From BBC : Breaking News

The following SMS message has been sent to relatives: "Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived. As you will hear in the next hour from Malaysia's Prime Minister, we must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean."

:(

Sky news also reporting the same Sad RIP

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 13:50

It's devastating enough to think the plane crashed but if there were any survivors & they weren't found, it would be unimaginable.

Yeah that's what I've been trying not to think about. Tragic enough if everyone on board died instantly. But horrific if some survived the impact to get into lifeboats, but weren't found in time. I really hope that's not the case now.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/03/2014 13:51

I was thinking the same about the lifeboats. Sad

difficultpickle · 24/03/2014 13:51

I hope that they are able to recover the black boxes so at least the families may get some idea of what happened to the plane.

JKSLtd · 24/03/2014 13:54

Agree about the survivors. A pilot once told me that a plane crash on water was pretty unsurvivable and all the pictures on the card of life rafts were just to make passengers feel better. Not sure if that makes me feel better or worse now!

Meglet · 24/03/2014 13:54

Why reasonable doubt? Does that mean they now have proof that they are yet to make public?

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 24/03/2014 13:54

The relatives were told the news by text? Shock

puffinnuffin · 24/03/2014 13:54

Oh no that is awful. Those poor relatives.

DowntonTrout · 24/03/2014 13:55

I really want to believe that everyone perished on board due to hypoxia early on. I still think (hope) that is most likely.

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 13:57

I think the text thing is probably because the relatives are spread among different countries, so not possible to get them all together.

JKSLtd · 24/03/2014 13:58

New info from Inmarsat?
Perhaps not debris then.

DowntonTrout · 24/03/2014 13:58

Inmarsat?

That is unexpected.

4forkssake · 24/03/2014 13:59

Weird. How has this data just come about? Definitely not what I was expecting to hear.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/03/2014 14:00

Oh. Confused

JKSLtd · 24/03/2014 14:01

Odd.

LoopyDoopyDoo · 24/03/2014 14:01

Immersat. How?

DowntonTrout · 24/03/2014 14:01

Experts in the UK. Well, well, well.

Not wreckage then. Yet.

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 14:02

Blimey, not what I was expecting either.

Immarsat have confirmed it went to the S Indian Ocean. That's it.

No news on the debris - although the fact that the Australian search pilot told the press that he couldn't say anything and that the authorities have been briefed suggests they did find something.

helzapoppin2 · 24/03/2014 14:02

It sounds like the satellite data will allow them to pinpoint where the aircraft is more definitely. Unexpected, though, I agree.

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 24/03/2014 14:02

Very sad news :( God bless them.

JillJ72 · 24/03/2014 14:03

That is so sad. I sincerely hope the families get definite proof, and answers, and all those who have dedicated time and resource to assisting with the search.....

MichonnesSamuraiSword · 24/03/2014 14:03

How on earth did it take this long for them to work that out?

Pardon my ignorance on these matters, I'm not being critical, I'm genuinely interested to know why it took so long

BoiledPiss · 24/03/2014 14:04

Yes, no confirmation of the debris, so perhaps what they have found isnt the plane. Obviously they have now concluded that is where it is, just not that what they have found is it.

:(

4forkssake · 24/03/2014 14:04

Seems convenient that they suddenly retrieve this new data as they seem to find debris which could be from the plane in the same location / position. Or is that just my conspiracy head jumping to conclusions?
