But there aren't very many working mums who have never changed a nappy.

gift · 12/05/2006 15:15

I am sure she tried her hand at changing a nappy.

snowleopard · 12/05/2006 15:16

But to never change a nappy suggests you do not really want to relate closely to your kids and be involved in their needs. She is there sometimes, so she could have changed nappies. I agree she needs to work if it's part of her, but the nappy thing has always made me deeply suspicious. i really hop it's not true.

I could not wait to change a nappy because to me that was such a significant part of becoming a mum. I wanted to do that caring thing.

(am I weird?)

gift · 12/05/2006 15:16

Newspapers sometimes make up stories.Wink

Greensleeves · 12/05/2006 15:17

Do you have some kind of inside information, gift? On what grounds are you "sure she tried her hand at changing a nappy"?

dinosaure · 12/05/2006 15:18

I'm on Madge's side too. Have always had a soft spot for her.

gift · 12/05/2006 15:18

I never thought i would be discussing Madonna. And the 'crap' one reads about these people.

snowleopard · 12/05/2006 15:18

Are you her gift?

gift · 12/05/2006 15:20

She is a mum.Of course she changed a nappy.Mum's intuition !

gift · 12/05/2006 15:21

No...My son was a 'gift' to me.

beety · 12/05/2006 15:21

i do. I have worked with her.

Greensleeves · 12/05/2006 15:21

So in essence you agree it's appalling and weird that she's never changed a nappy then Grin

gift · 12/05/2006 15:25

Beety are you an artist?

gift · 12/05/2006 15:26

Did she say she had never changed a nappy ?

beety · 12/05/2006 15:26

i am a director

gift · 12/05/2006 15:27

Yes.Even Daddies change nappies !

beety · 12/05/2006 15:27

I didn't ask her tbh, however, there was no evidence that she did. The kids cam to see her every lunch time with their nanny.

gift · 12/05/2006 15:28

Beety are you a working mum?

crunchie · 12/05/2006 15:30

FFS are you lot seriously saying that changing a c**py nappy makes you a good mother??? WTF.

Do you know something I AM A CRAP MOTHER, do you know why??

I was not there when my DD1 took her first steps Shock I was at work. In fact I didn't know she could walk for about 3 weeks!!!!! She only did it at the child minders.

So am I a crapper mother than Madonna? Or am I forgiven as I did change a nappy and I am not a millionaire??

She is being honest about the struggle that all mothers have between their own needs and those of their children - This is not a working v stay at home thing. I think all mother juggle with their lives, and NOTHING NOTHING should make us feel CRAP about the choices we make. However we are our worst enemies, we are the ones who put ourselves and other women down. We can be so unsupportive is is untrue, and to bitch about Madonna because she says she is an 'artist' is pure nastiness IMHO :)

Greensleeves · 12/05/2006 15:32

No, I'm certainly not saying that changing a crappy nappy makes you a good mother. It takes a lot more than that.

But I would contend that a mother of two children who has NEVER changed a nappy might have her priorities a little confused. IMO.:)

Twiglett · 12/05/2006 15:33

actually she seems pretty normal to me .. when you're with the kids too much you want to be somewhere else, when you're somewhere else you want to be with them .. a sentiment anyone could agree with IMO

beety · 12/05/2006 15:33

phew thank goodness for crunchie...

gift, I work freelance.

She alsways seemed like a great mum to me

crunchie · 12/05/2006 15:34

Oh FFS If I could have paid someone to change all my kids nappies I would have dine. i did have a nanny who did all the potty training poo thing though!! I am a bad mother!

Greensleeves · 12/05/2006 15:39

I'm not prepared to debate your particular circumstances - it's pointless and would clearly lead to ill-feeling. However I stand by my personal view that a mother who does none of the basic physical caring for her child is not "mothering" in any real sense.

gift · 12/05/2006 15:41

We like you crunchie...............
