This latest escapee is the fourth in just weeks. Two paedophiles escaped last week from this open prison. What the hell are paedos doing in an open prison???

This happened a few weeks ago, it was on the local news. TBH, but surprised it wasn't here when it "actually" happened.
As a local (living about 30minutes away), it is scary, mainly because we know about it. But like Gobbledigook, how many are there living in the area that we don't know about.

as this is not going to happen maybe we should be seriously looking at why our justice system feels like their crimes are so nondescript that they should go in an open prison.

Physical castration is not necessarily successful because as custardo says implements can still be used and indeed and teatosterone can be supplemented so the offender could be back in the position he was in formerly.

anti androgens like ssris coupled with cbh can be very effective in reducing offending where a proper offense evaluation precedes the treatment and where full consent is given

I think John Reid should be looking very closely at this, but he has said that he won't intervene (ie make money available) although individual prisons/areas can choose to follow this path

basically convicted paedophiles should be placed where they get the maximum intervention into their behaviours

Castration does serve a purpose imo, it decreases the sexual urge and obssesion these people cannot control.. it also decreases sexual drive and so the likelyhood these men will re-offend will fall and if combined with therapy I feel these people could at least in time perhaps recongnize what they have done without their obsession clouding their judgement.

I don't feel this is revenge, it is punishment and protection. rape is about power, pedophilia and sexual sadists are aroused by their crimes,castration removes that impulse and arousal.

Throwing these people in with normal prisoners that we know will hurt or even kill them sounds more like revenge to me!

Rape is about a desire for power. Castrate a rapist and he will find other ways to vent his frustration. I dont know what the solution is but its not castration.
