Pipin
Sorry I know it's difficult for people/you at the moment but
You say the police rang. I've seen several police say that. Who did they ring, how etc. Not something I've come across before and it sounds good that they could warn people

Snazzyspookyandscary · 19/10/2012 20:48

What kind of fuckwit thinks they have the right to do this? Unbelievable. Has to be charged with multiple murders if people have died.

Guardian report currently says one woman has died and there are serious injuries.

scaevola · 19/10/2012 20:56

BBC report says there has been one fatality and 11 further injured, 7 of them children.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Hotcoffeeisamemory · 19/10/2012 21:44

I wanted to be wrong earlier before it was officially announced that a woman was killed. It had been in my fb for a few hours. My friends dh was at the scene in a professional capacity.

It's just awful.

What an absolute &@/; that man is.

solidgoldbrass · 19/10/2012 22:08

This just sounds wierd. Awful for the people hurt, of course, but if you actually read through the news reports, there's nothing definite about it being a Mass Murderer in the style of Hamilton or Ryan - could just have been a demented drunk who couldn't drive. But there seems to be a fondness for rumour-mongering and monster-hunting when the explanations are usually a lot more straightforward, however unpleasant.

MikeLitorisBites · 19/10/2012 22:16

SGB he was seen by many witnesses specifically aiming for people. He was mowing them down on purpose.

11 people, including a tiny baby in a pram.

what are the chances of this being a drunk driver? demented or not I would doubt very much he could 'accidentally' run over 11 people in at least 3 different locations.

The BBC are saying that one if the injured has been discharged from hospital; the others are being treated (mainly fractures and head injuries) - nod.

The police are treating it as a murder enquiry (that is the offence they announced the man was arrested for), so it is not rumour-mongering to refer to it as such.

MrsRhettButler · 19/10/2012 23:21

Such a sad story :( I don't even know what to say except pray for those involved and their families.

I meant I'm praying btw, not demanding that others do. Sorry felt I needed to explain that.

ThreadWatcher · 19/10/2012 23:24

:( about this
Utterly awful

edam · 19/10/2012 23:41

Good grief. Unbelievable.

scaevola · 19/10/2012 23:45

'nod' sorry 'nfd' (about the condition of the other patients).

Prayers also to the emergency services and all the HCPs who are dealing with this incident.

solidgoldbrass · 19/10/2012 23:48

Cardiff is a fairly big city. Presumably it's got a city-sized hospital. What kind of casualty department can't handle eleven casualties without putting out squeally appeals for help? Don't they usually get several times that many in the course of a Saturday night? Yes, this all sounds like a nasty business but it's hardly hundreds and thousands dying in the streets and the hysteria seems just a little bit OTT.

edam · 19/10/2012 23:51

SGB, are you in a funny mood or something? First you have a pop at everyone reporting the actual news, next you have a go at the NHS... Casualty departments don't generally have to cope with several simultaneous RTAs with major trauma, on top of their normal workload. It's out of the ordinary. But it is an ordinary process for hospitals to divert patients elsewhere when there is a major incident.

Think O- is the one that anyone can have but people who are O- can't have anything else. Would guess that when someone comes in needing blood immediately that's what they use?

O neg is the one that can be given to anyone regardless of what blood type they are. I'm A+ and 2 weeks away from the 6 month postnatal rule but I still tried to ring in case they wanted some, welsh blood service is closed and the Nhs number only deals with England so noone can answer the appeal Hmm.

I would imagine they closed for the short period they did (it's reopened) so all staff could focus on the casualties in the majors area and police could help inform families who had been directed to the hospital in minors. Sensible in my eyes as I've seen A&E at the Heath on a Friday night and it's usually alcohol related injuries and people using their ooh service. There are other ooh in Cardiff and Newport is not far at all. Answer your question sgb or would you be happy to hear a loved one has been killed while a drunk with a bloody nose has a rant about waiting times?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 20/10/2012 00:07

The appeal was from the blood service I think, not ITV.

O- is a rare blood, so I can't entirely blame them for putting out an appeal for more on the back of this.

They may actually need more.

It's not like they're making money out of it.

hugandroll · 20/10/2012 00:08

The appeal is on twitter posted by South Wales police.
