Just heard this on BBC News 24.

I hope everybody is ok.
What on earth?!!

Am trying to be rational and logical. Glasgow is a large place. The mobile signal may be down due to over use.

It appears to be a police helicopter.

scaevola · 29/11/2013 23:18

I hope she calls someone soon, Mignonette.

There probably won't be any reliable information for some time, as the emergency services will have far more important things to do than brief the press. The small mercy is that the building has not caught fire.

GinAndIt · 29/11/2013 23:19

Just got hold of dp who is out drinking in Glasgow tonight, thank goodness. Absolutely awful, let's hope the casualties are few and minor.

GoodNeighbour · 29/11/2013 23:19

Yes, thank goodness there's no fire by the looks of it.

I'm not normally a panicker but she's late twenties, not the type to ignore and she'd know her parents would panic. She is doing a PHD.

scaevola · 29/11/2013 23:21

Don't panic yet - mobile networks often fall over after a major incident.

GinAndIt · 29/11/2013 23:21

Mignonette, fingers crossed you hear soon but there are many, many other places she could be and probably having a fab time.

scaevola · 29/11/2013 23:22

And if she's in a pub/club elsewhere, she might not even know there's been an incident yet.

DeepThought · 29/11/2013 23:23

fingers crossed Mignonette x

Mignonette · 29/11/2013 23:23

Thank you all xx I am managing to stay calm. I realise it is highly unlikely that she is affected but sadly many will be and especially heart rending at this time of year.

MsUumellmahaye · 29/11/2013 23:24

was this early evening? i walked down sauchiehall street tonight at 6pm and could hear sirens and a terrible burning smell :(

GoodNeighbour · 29/11/2013 23:25

No, I think it happened in the last half hour or so.

NationMcKinley · 29/11/2013 23:27

No, it's breaking news on sky and bbc news, MsUu

SantanaLopez · 29/11/2013 23:27

We heard the sirens about 15/20 minutes ago.

scottishmummy · 29/11/2013 23:28

Clutha bar,back st Enoch,police helicopter crash,multiple casualties
Services on site,critical incident

Norem · 29/11/2013 23:28

Oh I hope the pilots are ok too, we met some of them recently and they were lovely with the children :(

scotswoman · 29/11/2013 23:28

Def a police helicopter from this picture.

Must be so shocking and scary for those there. Fingers crossed that there's no serious injuries.

MsUumellmahaye · 29/11/2013 23:29

ye just looked it up, don't know what was on fire earlier. what a terrible thing to happen, hope everyones ok.

NationMcKinley · 29/11/2013 23:29

Mignonette keeping everything crossed that your niece is safe and not caught up in all this. It is true though that local mobile networks are often taken offline during major incidents so as not to interfere with the emergency services communications

AgentProvocateur · 29/11/2013 23:29

My DC are both out in town tonight. Don't think they're likely to be there, but desperately trying to get hold of them.

To the earlier poster, there was a fire in sauchiehall st at about 5.30 - round about antipasti.

YuleNeverKnow · 29/11/2013 23:31

MsU - think that may have been a fire in Pitt St in a kebab shop about 5:30. Not connected.

LalyRawr · 29/11/2013 23:31

Got hold of my foster nephew. Much relief. Hope everyone else hears from their loved ones.

Annunziata · 29/11/2013 23:31

DC and DH are all out, can't get them either :(

GoodNeighbour · 29/11/2013 23:32

There must be so many people worried about friends and family out in that area tonight.
Love and strength to every one of you - hope you have good news v soon.

It does look like a police chopper
