I don't think she is barking actually. I think part of the reason I liked bf-ing is that it was indisputably mine

\link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=1375&threadid=162011\this} thread title made me LOL and think of Lionel Shriver and how she would shudder at it

Pruni · 05/04/2006 22:28

That article described almost word for word how I felt about motherhood at 6m. Gawd I did gush at people.
Lovely though.

handlemecarefully · 05/04/2006 22:41

The article irritated the tits off me Grin

Another polarised perspective imo.

Why caricature it as 'fashionable' to moan about motherhood?

I think she is missing the point. The reason we see articles pointing out some of the stresses and strains of parenting small children is because it's cathartic for many of us to read about this, it's comforting to know that other people struggle sometimes etc - it has nothing to do with 'fashion' and everything to do with reality.

Personally I love being a mum, but equally it's really draining sometimes...

The other thing is - and sorry to invoke the 'parenting hierarchy' - but I can't take a mum of one wee 6 month old too seriously....(oooh, that one is going to come back and bite me on the bum!)

Pruni · 05/04/2006 22:46

Do you think she meant it an a perspective though?
I read it as more "People bang on about how hard it is to pg women/new parents without emphasising the joy etc".
And if you try to say how wonderful it is you look like a loon on E.

handlemecarefully · 05/04/2006 22:47

Umm - I shall re-read Pruni!
