Hi there.

We have no wish to stop discussion of this horrific event but we do have to remind you that we may have to delete speculation about the intentions of the van driver and/or his identity. Please remember that, as yet, no one has been charged.

Thank you, MNHQ.

I reported solidgoldbrass this morning for her really tactless choice of words, quite hurtful to those families if you ask me.

@Afrodizzywonders

I reported solidgoldbrass this morning for her really tactless choice of words, quite hurtful to those families if you ask me.

Hi Afrodizzywonders, we've just responded to your report. Should be in your inbox.

I am Shock at SGB's comment, how utterly vile. Always useful when posters show themselves up for what they truely are.
I have lived in Cardiff for 20 years , what has happened is hideous. A close friend works in A and E , he is traumatised today after what he saw yesterday and he has seen horrible things over the years , but nothing like this.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 20/10/2012 13:11

OH and SGB your comment about "squeally" appeals is vile as well. The A and E in UHW is fantastic and staffed by an amazing team. You know jack shit about major incidents and how they work and what systems kick in at times like this .

spiderlight · 20/10/2012 13:42

My son and his class (Y1) were at one of those sites on a school trip yesterday afternoon. They left very shortly before this happened. I am completely and utterly horrified before it and was totally freaked out yesterday when it came on the news. Way way way too close to home - he was hugged very very tightly at hometime yesterday.

I'm O-neg but I've had transfusions in the past year so they won't want my blood, will they?

spiderlight · 20/10/2012 14:03

Sorry, I don't know where that random 'before it' came from!

MikeLitorisBites · 20/10/2012 14:20

pipin :( I can't imagine what you are going through.

spider I hope your ds is ok, is he aware of what happened yesterday?

Looking at the reports dd2 and I were at leckwith about 35 minutes before him. It's hard to shake the feeling of what if.

Hotcoffeeisamemory · 20/10/2012 14:51

I read solidgoldbrass comments before I left this morning.
I am glad they have been deleted. How vile. I hope you feel ashamed of yourself.

It was too close to my mother for comfort. She's always out and about. She lives in Ely, round the corner from where some happened and she's always down asda (making the most of her free bus pass).

I know on mn there can be arguments, but never ever did I think someone could bring nastiness to a thread like this.

edam · 20/10/2012 16:25

SGB thought she could get on her high horse and sneer at people for getting over-excited by a minor news story. Unfortunately she picked on the wrong one - this really is a serious crime and a tragedy for the people involved. Then when she was challenged, she shifted ground and criticized the NHS for following perfectly routine procedures for coping with a major incident.

Bit embarrassing, really.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 20/10/2012 16:40

It's almost s shame some of her posts were deleted, sometimes it's good when posters demonstrate quite how ignorant they are, and especially when they are too cowardly to bother coming back to apologise.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 20/10/2012 16:46

Oh my god, this is the first I've heard of it :(

Sending my thoughts to all of the families/friends involved.

Pippin - big hugs to both you and your Mum x

flippinada · 20/10/2012 18:41

Edam, perhaps she was feeling somewhat tired and emotional, to borrow a phrase from Private Eye.

I really hope those who were injured make a good recovery. The idea of someone doing this deliberately is just so horrible. The youngest injured is just 23 months old.

edam · 20/10/2012 18:57

23 months? Poor mite. It was awful anyway, but when you actually put an age on the youngest victim...

Maybe SGB was 'tired and emotional', it was all very strange.

flippinada · 20/10/2012 19:26

Three was a last if the victims and their ages on the Guardian website edam. It made for sobering (and upsetting reading).

Most of the victims were women and children :(

flippinada · 20/10/2012 19:27

" there was a list".

lemonmuffin · 20/10/2012 19:41

Poor sgb. Let's give her a break though, I honestly don't think she's well.

I think MN are deleting posts which could be read as speculating on the motives of the person who did this whistling, so maybe that's why.

I think even stuff that's innocently meant could be misinterpreted iyswim.

spiderlight · 20/10/2012 22:42

MikeLitorisBites He's fine - he saw a snippet on the news and was all 'Oooh, look, I was right by there today!' but we've glossed over the details. The class were on a trip to Asda in Leckwith. He was so excited when he came home about how he'd got to knead bread dough at the bakery - he couldn't understand why I kept squidging him.

EdithWeston · 21/10/2012 22:37

BBC article

A man has now been charged with the murder of Karina Menzies, plus 13 charges of attempted murder, plus charges for assault and dangerous driving.

TheDeathAndGlories · 21/10/2012 22:41

Does anyone know how the two who were critical are?

DuelingFanjo · 22/10/2012 00:16

the stuff that's being written on the facebook memorial page for the woman who died is really not showing the community in a good light at the moment.

I live in Cardiff and I think it's an awful thing but find it strange that people who aren't part of the family and friends of the victims have visited the spot where she died. the calls on facebook for him to be hung or turned over to the local community for a battering are really quite distasteful. It's a shame things like this bring out so many stupid views.

Hopefully he will be dealt with by the courts.

MikeLitorisBites · 22/10/2012 07:22

df my fb is full of craps about getting him hung or how disgraceful it is he hasn't been named. I just don't see how any of that can be a comfort to her family.
