BBC Link

The appeal after the overturned convictions. I hope this can all be brought to a close now.

The journalist I quoted?

In fairness, as soon as she said that, the presenter of the show she was on did step in sounding a bit horrified and said he wanted to make it clear that the programme's support went unequivocally to Meredith's family and Meredith herself.

and I don't think RS would win Mr Beautiful either tbh

DrankSangriaInThePark · 01/02/2014 13:17

Btw, latest update from lunchtime news, no-one knows where RS is again.

Gone to ground apparently in the north of Italy, despite his lawyer saying he was returning to his home in the south yesterday.

SauceForTheGander · 01/02/2014 13:22

Yes Sangria - i was referring to the journalist who called Meredith Ugly - I'm very relieved to hear she was questioned for that.

Are Italian press discussing how their legal system / police force are being portrayed by AK supporters in the USA?

RS gone again?

Birdsighland · 01/02/2014 13:38

These are the confessions signed by AK before her independent written statement. She maintained she had been with RS all the time. Upon being told RS had said this was incorrect and she had gone out but had told him to lie about it, AK changed her story very quickly (according to the translator) to accuse Patrick Lumumba of killing Meredith.

Until RS dropped his story as her alibi, she had not been a suspect. Upon this information she seemingly became a suspect. These statements them became inadmissible in the trial because the police didn't follow procedure when her status changed to being a suspect.

The independent statement sounds like someone hedging their bets, the last thing you'd want to do is commit yourself to any one version. Lets say, first preference is my first alibi, but if RS really said I asked him to lie about it, then I was there at the crime scene and it was possibly Patrick Lumumba.

I don't know if the Italian courts have translated much (if any) into English and so I believe some translation are reliant on volunteer translators. I think there has been a huge PR job done in English to create a veneer over everything (trouble is most of the facts (sequence of events, evidence and trial transcripts) is in Italian). I think this is why RS isn't really on the radar in the English speaking world. It's really AK's pr that had been very active.

noddyholder · 01/02/2014 14:01

I think if she was in any way involved the arrest of RS could be her downfall now as he may think what the hell if I am going away for years etc

MarvellousMechanicalMouseOrgan · 01/02/2014 14:02

Surely if RS had any info to incriminate AK but not discredit his own telling of events he would have coughed up by now?

noddyholder · 01/02/2014 14:02

I didn't really follow this case at the time and am reading some articles now and am surprised that AK had only known RS 7 days!

ExcuseTypos · 01/02/2014 14:08

I used to think she was innocent, but having read some of the links on here I'm not so sure now.

Why did she lie to the police about Meredith always locking her door- so they didn't try to open it and find her body?

Why was she buying bleach at 7.45 the morning after the murder? A witness said they saw her waiting for the shop to open.

There's lots of other questions, but I'd not heard about those 2 things before.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 01/02/2014 14:20

She maintained she had been with RS all the time. Upon being told RS had said this was incorrect and she had gone out but had told him to lie about it, AK changed her story very quickly

but both their phones were off, for the same length of time?

Birdsighland · 01/02/2014 14:28

Whatever about the phones, RS at first gave her an alibi. He then withdrew it and said this was a lie. He said she had asked him to lie about being with him all the time.

It would be interesting to see his testimony.

SauceForTheGander · 01/02/2014 14:33

Bird - I don't think he ever testified - he had a choice and he refused.

purplebaubles · 01/02/2014 15:06

Hmmm. I was always sure she was innocent, but there is far too much weirdness going on here for her to have had nothing to do with it!

Who the hell notices a bloodied footprint on a bathmat, continues to have a shower and then uses that bathmat to skid along the floor on?!

Why turn up early doors to buy cleaning products but then make out that you were in bed asleep?

I'm not saying she actually did it, but she definitely knows way more than she is letting on, and in my mind, she has pretty much convinced herself now that she is innocent.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 15:21

The witness for the bleach buying was totally discredited. I posted the crime scene footage of the bathroom earlier - there are some small bits of blood if you really really look but it's not like you come home expecting someone to have been murdered. There was nothing in the bathroom that looked THAT alarming at first sight.

SauceForTheGander · 01/02/2014 15:53

He didn't see her buy bleach but was adamant it was AK in the shop at nearly 8am.

There was no mention of finding the cashier working to confirm this or say what AK bought.

nostress · 01/02/2014 15:54

...apart from the clear bloody footprint on the bathmat...

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 01/02/2014 16:24

I read a Guardian report earlier (from 2009) that said the bath mat footprint was not RS's (I assume it was too big to have been AK's)

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 01/02/2014 16:27

RS's 'maid' apparently said there were 2 bottles of bleach in his kitchen that she knew nothing about. Can't remember where I saw that

horsetowater · 01/02/2014 16:39

The initial statement made earlier is clearly in the language of someone who is not fluent in English. The Telegraph says it was 'handwritten' surely not by her?

It sounds like a verbal conversation of a 19 year old american trying to speak her best Italian, then translated into English.

stickysausages · 01/02/2014 16:47

Jeremy kyle could have this sorted out in half an hour...

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 16:49

This is quite a good summary of the "myths" that covers many of the points made.

OP posts:
stickysausages · 01/02/2014 17:36

In the interests of balance... here is the other side of the 'myths'

themurderofmeredithkercher.com/Myths_debunked

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 01/02/2014 18:08

& never the twain shall meet

There must be some truths in both sites...

isn't it definitely true that there was no DNA of RS in MK's room, but loads of RG's?

MajesticWhine · 01/02/2014 18:16

Apart from the bra clasp on which RS dna was found.

PortofinoRevisited · 01/02/2014 18:19

No DNA or other evidence of AK or RS in Meredith's room at all - bar the bra clasp. RS's DNA was not on the bra itself. The "myth debunked" that AK was arrested for doing cartwheels seems particularly stupid, as I don't think anyone ever suggested this to be the case. That info came out a long time after the arrest anyway. The clerk in the store that DIDN'T see AK, was NOT RS's cleaning lady at the time of the murder, but had been once before.

ExcuseTypos · 01/02/2014 18:23

It's impossible to come to any conclusion form those 2 links.

Portisham say there is no mixed blood. It was mixed by forensic police. If that is true, it's damning for the police.

Sticky's link days there are several places where mixed DNA were found. And that the only blood found of Knox's in the bathroom, was mixed with Meridiths. If that is true, that is very damning for Knox.
