but madonnas an adult - and moved here as a grown up - my children have U.S. accents - but my husband and I don't , why would we?

crunchie · 12/05/2006 15:59

Greensleeves in your opinion she can only be a good mother if 'she had spent any significant time in sole charge of her children when they were little' Is that your definition of a good mother. To be in sole charge of a child.

In that case there must be loads of women who, by your definition are BAD mothers. Disabled women s=who cannot change a childs nappy, or be in sole charge, are they in the same group?? Or lets be continsious here, BAD fathers. I am sure we ALL know men who have never changed a nappy. Does that one lack of basic care mean they are not fit to be parents??

BTW my personal circumstances have nothing to do with this, but I cannot be alone when I say if I could have paid for someone to change my babies nappies I may well have done so :)

cataloguequeen · 12/05/2006 15:59

Of course she loves her kids...just seems to love her career a little more imo

and I'm sure she's a great mother in her own way but when I saw a clip of her with her daughter it seemed more like a friendship than a parental relationship...but thats just t.v who really knows but her I suppose Smile

beety · 12/05/2006 16:00

my best mate moved to aus two years ago and she has

puff · 12/05/2006 16:02

I love madonna

crunchie · 12/05/2006 16:03

Blimey my dh's brother has IMHO a strong aussie accent, and he moved there as an adult. I find if I spend loads of time with other accents I pick them up. I used to do door to door sales and most people thought I was aussie??? Since I went up at the end of sentances!!

Greensleeves · 12/05/2006 16:04

In response to you, crunchie - yes, IMO a mother who is never in sole charge of her child out of choice (not because of disability) and doesn't change a single nappy because she doesn't want to isn't mothering her child properly. It's my opinion. Clearly it differs from your opinion - I think we've established that now, so we don't need to repeat ourselves again. I doubt either of us are alone in our views on this. And yes, IMO a father who never changes a nappy or takes care of them without the help of another adult is not doing the best job he could do as a father. There are plenty of fathers like this around, I know.

I think that's about it, really. I have washing to do Grin

This nappie thing is bugging me.Where did you read that she said that?

gift · 12/05/2006 16:08

sorry NAPPY....

noddyholder · 12/05/2006 16:11

I quite like her although not as much as I used to as i find these days she does contradict herself over and over.I did however see her on Oprah when she saud she had/would never change a nappy and I think that is weird She probably is a crap mother as she has been saying she is working out 8+ hours a day so when she does any mothering at all is a mystery.

snowleopard · 12/05/2006 16:14

So with you, Greensleeves. It's not so much about it being what makes you a good mother in itself - obviously if you can't change nappies because you're disabled, that doesn't exclude you from being a good mother. And Madonna may be a good mother in various ways. BUT not wanting to change nappies... ever... when you easily could... to me that says something about a parent (and I also include dads in that) - it says they don't really care enough to want to be in there and hands-on and show their kids that they are there to take care of their most basic needs. It implies a distance and a lack of involvement. It is saying "yes I love you - but not THAT much, ugh, keep that poo away from me, that's a job for the help."

This is, also, just my opinion but had to back up the snot-sleeved one.

trice · 12/05/2006 16:15

don't her kids have a dad? maybe he does the nappies. His career should definately take second place to hers (did you see Revolver?).

When I had a nanny I never did nappies. You don't buy a dog and then bark yourself.

gift · 12/05/2006 16:16

Ah.So she said in an interview that she had never changed a nappy.I would like to ask her that question again.

cataloguequeen · 12/05/2006 16:18
Shock
noddyholder · 12/05/2006 16:21

She only had one child at the time but she was pretty adamant that nappy changing wasn't her thing

monkeytrousers · 12/05/2006 16:22

And don't forget she lied to us all saying she fell off a horse when in actuality she had a bloody facelift and just needed an excuse to lie low for a few weeks! Bloody cheek of it coming out to play 12 weeks later with a new face - does she think we're stoopid??

gift · 12/05/2006 16:24

People say things.Bravado i say.She has touched the poop!

gift · 12/05/2006 16:25

Okay where did you read that one....?

apronstrings · 12/05/2006 16:27
