
This whole thread is distasteful (and yes I know I can hide it), but find all the speculation and gossiping just horrible.
Such a sad story. Why can't people just let it be?

AnyaKnowIt · 09/05/2014 21:07

What armchair detectives? Don't think anyone here has claimed to solve the case?

nomorequotes · 09/05/2014 21:08

Because the media and the Mccanns continuously put it in the spotlight?

Why are people not allowed to talk about this news story?

Deux · 09/05/2014 21:08

Good grief, murder? Seriously.

I thought it could only be treated as missing persons in the absence of any evidence.

Foot. Shot.

MintChocAddict · 09/05/2014 21:09

amateur detectives
Scanning the internet for statements and files.
Just don't get the mindset, that's all.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 09/05/2014 21:10

Ask yourselves why the McCanns repeatedly put in the spotlight.

TheLateMrsLizCromwell · 09/05/2014 21:11

I think the reason for Pm is that people have had posts inexplicably deleted, and even been suspended, reasons unknown, for posting on MM threads in the past. PMing is perfectly legitimate MN activity, people do it all the time on many threads - good on Costa for giving up her time to reply to PMs. Nothing sinister. Honi soit qui mal y pense...

MintChocAddict · 09/05/2014 21:14

No-one said you can't talk about it. Yes it's in the news and people are bound to discuss it. I am too, on here.
There's a big difference however between discussing it and obsessively trawling the internet. PMing each other with new facts from websites.
Just don't understand that.

Costacoffeeplease · 09/05/2014 21:14

Well Mint the sheer volume of messages I've received shows that many people are interested in a different view than that available in the UK media

With the current developments in the investigation, which looks like it is stepping up a gear so likely to be in the news for a while to come, it is inevitable that people will look for more information - remind themselves of the background etc

For me, I am tired of hearing about bungling PT plod and am just standing up for my adopted country and its people

Joules68 · 09/05/2014 21:14

Is this HQ person the same one who disabled posting on New Year's Eve?

AnyaKnowIt · 09/05/2014 21:15

Who is pm'ing who with new facts?

Deux · 09/05/2014 21:15

@mintchoc

I'll tell you why i'm on this thread and that is because of the UK press portrayal of the portugese investigation somehow being bungled.

Who did it, what happened I,ve no idea.

On reading this thread, i became aware that all the witness statements etc relating to the case were available online, as per portugese law.

And quite frankly i was shocked by some of what I came across as i had no recollection of any such mention in the UK press.

And yes stuff like the Gaspers' statements were quite shocking to read. Are they relevant? I don't know, no clue but what is known is that they were sat on by the uk police.
