Its been discussed on the pprune forum sara, they are more curious about the "roger that" than "goodnight". "Goodnight" apparently isnt by the book, but commonly said. Whereas "roger that" is more like american military speak copied from movies than normal commercial pilot talk.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 19/03/2014 09:27

But surely whatever they say fox news= us daily mail equiv, so anything reported to be taken with a huge pinch of salt?

mileysorearse · 19/03/2014 09:31

I have been reading the PPRuNe thread and pilots on there have said they don't see anything odd about the sign off, but that it depends on a pilot's familiarity with that particular ATC etc.

Can I ask a question about satellites please? What satellite overlaps the area on INMARSATs boundary? Would the plane necessary 'ping' to the distant satellite too, or could it have flown on undetected once it left INMARSAT's coverage?

Meglet · 19/03/2014 09:31

I just don't get this anymore Sad. It's grim when the lesser of two / three evils is that it's at the bottom of the ocean.

sara11272 · 19/03/2014 09:33

Thank you, Beyond, that's interesting too.

I've no idea what to think. (Though clearly I'm not the only one, and thankfully no-one's relying on me to think anything!)

Virtualhaggling · 19/03/2014 09:33

Beyond, "Its been discussed on the pprune forum sara, they are more curious about the "roger that" than "goodnight".

Wasn't it reported the co-pilot said alright good night rather than "roger"?

livingzuid · 19/03/2014 09:34

beyond I think so too. You might as well ask a psychic for information than rely on Fox and the Mail for accuracte and unbiased reporting.

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 09:36

BBC said Thailand saw plane going west.
I bet loads and loads random mystery planes/objects are caught on radar and few ever investigated

some data deleted from the simulator, forensics trying to find it

ChaffinchOfDoom · 19/03/2014 09:39

bbc also said 2 weeks left to find plane before balck box silences Hmm don't they realise it can have longer than 30 days in it? or will they just stop search after 30 days?

firstchoice · 19/03/2014 09:42

"psychic information" re Fox and Mail Grin
bet there are lots of people out there on the net with psychic info not realising they should be columnists for these two 'news' sources Grin

I hope they don't stop looking after 30 days.
I know it will be hugely expensive resource wise to keep looking but those families deserve to know what happened to their loved ones who could, even now, be lost in some deep jungle somewhere

member · 19/03/2014 09:45

On the day that Malaysia announced that they thought the last voice was the co-pilot, they said that the recording was being analysed for stress in speech.

Burmahere · 19/03/2014 09:47

I dunno but 'all right, goodnight' doesn't sound much like code for 'fuck we've been hijacked' to me.

It's slipping down the news bulletins now isn't it. Understandable with nothing new to report Sad.

Just turning onto to BBC news 24 now all looks a bit like desperate reporting of big fat nothing to me.

MsGee · 19/03/2014 09:50

Hi, been lurking but from the Guardian:

"Hishammuddin confirmed that Malaysia has received some new radar data, but would not reveal where it came from.

Thailand said its radar confirmed that the plane took a westerly turn. Hishammudin said the source of the data was sensitive and that it was up to the host country to release it. "

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 19/03/2014 09:51

I think "roger that" may have been the first to last message?

MsGee · 19/03/2014 09:51

Sorry clicked too soon - does this mean that the new radar data is in addition to the Thai radar confirmation?

AGnu · 19/03/2014 09:51

Ha, funny you should mention psychics... DH & I were discussing it at dinner last night when our 2yo piped up "Where's the plane gone?" so I asked him where he thought it was: "In uh jungle. On uh fish." I've been searching for jungle lakes on the arcs! Blush Really scraping the bottom of the barrel now! Grin I had been telling DH about the tomnod images of a plane 'in' the jungle but no-one mentioned fish!

hickorychicken · 19/03/2014 09:51

Anyone watching bbc news, authorities manhandling relatives to stop them speaking to the media Hmm

firstchoice · 19/03/2014 09:55

oh, hickory,
hat's disgusting re the authorities

  • those poor people - what do 'they' want to stop them saying???Angry
MerryMarigold · 19/03/2014 09:56

Press conference a few minutes ago:

Hishammuddin confirmed that Malaysia has received some new radar data, but would not reveal where it came from.

Thailand said its radar confirmed that the plane took a westerly turn. Hishammudin said the source of the data was sensitive and that it was up to the host country to release it.

There is some progress, but we won't know what it is. As long as there is progress.

livingzuid · 19/03/2014 09:56

Firstchoice, I wouldn't have thought they would stop searching, just that the scale will not be as much as it has been. No government wants an unexplained 777 mystery which might have the potential to turn around and massively bite them in the bum would they?

Meglet, that's so true about the lesser evil. Just horrible isn't it :(

Chaffinch, we should direct the BBC here! Actually no, that would be awful, journos all over this thread :) What I've noticed is that there is so much bias in how the facts are put across. That sounds naive of me doesn't it - but I just still find it Shock that some news outlets want to boost ratings at the expense of peoples' misery.

Virtual, can I assume that because it's Piers Morgan writing I can completely ignore that piece of info Grin Saw the articles about Israel and Syria on the BBC so the logical conclusion would be that the heightened alert is to do with that. There was a mention again by a retired American General on Fox talking about it in their usual alarmist way.

I can't bear to look at the news at the moment almost. All the stuff in the Ukraine, this plane, Syria, Oscar Pistorius, Taiwan, does it never end :( Some good news would be nice.

I will try and find all those articles I was talking about. There was another press conference on by Malaysia as I logged on.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 19/03/2014 09:56

Eh, talking of psychics though, I was on holiday at the time (further west, not east) and woke up the night before it was reported utterly convinced a plane had crashed into my resort. that wasnt even under any flight path

(Note, i am unwoo, i do not believe i foresaw anything, just a coincidence)

livingzuid · 19/03/2014 09:57

Oops X post sorry.

livingzuid · 19/03/2014 10:00

Wow relatives storm press conference :( I'm actually crying at those images, it's so awful.

hickorychicken · 19/03/2014 10:00

This is getting weirder and weirder.
