well exactly NomdePlume.

But I'm all ' for the paedos ' doncha know?

crazydazy · 25/06/2006 21:48

So would you be comfortable with strangers doing this to your children Donnie? Say this had happened in a park where you go.

crazydazy · 25/06/2006 21:49

I did not say you were all for them just ignorant to them - there is a difference.

donnie · 25/06/2006 21:50

I also go on anti paedo marches and firebomb suspected ' sex beast' houses. Unfortunately I attacked a paediatrician once because I was too thick to tell the difference. Just the prefix was enough for me to be champing at the bit.

southeastastra · 25/06/2006 21:53

the news of the world set the story up - what annoys me is the attitude that people find it fun to be dismissive of people that do read those papers you must feel so superior

charliecat · 25/06/2006 21:55

How do you know they set the story up?

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 25/06/2006 21:55

Southeastastra, you appear to be arguing with yourself.

I give up [eyes to heaven emoticon].

EvesMama · 25/06/2006 21:55

we were at an event at local park last wekend and oldish guy ws walking around with large camera(reporter type, big lense etc) and a family went up to him and asked if he would take a photo of thier children..he didnt say anything..just mumbled and took several pics of young girls..alarm bells for me, but maybe im jumping the gun??..later turns out all official workers that day wore very large id cards round neck(this man didnt)..and in paper few days later asking for parents to call them reg unauthorised taking of pics in park, with his description...made me v.uneasy but as as i experienced it as a child, i do jump the gun..wish id trusted my insticts this time tho

EvesMama · 25/06/2006 21:56

hmm NDP..ive tried too???

crazydazy · 25/06/2006 21:56

I know Nomdeplume but as a parent I do take something like this very seriously and just cannot understand anyone who doesn't thats all be it the NOTW or any paper for that matter.

Maybe I just haven't got half a brain cell.

southeastastra · 25/06/2006 21:57

ffs yourself read charliecats posts

donnie · 25/06/2006 21:57

well yes, I am completely dismissive of the NOTW. It is rabid, hysterical gutter-dwelling sensationalist bilge.

Does that help?

southeastastra · 25/06/2006 21:57

sorry to ndp

fattiemumma · 25/06/2006 21:58

Whilst i agree that these two individuals were doing nothign to harm the children involved and that they were not performoing anything indecent and yes all concerned were fully dressed....i would also say that the mere fact that a person convicted of sexual abuse to a minor/peadophilia should not be allowed anywhere near ANY CHILD! whether fully dressed or not.

woudl you allow your goldfish to swim with pirhana's because they had just been fed? of course not, it is incredibly dangerous.
for thos of you who think this was completly innocent, what exactly do you think the purpose of tis video was? do you honestly beleive they will be takng it home as a momento of their day out??

Surely there is no one on this earth so naive.
Of course this is sensationalism by the NOTW but it all builds public opinion and pubic outrage which will, eventually ho;d enough wait hopefully to bring about a change in the law for perverts like this.

As for the possibility that the picture may have been re touched....the faces of both men can clearly be seen, no oubt they are named within the article ( i haven't seen it) so if the picture had been edited im sure we will hear of a huge libel case as we did when the Mirror printed dud pictures of the iraqi prisoners.

Having lived opposite the sarah Payne memorial park and having spoken to her mother Sara on many occasions i am fully behind sarah's law or any other initiative that allows my child to play freely as we did as children....not having to be kept to certain area's, that after todays pitcures are apparantly no longer safe.!

Anyone who thinks that two convicted peadophiles video taping young children in a park is nothing for a "true journalist" to writte about.....let them babysit your kids!

donnie · 25/06/2006 21:59

If he had a massive camera Evesmama I expect he was a tabloid ' journalist'.

EvesMama · 25/06/2006 22:00

i thought that too Donnie, but this paper(local) was asking for people to come forward reg this man?? am assuming they knew nothing of him officially so want to clear up specualtion or something?

southeastastra · 25/06/2006 22:00

you have to explain modern journalism to people - so great you understand how it works - people still buy it

crazydazy · 25/06/2006 22:01

Exactly Fattiemumma - excellent post.

EvesMama · 25/06/2006 22:01

was nothing like those in NOTW artical, just a long lensed one round his neck.

donnie · 25/06/2006 22:03

yes, and people still buy fags although they know it's bad for them.

Off to bed now to read some juicy sex beast 'stories' and believe them completely.

NomDePlume · 25/06/2006 22:03

CrazyD - Of course you take these things seriously, we all have a degree of worry about paedophillia. No one is suggesting that you are being 'thick' by being concerned about strangers photographing children. I read the story and gave my opinion, as the thread requested (I assume CC wanted to incite a debate about it, rather than just have us answer 'yes' or 'no'). My opinion was that the story was sensationalist drivel. It doesn't mean that I'm not concerned about my children being assaulted by paedophiles, but it does mean that, for me, the risk posed by these men in this particular incident (as reported) seems pretty small and the language used by the reporter is utterly out of whack with the (reported) facts of the story.

Evesmama - I know.

charliecat · 25/06/2006 22:03

Er...what was meant by this?

ffs yourself read charliecats posts

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 25/06/2006 22:06

Anyway, I'm off to bed too. Enjoy your debate. Night all.

EvesMama · 25/06/2006 22:07

night NDP

crazydazy · 25/06/2006 22:09

NDP - yes I totally agree and I know that stories are sensationalised in papers but I think when you are a parent your instinct is to protect so when you read an article like this you do to a degree believe it could be true iyswim?

It was just the Donnie dismisses it purely because of the paper that printed it!!! Things like this just can't be so easily brushed aside.
