Malay prime minister to hold unscheduled news conference at 2pm our time with 'significant news'.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/03/2014 13:05

Ooh, they've found something I reckon.

FunkyChickensOnTheMove · 24/03/2014 13:07

And theyve called an emergency meeting with the families. Sounds like they might of found it Sad

AnyaKnowIt · 24/03/2014 13:10

let's hope the families are given some answers then

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 13:11

Oh dear, sounds like they have.

I hope for some resolution for those poor people Sad

helzapoppin2 · 24/03/2014 13:18

They're apparently going to take the families to Australia, according to Sky News.

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 13:20

Just heard that - they must have found something concrete

But why take the relatives to Oz unless they've found survivors or bodies that need identifying? Or perhaps think that they're likely to...

JKSLtd · 24/03/2014 13:22

Probably just to feel closer to things. Any wreckage will presumably be brought to Oz first.

BoiledPiss · 24/03/2014 13:23

It does seem odd to 'gather' them, presumabely they are not all in one country?

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 13:24

God how awful, I mean it's not like we didn't know this was the inevitable ending, but I feel really sad thinking that the truth is about to hit those poor people.

BoiledPiss · 24/03/2014 13:24

Yes I suppose that is right JKS, they will bring it there. I wonder if they have found the main plane?

member · 24/03/2014 13:25

The Chief Exec of Malaysian Airlines did say some days ago(when the search started being concentrated off Oz that they would transport famillies there "whatever the famillies want)

helzapoppin2 · 24/03/2014 13:32

So, you think it's a "routine " move, and not necessarily significant?

4forkssake · 24/03/2014 13:38

Sky news reporter said earlier today that one of the Oz pilots had returned & where he's previously said they'd found nothing significant to the reporters, today he didn't speak to them.

They surmised from this that it was because they had found something & they had to inform the Oz PM who in turn would contact the Malaysian PM.

Sounds pretty definite they've located it. Poor people & families. Hope this allows them to get some closure Sad

NickNacks · 24/03/2014 13:41

Now they've found it, and presumably come home for the night, aren't they just going to have to 're-find' it again tomorrow? Or am I missing something?

DowntonTrout · 24/03/2014 13:42

I guess it sounds pretty certain.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely there will be any answers, other than it crashed.

helzapoppin2 · 24/03/2014 13:43

How sad.

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 13:44

I think the spotter planes found something and they were sending ships out to confirm. Perhaps they've recovered something.

difficultpickle · 24/03/2014 13:45

They must have actually recovered something to be holding an emergency press conference. It would be beyond cruel to do this without any definite proof Sad

member · 24/03/2014 13:45

I think it is significant Helz just sceptical that Sky have an exclusive on new news iyswim?

As I understand it, the planes have come in for the night but HMS Success is on the scene.

KenAdams · 24/03/2014 13:45

Oh no Sad. At this stage it really was the only outcome I suppose but it's still very sad.

I think this whole incident has highlighted:
a) how big our little planet actually is
b) major flaws in how we track aircraft
c) the need to fit something that can track an aircraft that can't be removed from inside the airoplane
d) how important it is to put diplomatic issues aside and work together when something like this happens

They can drop marker beacons to mark the spot as well as taking exact coordinates. The nearest ship is nearly there isn't it? Ship tracking people?

Or to could be something they've found out on land?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/03/2014 13:46

I feel incredibly sad, too, even though this has been pretty inevitable.

4forkssake · 24/03/2014 13:47

Nicknacks, I'm assuming they go off the coordinates & alter them slightly so take currents & weather into account. I think they also put buoyant markers down so they know where they found stuff.

I hope the orange coloured things aren't lifeboats which were deployed. It's devastating enough to think the plane crashed but if there were any survivors & they weren't found, it would be unimaginable.

mrstigs · 24/03/2014 13:48

Sounds like they have found something doesn't it. I guess it was the inevitable ending but still very sad. Next will be the hope they find evidence of what happened. I guess that will be a very hard job after all this time. Poor families.
