eating refined sugars causes our bodies to produce excessive amounts of a hormone called insulin to manage the level of sugar in our blood. This leads in the short term to cycles in blood sugar, variable moods

expatinscotland · 02/05/2006 12:43

Mine doesn't, crunchie. She doesn't get 'fake' food b/c we hate it, so no fizzy drinks, fruit shoots or anything w/artificial sweetners or crap like that - just tastes raunchy.

But I'm a happy baker who keeps a ready supply of fairy cakes and bars to hand, DH makes ice cream and we all love to make smoothies in the blender.

For a quick pud, I'll slice a banana lengthwise, stuff w/Cadbury buttons and pop under the grill till it goes all melty.

She doesn't get any more hyper after eating these things.

Cappucino · 02/05/2006 12:45

can't wait till Maya gets a party bag full of rubbery worms....

will probably make her pee green or something

expatinscotland · 02/05/2006 12:46

Sometimes, there really is no substitute for Jelly Babies :o.

My dad even loves 'em (don't get them in the States). I send him regular deliveries and always make sure there's a nice supply in their flat when they arrive.

I wonder if, 10 years down the line, JC will still be worrying about Maya's sugar intake?

Or by then will she too be able to laugh bitterly at her own ponciness as she writes a piece on the evils of cannabis and vodka.

Cappucino · 02/05/2006 12:49

I'm sure she'll advocate vodka as a pure spirit rather than the alcopops maya's mates will be chugging. Maya will be down the park at 9pm with homebaked cannabis brownies and a mug of Absolut

oliveoil · 02/05/2006 12:50

I will have you know that we have 2 Pret's, a wagamama, a Subway (barf), a McDee's (mini barf), and numerous sandwich places withing walking distance of my office. And they offer more than sliced white .

Right, will search for some articles containing Danish pasty mirth.

control freak for a mum = repressed child, rebellious teenager!!

Harpsichordcarrier · 02/05/2006 12:54

I am pmsl at "Yummy!" as a title for a book.
"But refined, processed sugar just isn’t necessary in our diet..."
aha so we must only eat what is necessary now.
and I'm with jimjams about the low IQ thing. What a load of toss. Someone give me a link tot he academic research hmm hmm?
the only bad thing about sugar is it makes your teeth rot. OR you could brush your teeth.

FrannyandZooey · 02/05/2006 12:55

Aha he is 3 now

and goes to parties and leaves midget gems on his plate

and asks for "more Medjool dates, please"

[tongue out emoticon]

zippitrippitoes · 02/05/2006 12:56

i suspect though haven't done the research that medjool dates will and fruit juice will make your teeth rot

expatinscotland · 02/05/2006 12:56

The biggest brainiac I know was also once an injectible heroin user who still takes prescribed heroin.

As a teen, he abused drugs, alcohol, tobacco, etc.

He's still far, far more intelligent than JC can probably ever hope to be.

expatinscotland · 02/05/2006 12:57

A little refined sugar isn't going to kill her precious.

wilbur · 02/05/2006 12:59

I am unable to contribute to this thread due to my huge fruit bowl full of creme eggs, jelly beans and chocolate Scooby-doos (maybe they have 70% cocoa in them, wilbur thinks hopefully). I must remember to hide medjool dates in the garden for next year's Easter Egg Hunt.

TinyGang · 02/05/2006 12:59

Oh well done codGrin 10/10 'Medjool dates' indeed!

I think you should have your own bit of mumsnet for these sorts of things. A bit like Private Eye's Pseuds Corner. 'Parps Corner'Grin

oliveoil · 02/05/2006 13:04

dd2 doesn't like sweets and preferred houmous and carrots to dd1's Milky Way yesterday.

That will be £2,000 please Mr Times.

Harpsichordcarrier · 02/05/2006 13:04

ahem franny I think you mean iced gems

tigermoth · 02/05/2006 13:04

lol at Maya being the child of a chocolate snob (as someone else said).

I bet certain of Jane Clark's friends are now plotting how to get Maya her rightful common sweet allowance behind her mother's back.

Agree with Marina and blu on how irritating it is to see jounalists paid good money for writing this stuff.

Definitely a first time mother plugging a book.

OH goodness, just realised if JC has lawyers, I'd be in trouble Blush

Flum · 02/05/2006 13:04

what a meanie. i bet she doesn't make choccie icing just for the hell of it either

apparently some people only make icing when they ahve made a cake.

i say why bother with the cake when you can have icing in a flish flash
